think about such things.


The one who diets is cautious about attending a buffet. The smoker avoids the smokeshop. The alcoholic avoids the bars. This is wisdom.

When we know that a sibling in Christ is struggling with certain addictions and we are praying with them, it is difficult to watch them create thread after thread about related topics, especially at a time when they are experiencing victory in that area. In the midst of a spiritual battle, as King Solomon wisely knew, it is the little foxes that spoil the vineyard.

I'm not saying such threads have no merit, but they do have their place and time. When battling a certain thing, it is important to direct our thoughtlife to other matters.

I take comfort and find rest in the fact that there is no higher aim than to be obedient to the will of God.


It is not a thing to push as someone pushes a car or a burden like carrying furniture up stairs but rather it is the ability to let God decide when and where our efforts are to be directed. I believe that when we place His highest as our highest and take on His cares as our cares, the other cares which would distract us fall away in place of what is a great reward. It is a beautiful thing to see the truth living through the life of someone who understands what is truly important in life and cares for nothing else.
 
Your post reminds me of Galatians 5:16 - But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. :) That is the point perzactly!

We have to take our eyes off of what it is that weighs us down and let it GO. There are higher priorities.

The first thing that came to my mind when i read this thread was "temptation" and that we are able to take our thoughts and focus in Christ, then we will have victory in our battles which reminds me that God gave us self-control 2 Timothy 1:7 "for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control." so it can be done with the help of God. I write this because i used to believe before that we could have self control of our bodies or our mouth but that a self control of our thoughts would be impossible, but i believe now that we were designed by God with all the necesary to follow what bible says and not get apart from Him.
 
One cool thing about walking with God is that when we finally get it through our heads what is important and what isn't, and pursue the things that are, the things we wrestled with the most can almost fade away at times, and when we look back, we can feel so silly for allowing them to overtake us.
 
This is what i thought of as soon as i read this thread... I know personally for me, guarding my thoughts is one of the most important things i do day to day. Im very prone to Anxiety and fear. So Satan likes to plant thoughts and lies in my head, and if i dont immediately like it says in 2 Corinthians 10:5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
If im not quick to take action and take my thoughts captive making them obedient to Christ as soon as i get them, I'll take those thoughts and lies and spin out of control with them.

I want to follow it up with this. In Ephesians 6 it talks about the armor of God, and it says in verse 14 Therefore put on the full armor of God so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything to stand. Stand firm!
Galations 5:1 It is for Freedom that christ has set us free, Stand firm then and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

I think sometimes we can take every single thought captive, but they'll still keep on a coming. Thats why surrendering them to God is always very important. Then standing firm and refusing to be moved.

This is especially important when there is an addiction involved, because letting one thought linger in your head could mean total defeat.
