What is a lie?

If I should start picking up peacans. I place the money into a joint account, will the following statement be a lie if I tell other people? "We are in the peacan business". Now remember I am the only one picking up the peacans and doing the work. Lets say the joint account is with my brother. My brother has said many times that he didn't want anything to do with the peacans. I am experiance a sitiuation like this in real life. I got a lot of people mad at me because I stood up for myself.
 
If you are the only one picking pecans, why would you want a joint account?
If it were your husband i could see it being joint,or if you and your brother share your finances

No, that would not be a lie. You are in the business because you are doing the picking, and your brother is in the business because he is helping with the financial side of it by being your financial partner.

let me put it this way. My dad starting picking up peacans. He deposit the money into his and my moms account (joint). Now he is telling everyone that we (meaning the whole family) is in the peacan buiness. Only my dad picks up the peacans and all. Now by him saying we, he is misleading people. Now what is the difference in telling someone that he works with xxxx company without tell them that we (his family works their). His pay goes into the same joint account.
 
I was in banking for many years. Whoever you name on a joint account does not matter unless the account is in the name of a business. I am married and in the "business" of insurance premium auditing from my home. I deposit my payments into a joint account with my wife. That has no relevance to the situation since it is a personal account. However, if I told people that my wife was also in my premium auditing business, that would be a lie since she is not.

I am not sure what you are trying to say, but I would suggest one thing. Unless your brother is actually in business with you, you should not give him access to the money you earn unless you mean to. And if your father is saying that you are in business with him when you are not, you should set the matter straight. There can be liability issues involved even in what we would call a "mom and pop" business.

Not trying to be obnoxious, but what is a peacan? And how do you pick it up? Do you mean "picking pecans and selling them and thereby profiting and afterward placing the money into an account"? Because I don't know what a peacan is or how you acquire this money after you pick one up.

Well, I would call that more of a misinterpretation on his part, than a lie. Lying implies that the person telling it knows full well that its not the truth. In this case he is just misinterpreting the situation. Now, if you guys are all living off of the money that he is making from the pecans, then you guys truly ARE all in the pecan business although you may have to explain to people exactly what that means.

I agree. lol I often use the phrase "running around" and one time used it in a doctor's office. He was like, "What were you doing when you got stabbed in the eye with a stick." And I was like, "Just running around in the woods." And he was like, "Running through the woods?" And I was like, "No, you see, I stood up and then got stabbed in the eye by a stick that was above my head that I didn't see." And then he got mad at me for lying to him. So while what I said wasn't the complete truth I had no intention of deceiving. I just didn't know how specific he wanted me to be, and I use "running around" as a general phrase for any sort of activity in a certain location.

Plus I was stabbed in the eye with a stick. Cut me some slack. :D
