Sorry..had to answer the phone and couldn't finish my post.

If you will notice, I was ASKING why people do this, not passing judgment :) It was a QUESTION. I don't understand...
The 'me, me, me' attitude people have is hard to shake. So it pours over into our prayer life.

Thank you, SpaceCowboy :)

I guess the next question is why do other christians rip us apart for asking questions :) But I don't think I want to know. I think a break from the forums would serve a better purpose in my life. :)

Nooo, don't take too long of a break!

Well, ok, if you really want to. But I will be sad. :(

But I do know what you mean about this... I think part of it is because if we have a friend who can do anything, we're bound to want to exploit that at times, because human nature is so selfish. I have been guilty in the past of only praying when I wanted something. And I realized that I wouldn't do that to my friends, so why would I do that to God?

It also seems easy to just talk when I pray, and forget to listen... again, I don't do that to my friends, so...

Another thing that bothers me is when a lot of pastors pray in church, they say "Lord" every 5 seconds... it just seems unnatural. Maybe it's the pressure of praying in front of so many people.

And come back soon, or else I'll have to start a thread! And I do not like starting threads!!!!! Consider this your warning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn't know you were asking a question. I thought u were saying its wrong to pray without including praise.

Nope. I was just responding to your posts and the questions of others, even though no one was answering mine. In my initial post I simply asked a question about something I didn't understand. I thought we were allowed to do that. Now I know better.

Thanks, popclick. I just think it's time for a break. I have enough stress and drama in my life. :) Hugs <3

Who is "ripping" you apart??? I don't see anyone else doing so, and I certainly am not intending to. As to " Why do some people pray as if they'd just pulled up to a drive-thru speaker?"...I do not think there is any one answer to that. Many different people = many different "reasons". All I wanted to point out is that there may be other times when they are not so "demanding" I just leave it to God.......He knows each of our hearts, at all times.

And taking a break from the forums......well I sure have, maybe I should continue, eh??

Just came across this topic. My thinking is that people pray like that because they have been told they can converse with God through prayer as if He is a close friend. Yes, God is the Maker and He loves us deeply, but as one of my daily devotionals says, don't completely regard Him with such a casual air. Expressing praise in prayer is music to His ears, as well as continuing to give Him our full devotion. Some people might not realize that they are regarding God so casually that it's borderline disrespect, because they are under the impression that the way they regard God is most comfortable for them, so they believe there's no wrong in it.
