If I am a christian, why do I feel depressed.

I wish life could be easy. God lets us suffer so much and my friend suffers. I thought god was kind. Why?

I wish I could tell u why ne 1 gets depressed, but I cant. As a christian, I know its not Gods will 4 His children 2 b afflicted w/such a thing as depression. As a human, I know how easy it is 2 let the devil work on ur emotions. I've slipped in & out of periods of deep depression since I wuz a teenager. Its easy 2 blame God 4 ur depression, but believe me its not Gods doing! God is the one who gets u through it, just when u think u cant take ne more. Depression doesnt last 4 ever! Gods love and strength does!!! And when u dont have ne strength left, its His strength that is sufficient!

Hey Dedders

Depression is a medical condition, just like diabeties, cancer or swine flu. If you are depressed you should see a doctor or a psychologist.

One thing I've learnt is that just because you're a Christian, it doesn't mean you're going to be happy all the time. Jesus never said it was going to be easy. He said take up your cross and follow me.

I suffered with severe depression for years & I know it's not easy. Keep in prayer & confide in our Lord for comfort, even in your darkest times he is right there with you. I will be praying for you & if you need someone to talk to, i'm here.

I agree. Depression is to be treated. Go see a doctor if you deem necessary.

Thinking of your loved ones and keeping your mind busy helps too. It works for me.

I lost my mom/ bf/ job all in the last 3 months....basically everything that I know....it's tough and I know I'm possibly depressed. But thinking of my family and friends and everyone who has loved and accepted me helps to ease the pain inside.

If you need to talk, feel free to leave me a message too :)

Heh. Good question, man.
Good thing God made the opposite sex, or else my life would be harder than a cactus's thorn.

Depression has its roots in anxiety. What are you anxious about? The Bible says be Anxious for nothing but in all things make your requests known to God.
Cheer up....there are two people who are out to kill you. God and the devil. You pick.

I do agree... depression does have roots in anxiety... you should try and figure out what your anxious about.... then that might help you figure out why your depressed

Hello Dedders,

How I wish life would be easy, too, but the truth of the matter is that it isn't. As humans we face all of kinds of struggles, but God is kind, suffers along with us, and sends others to encourage and support us in our troubles.

I agree with the others who have replied to your post--depression can be brought about by anxiety, but clinical depression is a medical condition and one that can be managed through medication. I have suffered from depression, which caused me to dislike myself and others and made me feel extremely unhappy and often hopeless. Once my physician prescribed the appropriate medication for me, it helped my chemical imbalance and relieved the depression. I am a different person today because of prayer and medical assistance. Whether God heals through miracles or medical science doesn't matter to me, for He created it all.

There isn't much else to add, except a few things from scripture that I'd like to share with you to encourage you:

I call on the LORD in my distress, and he answers me. (Ps. 120:1)

If we were never in distress, we would not need to call on the Lord to help us. The comforting thing is that He is right there with us and answers us. We may not always recognize the answers, though, because we often have preconceived ideas when we pray about what the answer should be. But God's plans are better, and His timing is often different from ours. We must trust and not lose hope in Him.

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. (2 Cor. 4:17)

We can learn and grow through every difficult circumstance we face, if we continue to hold on to God and focus on Him and not on our circumstances.

Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. (Gal. 6:2)

If we never had a burden, we would not need to help each other carry them. God allows life to happen while we are on this earth. But, thanks be to God that He sends brothers and sisters alongside of us to help us through encouragement and prayer.

I will uphold you in prayer, my dear brother.

Depression none other than something the enemy uses against us. You have a solution. The Bible! God gave us His word for a reason not to just read it from time to time..but to use it as a weapon that is why you use the Armor of God - helmet : used to shield us from using satan's knowledge , breastplate- to guard us from the arrows satan points directly at our hearts , shield- to block the darts from coming through, girdle of truth - so that we are equipped by the word, sword- so that we may use God's word defensively , and the sandals of peace - no mattter where we walk we know that God has led our footsteps.

Start taking this into consideration , we suffer because we let ourselves suffer, it's apart of our flesh. But when you grasp the meaning of God's word and use it against Satan, then Satan has no option but to obey you. This is why we are the ones that are in control over principalities and darkness. They fear us because we have God on the inside of us . Know that God lives in you now, meaning that now you have nothing to fear because you have the son of the living God within you.

It's time to break out of fear and depression don't let Satan get you, because once he has you he's got you until you make a change.

I think everyone suffers from depression to a certain extent. I did for about 4 months. It wasn't serious depression, but it was enough that I was miserable. The Bible plainly says that a Christian life will not be an easy one, I do believe the Bible I have uses the words "hard" and "narrow". We as Christians aren't going to have a peachy life just because we are Christians, there are going to be hard times and good times. Someone once told me to Glorify Him in the suffering because the outcome is going to be worth it. We live our lives, suffer some here and there, but when our lives are over, our prize in Heaven is going to be worth it.

there could be several reasons. It can be a sickness, which has to do with your brain. Another reason is that you are bothered by a demon or demon activity. You can rebuke that, you have the authority. I could be sin you refuse to give up that sin. And it also can be just your circumstances, that they are so hard and difficult that it is just too much to cope, or we think its too much. This is a time where God proofs your love to Him, your faith, your trust. Or you have neglected your thinking. I will keep him in perfect peace who`s mind it stayed on Me , says God. Learn to think about whatever is true, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good report, think about these thinks

It is normal i think, and it is very hard if you are in this crisis, because at this moment i feel like there's a void inside my heart, i feel sad, maybe i am near in depression, though i can manage.

Someone told me that, You are not from here in this world, that's why you are having a hard times sometimes, this is a life crisis, sometimes i am thinking too, i am a christian, i shoule not be depressed because God is with me, but then my other side said, it's normal to undergo this crisis at some point in our life to remind us, Who and what we need. As of now i am listening to online sermons.

A Christian has medical/mental conditions just like everyone else. Also, if you're American, keep in mind that that we are one of the most stressed out people in the world, and most of that stress is false stress. What do I mean? Look up the ideology of Anarchism.

Because Americans are filled with false ideals of fulfillment and competition that leave them empty and in want. Also false perceptions of danger. If you don't have a nice house, nice car, and an above-minimum wage job, you're a loser in the game of life. Even if you do have all of those things, you're meeting the basic standards of American superiority and are still kind of a loser in the game of life. This drives Americans into living their entire lives to debtors who at anytime can pull the plug on their financial situation, which they perceive as detrimental and dangerous to their lives. Americans feel that having money is the equivalent to being allowed to live, to eat, to not sleep in the rain or cold...All of which really don't require any money.

Also, if you have an average IQ, no severe mental health problems, or a drug addiction/criminal record, it's incredibly hard to become truly homeless/penniless in America (especially for any extended length of time)

I also believe that Americans are some of the most fragile people in the world in terms of being able to handle traumatic experiences due it's cushiony way of life and culture. I myself am an anarcho-capitalist and try not to recognize the existence of the American government when possible.

I get more negative response from fellow believers than from the rest of the world. All I know is that the more I share my faith and what I am studying for the moment in God's Word and especially the new Youtubes I have been doing, the harder the reaction. I know people will quote what Jesus went through, but that does not seem to lessen the hurt inside of me, the lonliness I get for not fellowshipping with those who would deliberately tear down your faith and diigence in studying God's Word. I also find it so comforting to keep adding to my commentary on 2 Thes 2 one verse at a time, marveling at those new believers and how God has brought them to such faithful witnesses of the gospel message, despite terrible persecution. And when I do meet and speak with someone who is indeed interested in what God has to say in His Word it makes up for all the 'bad' things the world uses to bring me down. You are not alone as far as I am concerned. I am just an email away: [email protected] or goto biblestudymanuals.net

Depression is a medical condition, just like diabetes, cancer or swine flu.
Depression is a mental, psychological, and spiritual condition. It is NOT physiological like diabetes, cancer or the swine flu. Depression is an emotional state. You cannot take pills or a vaccine for this condition, and dependence on drugs will simply make things worse.

God has designed it so that life is easy for the evildoers and difficult for His children. How does one explain that? And Job is an extreme example of what God puts His children through. Job was very negatively affected by all the disasters he experienced. And not one of his friends actually encouraged him. They all pointed their fingers at righteous Job. In the end God vindicated Job.

The issue is how does one overcome depression while facing disaster after disaster? And the only way to overcome it is to simply ignore all the negativity, and focus on what you can actually do within those circumstances. Which means trying to move forward IN SPITE OF everything. Self-pity will not solve any issues, so that should be avoided.
