2. Words that I like to hear are absolutes.

"Always"

"Forever"

"Anywhere"

"Eternally"

These are some spectacular words. XD Good call.

Good word: God . I use the Lord's name often most (that's not like 'just sayin', is it ) , but also I like 'as The Lord leads' oh, that is words isn't it. Well, just sayin'

Bad word: HEED this girls (and guys) , GOOD guys of God will NOT day a thing to you but I can just about guarantee you will be downgraded (and I say to.the point of unmarriageable) IF you say ' oh my God,' and it SOUNDS in vain .

And, there are GOOD places to say 'Oh my God,' but those places WILL be in the bedroom WITH your spouse AFTER you are married . Not judging here am I, I hope, pray not, the Lord leads me, I hope and pray, always, with what I am

saying.

I do not make it a dealbreaker but the warning lights sound in my green brains and I am needing then God to help me see WHY there could be any unvainness in her saying 'OMG' and I also would no doubt explain 'punish' is what God says He woukd do to Israelites for taking His name in vain. That was then, Yes, but God is the same, today, yesterday, and, forevermore.

Well, who, when laughing, actually laughs 'lol' or 'rotfl'. People don't say those letters, unless they make a conscience purposeful effort to in an attempt to be humorous. And seriously, how many people do you ever see actually rolling on the floor laughing who is over the age of 12? I've never seen someones butt come off from laughing, ever. And 'rolfcopter'.. what is that even? So yeah, there are a lot dumber things people say about laughing than 'hehe'.

Bottom line: Do nor judge others of what they say , God did not come to destroy (people) but to save them through Love.

This is heated debate and those are simply words I will NOT like hearing IF I actually really like a girl .
Legalistic? No, not at all, I simply feel that using God's name in any unholy way is not hallowing 'it.' God asks us to hallow His name in gospels' scripture (Lord's prayer), in pentateuch scripture first OT five books MANY TIMES, including God letting us know He is referring to HIMSELF as 'God Almighty.'

Everyone can if they want develop their scape goat (qualifying) reasons to say saying His name in vain because 3rd commandment is different, and, I could too, like what you said, as taking His name in vain could mean saying you are following Him and not really living that kind of life or other reasons. But I still see the fact , regardless of true meaning of the '3rd,' think I will not use God's name except in Him leading my life. The Lord leads.

Bottom line for me is that I want to follow God as best I can and keeping His name holy is one more distinct obedience way how I see to do it for me to best live my life.

And, will saying 'OMG,' etc, words,pm/sayings , vainly keep you from Heaven?

NO! That would be legalism and God operates on grace and mercy, ever since Jesus, His son, our Saviour died on that old, rugged cross The law of OT dead after Christ died, read all about 'the law' in Romans. With your parents being missionaries, catty, I am guessing you know your bible very well so you know of law in Romans and grace (and mercy) spoken by Paul too
Grace and mercy and the peace of God to everyone, brothers and sisters, live to.love one another and what others do.you might not like DO NOT JUDGE, just bring IT to God and pray for them

I saw this which someone posted as a comment to an article about taking the Lord's name in vein...

"The Hebrew translation states that one may not "carry" the Lord's name in vain. This changes the meaning of the Commandment significantly, as it pertains to action rather than words. It is a prohibition against doing evil in the name of the Lord, such as a terrorist shouting "Allahu Akbar" while blowing up in a crowded market or killing an abortionist- thus violating a Commandment in the name of God. This adds weight to all the other Commandments, as any of them can be done "in the name of God" with a callow attempt at justification by saying one was doing it for the Lord."

That makes a lot of sense to me.

I don't know. Regardless of the intention of the person saying it, it still makes me cringe.
I'd much prefer they say "Oh my Fred"...but then Fred might get offended. I wouldn't cringe though.

LOL, nicestguy, but.... true, I guess. I mean, again, we get to legalism but, yeah, say ANYTHING but 'Oh my God,' and it is just going to go over much better with me (and nicest guy), and, I think I could parenthesis quite a few others that feel this way too, ladies
For myself, speaking of me only at this time, I try to not say anything remotely hurting my heart, including 'Oh my gosh,' because it's so close to saying ' Oh my God.' That is, perhaps, just me, but, again, I think a lot of guys will feel this way, that is, good guys wanting to serve God best they can and find a wife who also is wanting this too. Not trying to sound perfectionist either, i FAL often, even having used Lord's name in vain sometimes, EVEN in last year, in last MONTH!, but I try hard not to and ALWAYS ask God for MERCY and forgiveness after having slipped, fell God forgives, He forgets too, praise be to our almighty God !

\Zere, that is, perhaps, correct, 'take' the Lord's name in vain is DIFFERENT than 'use' the Lord's name in vain.

But the point remains, regardless of the third commmandment's TRUE meaning, we should hallow God's name, which means to keep it holy. Not sure how YOU (speaking to everyone here) do it, but do it so that it is hallow and with the right heart.
As I said, God will NOT keep you from Heaven for taking His name in vain, that is legalism to think that, but IF you really love your Saviour who FREED you from sin I would THINK you would want to follow His commands and statutes and EVERYTHING He says in the bible to the best of your ability, and, that 'best,' means with your whole heart

You raised a good point, agian, I say, I went and did a little research last night after how you interpreted 'Thou shalt not take the Lord's name in vain,' and, zere, you, I think were saying similar with your point made above. Either way, I say this: DO err on the side of caution and just because the third commandment does not NECESSARILY say that saying the Lord's name in vain like 'Oh my God,' do still realize that God is to be treated 'hallow,' as the Lord's prayer states and nowhere in scripture do I see anywhere where a curse of God is even allowed God-breathed into scripture in Paul's books, or anyone else's. Do you see any?

Regardless of if you do or not, the bottom line is that just because you think something says something else does not mean you cannot use common sense to realize that something is still NOT to be done. So, even if saying 'Oh My God,' is not right from 10 commandments, do you really want to think you can, or, even, want to go around and just irreverently throw God's name into all your exclamations of things that do NOT show an appreciation of God. Like I said too, the wedding done, the bed is a sacred place of a husband and wife and 'Oh my God,' can indeed be said praisingly, reverently there, I think. The Lord leads I pray I do NOT preach this lightly nor falsely.

God bless you, all, as God does say we will be accountable for our actions but also our words that are used to sway others to our opinions of what we THINK God is. I try always to base my answers on God speaking to me and on what I read in scripture. I have not truly studied God's word for vocation, even though I have studied it a lot, by my own opinon.

So, say YOUR words, good and bad ones, knowing that God will judge you (not me), this is according to scripture.

The next verse 12:37 says more: For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

I agree with you niceguyJ, for me the "omg" isnt a cursing either and i dont think that its bad to say it and its very common, and i agree with you too that what matter is the intention of what you say it. But anyway that expression makes me cringe hahaha

Besides that, i have never related the word "god" in "omg" with taking the name in vain, because i have never thought that the name of God is "God" and Im very surprised because my native language is spanish so i read the bible in spanish and in the bible in spanish say "Jehová" and for example in Genesis 15:2 the bible in spanish say "Lord Jehová" but in the english versions (including NIV and NKJV) say "Lord" or "Lord God".

Another example is in Psalm 68:4 "Sing to God, sing praises to His name;Extol Him who rides on the clouds,By His name YAH,And rejoice before Him." in which is called his name "YAH". which is similar to His name in hebrew.

So, I dont think that omg is taking the name of God in vain until you believe that you are doing it.

I am not saying that 'oh my God' is cursing God, but what I do say there is confusing.
The reason I bring up 'cursing God' is because I do not see in scriptures where in bible anywhere that cursing of God is in there. Job was asked by his wife to 'curse God and die,' but he did not.

I am not sure how else to say all this except that saying 'Oh my God,' is between you and God and again it is legalism to say someone is going to Hell or not going to Heaven or however you want to say it for saying, 'OMG.' No ! God says ONLY 'believing in Him,' is how we get to Heaven. Read John 3:16. It really should be my favorite verse but, anyway, I in awe of all God's created-EVERYTHING in the universe- and, I do indeed TREMBLE at His word. Thus, Isaiah 66: 1-2 mentioned as faves in my profile
