It has been great to see so many movies with a conscience in theaters recently. :)

Haha yes. I love how sisterhood shows us how important it is to set out and enjoy and appreciate our lives while we still can (because life is too short), and I love how Private Ryan shows the very human, humble and fragile side of some very brave, tough and courageous soldiers in the most difficult situations of their lives.

I love it when that happens, Lightning. :) ...when I'm driving down the highway dwelling on the things of the day more than I should, and a song comes on that brings back the best of memories and makes me smile.

Music, lyrically: RUSH, first and foremost. Some Supertramp songs, and the occasional Dream Theater song. They don't edify me spiritually, but they often give me food for thought to meditate on, that helps me grow in some way, shape, or form.

Movies generally have little impact on me. They're really more an a temporary reprieve from reality for me, like reading a book. Sometimes they're the exact opposite, in that a film can be a wake up call (Ex: a documentary).

Fireproof
Facing the Giants
(I think the Kendrick brothers movies keep improving overtime)

Gridiron Gang
The Longest Yard
(I love football movies even though I have no idea what the rules are lol)

Machine Gun Preacher

Lion King
Beauty and the Beast
Aladdin
Monsters Inc
Shrek series
I wouldnt say the above movies have a deliberate undercurrent of thinking (although a lot of feminists bash Disney movies now), but I love em cos their simple and funny and great for when Im grumpy and need some laughter.

Neil sure is a brilliant writer, and I think those guys are more like brilliant composers than rock stars. They're my favorite band too. Neil has always been a great inspiration to me because of his insightful, artistic writing and his whole attitude towards life, how he loves to go to places like deep inside China and Africa where they have never seen a white person before and how he chooses to get around in those places on a bicycle instead of a car and how he doesn't use a camera but only pen and paper to record his experiences. He's also like a perfectionist with his technically complex but musically-sound drum accompaniments to Rush's carefully composed songs. No one else holds a candle to him as far as I'm concerned. Rush will always be my favorite band.

You've somehow managed to list only movies that I haven't seen lol. Not by choice, just never got around to seeing some of them. Except maybe the Longest Yard. I think I saw that one a long time ago, with Burt Reynolds in it and I was a huge football fan back then, but I can't remember if I saw that one. I know I saw Brian's Song. Have you seen that one? Its one of the best movies, and a true story.

Well, I guess I don't need to post some of my favorites, you just did it for me! I LOVE Blindside. I want to see Courageous and the Help, but you're right Jullianna, it's nice to see clean movies coming back into theatres instead of all the filth.

Secondhand Lions is one of my favorites :) I was amazed that it was so under-publicized, kinda like Hachi, the movie (true story) about the dog that made me cry too :D

Secondhand Lions is one of those movies that my family will stop watching anything else and make time for if it comes on tv. :)

Have you heard any of Kari's other stuff? I love the heart of her music, if that makes sense.

I'm a high school choir director, and my girls are singing it for contest this year. The "amen" section at the end can be truly moving.

Also... I really, really want to go rewatch Dead Poet's Society now, but I won't have time until Saturday. I blame you. ;)

It makes PERFECT sense! Kari's heart is wide open when she praises for the whole world to see Jesus in there :) I lead worship too and that's the only way to do it! :)
