To masturbate is about lust and selfishness. What does the bible say about those two concepts? Do we really need to be told that fake sex is bad? Doesn't the bible make it clear that sex is only good and acceptable within the confines of marriage? So how is having sex with yourself while lusting after someone else ok? Masturbation is also only about satisfying our fleshly desires. Again, do we really need it spelled out? Seems to be God did 'just tell us'.

One of the verses that is often cited for why it's a sin, in addition to Jesus's mention of lust in his sermon on the mount, is Genesis 38:6-10.
"Now Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, and her name was Tamar. But Er, Judah’s firstborn, was evil in the sight of the LORD, so the LORD took his life. Then Judah said to Onan, “Go in to your brother’s wife, and perform your duty as a brother-in-law to her, and raise up offspring for your brother.” Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so when he went in to his brother’s wife, he wasted his seed on the ground in order not to give offspring to his brother. 10 But what he did was displeasing in the sight of the LORD; so He took his life also."
According to the Jewish law of the time, if a man died and his wife didn't have any children, the next oldest brother was to marry his wife and have children for him. But Onan failed to carry this out and instead of risking the wife getting pregnant, would let his seed spill on the ground instead of inside his wife. This seems to be related to masturbation.

Yes it is sin. You see, in God's economy you can't have relationship without covenant. It takes two to have a relationship and covenant is basically a commitment where you promise to place the best interests of your relationship partner before you own. God gave mankind sex as a means to reproduce which is only to take place after a covenant has been forged between a man and a woman. Any kind of sexual activity outside of marriage is viewed as a violation of 'covenant' thus it is sin. When you masturbate, it is a sin because it sexual activity outside of covenant.

I've actually heard some teach that masturbation is a form of homosexuality. While I personally don't hold to that view, it is something to think about.

I think that the masturbation issue is rather sad actually. I see it as such as it can be a sin if you overdo it, say watch porn all day long and do not have a life. But eating to much food so that you get fat and sick is also a sin. Not taking care of your body and things like that.
I mean... many things in the old testament are out dated. Noone now days actually think that we should have slavery? Or that if a man dies without children his unmarried brother should marry his wife?

There is no condemnation of slavery, but rather a regulation of it. Paul even tells slaves to be obedient to their masters. He tells masters to be merciful to slaves, for their father in heaven has been merciful to them.
I would agree. That's just a verse I've heard used before. It actually seems to talk more about using contraceptives than pleasuring oneself.

First what you have done is commit an Ad Hominem Logical Fallacy.
You have attempted to discredit a person so that you can justify rejecting any truth in what has been stated. Somehow you think, that my believing what scripture says on the matter of stoning to death and slavery, is somehow something that means I cannot express to you what is true regarding the matter of the sinfulness of masturbation. Classic.
Secondarily, I have not stated my view concerning stoning to death.
1) If God commands something, it is right and true and just.

In Genesis 9:6, God commanded the death penalty.
God also commanded stoning people to death.

Are you saying, that it was wrong for God to command such?
In Leviticus 25, God said the Israelites were allowed to have slaves from foreign nations.
Now, concerning stoning to death, I do not believe we are to do that, because we are under the New Covenant. For the Israelites though, it was lawful. If we were to condemn what God commanded the Israelites to do, then we are in serious error.
As for slavery, it was never done away with in the older covenants, and the New Covenant does not condemn it but rather regulates it just like the older covenants.
Like it or not, that's the situation.

Also, apparently you bypassed reading others posts. Masturbation is about lust and selfishness. What does the NEW TESTAMENT have to say about those two topics? You can't 'dabble' and 'have fun' with lust and selfishness and say that its not sin since its in moderation. Just because you don't like what the bible teaches doesn't give you the right to change or ignore those parts.

Apparently you've never read Romans, chapter 1 in particular.
Just a clue... it's in the New Testament.
Your only argument is that it is written in the Bible and then it is true.
I see the bible as an interesting way to find God (not the only way) but I also realise that it is written a long time ago buy people that by our standards lived in a very primitive clan based society.
Through prayer I have felt the love of Jesus and know that he would not wish us to enslave, stone or kill each other. He is the God of love and mercy.
Lust and selfishness? Eating a well prepared meal? Is that a selfish act. You can have a lustful emotion to that? Drinking wine? Clearly stimulating lust. Selfishness, well I would say that everyone that hordes money and material things around them are selfish more or less.
But still almost everyone (except the extreme monks and nuns) lives that way. And to me masturbation is similiar to a long hot shower after a hard day. Or a nice well cooked meal.
The bible is written long ago. I see it as a map and tool to find God.
I do not belive that everything that is written in it is true (far from it) and you'll have to view it in its historical context.

Ah, i see, she just picks the parts of the bible that supports what she believes and says the rest is dated. Wish the real world worked that way.
The rest of the world DO work that way. It is ever chaning, ever evolving... women and black people have faught for their right to vote, slavery has been abolished etc... it is an ever changing world... and if the Bible would be written in our time it would probably be very different.
And there are many things there that I do not think that even the most devoted christian follow... such as the command that you should not mix wool and linen or that blind and defected people should not be allowed near the altar. Just left overs from an ignorant age.
