Does He? What does the Bible say? Well I consider myself a Chrsitian, and have for many years, and I've never heard an audible voice from God. So does that mean I'm not a Christian? Exodus 33:11 says "Thus the LORD used to speak to Moses face to face just as a man speaks to his friend." This is the kind of talking I want, but alas this is also found in Exodus 33:19 God said to Mosses:"I Myself will make all My goodness pass before you, and will proclaim the name of the LORD before you; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious and I will show compassion on whom I will show compassion." How do you take this? Do you think it's heartless to choose some people and not others to show favor to from God's position? If you do, maybe you should re-evaluate your position. I believe this verse is the reason why I am not spoken to directly by God. I see many Christians saying that God talks to them in hidden, vague ways. This can lead to much confusion, supersition, and many mistakes in life. The simple fact of it is, we don't hear from God, and that's okay. A Christian should recognize their place in existance is so far lower than God's that He is the one who chooses who to talk to. As americans we like a sense of entitlement; that comes from our pride in our rights under a democratic republic. We should be okay with seeing that we're not entitled to God talking to us and that's okay because God is the one in charge.

Now I'm not against the idea that God can't use anything else to give messages. For some people it's as clear as day to them. That's never personally happened to me. I just have beef with people who say to me "You're not listening" when I tell them I'm not hearing anything from God. Simple logic. If it was God's will for me to have a message from Him, then God would succeed in getting the message accross because I know in my heart that I would love to hear from Him. And no one can tell me different, because the Bible says no one knows my heart except me and God.

I too have never heard the audible voice of God. I find myself being skeptical when I hear people say that God has spoken to them (as in hearing his audible voice), and I know that is wrong. I know just because he doesn't speak to me that way, doesn't mean he doesn't speak to others that way, but if what that say that God has said to them doesn't line up with the bible, I ignore it. I do believe God speaks to me through my heart, but that can be somewhat "vague", so I always try to make sure what I feel in my heart lines up with his word. I still truly feel that the best way to hear from God is to read his word.

Actually, I find that the vague things are what, in hindsight, seem to be things that might have been guidance from God.
I say this because I don't belive in chance. I am not saying God removes our freedom of choice, but I say that He always tries to lead us in the right direction.

Honestly, if God literally talked to me I think I'd be to terrified to do anything.

Most of us have experienced this very thing.

Sometimes, God will back up, to see if we're going to follow :)

Don't just sit there crying with your arms held up, waiting to be picked up....move forward.

That's how we really learn to stay in the race.

Don't sit on the sidelines and pout :)

I'm sorry, this is a little rough. I've been in this same place :)

I would be one of those people that believe that God talks to everyone. It depends on where you are at in your walk with Him, whether you realize it or not. God talks to us and guides us through many things. He can use people, His word, giving peace to those that are waiting to hear from Him concerning certain situations, through worship, or even through dreams (for some). I know there are many more ways that the Lord talks with us.

I don't think that we are entitled to hear from Him, but because of HIS grace and love for us, He talks to us and guides us through life. He never leaves us alone, especially if we are seeking Him.

Many times that are recorded in our bible where God speaks to an individual, He sends an angel of the LORD.

Is the angel of the LORD...God? Or is it just as it says? An angel sent to speak on God's behalf?

I have never heard any audible voice coming from the heavens. I do not doubt that God speaks to people, I am just curious as to how He does it audibly. Seems to me like the voice of an all powerful God would shake us to the core and reduce us back to our dusty foundations. lol

I don't think it's wrong to be skeptical of someone who claims to hear from God. I think that's part of being "wise as serpents." People can and will tell you any old thing. I'm frustrated by people who blindly follow something that was told to them as a message from God. "Despise not prophesying, but prove all things."

God doesn't normally speak to people audibly. It's the "still small voice" that he usually speaks with.
He's never really spoken to me audibly, but it's never been much of an issue to me. I've had things pop up in my head, that I knew were not my own (mostly because I'm not that brilliant, to just come up with something like that). I've written letters to God, and when I'm finished, just put down on paper, whatever comes to me, and when I finish, I have a complete letter "from" God (this has actually only happened twice to me).
I've gotten my answer from someone else, just talking. But I haven't, and none of my friends have actually heard Gods voice. I don't think it's a common thing to be done, even among christians.
What we need to realize, is that "Gods voice" can be heard anywhere, anytime, from anyone/ anything. The reason this can happen, is because EVERYTHING that God created, has his spirit in there somewhere, all we have to do is look for it. This is why some people actually can, in a way, talk to plants and animals (which is, by the way, a gift, from God, that soome people are given).

I've never been audibly spoken to before. For me, it's been in the form of thoughts and impressions.

That's exactly what I experience! :) This is why I believe He speaks to me in my own thoughts, and with the same voice I normally hear in my head.

Hmm...if God didn't speak to us, how would we know the truth from a lie? How would we become His? How could we answer when He calls to our hearts? How would we be led by the Holy Spirit?

I believe He has and continues to speak to us in many ways - sometimes audibly, sometimes in that still small voice, but mostly through the Word

Back in the biblical days, God had to speak audibly from the outside, because He did not live on the inside of the bible prophets and characters just yet. The reason He did not live on the inside of them is because these were "pre-Jesus" days. However, after Jesus came, died, and was resurrected, God was then able to come and live on the inside of us. God on the inside of us is called his Holy Spirit..Because the Holy Spirit lives on the inside of all Christians, when God speaks to them, the answer will come FROM THE INSIDE of them. Why? Because that's where He is living now. His Spirit lives in us. Many Christians pray and expect Jesus or God to mysteriously answer them from the outside. They are missing it. Jesus is not going to speak to you audibly. God is not going to speak to you audibly. Instead God speaks to you FROM WITHIN..

When He speaks from the inside, His voice comes to us "as a thought." As a matter of fact, we will think that it's just a random thought that we had, when really it was God's still small voice speaking. It was His Holy Spirit who lives on the inside of us, speaking to us the mind of God concerning our situation or concerning a matter..
Oftentimes God is speaking, but we can't hear him maybe because there is too much noise in our life to hear His still small voice. But in prayer, we speak to God and God speaks back to us also through His written Word..

The story comes to mind of God not being in the wind, nor the fire, nor the earthquake , He was in the whisper :)

Demons speak, Angels speak, our own mind speaks, what matters is being able to discern what is what. I've heard demons and I think angels talk however, I cannot be certain that it was an angel, all I know is that it was very powerful and I was half asleep when it happened... It was nothing like a whisper (demons do that all the time to me), it was more like a trumpet was sounding my whole being. Could of been satan, could have been an angel... don't know for sure though.

For me ,,,,,, God talks to all his kids !!!!!

But do all his kids hear what he is saying ,,,,,we all want more of God ,,,or at least we should do ,,but so many people want God to bless what they want to do ,,,, and it dont work that way ,,,,,,so for me its not about God not talking to his children ,,,,but more to do with do we listen to what he is saying ???? ,,,, and so often we go off in the huff if God doesnt give us what we want ,,,,and so many times what we want now will change anyway ,,,,, what we need to understand is God love us all the same ,,,,,, heres my question ,,,have you ever prayed for something you didnt get ,,,and 2 years later your GLAD you didnt get what you prayed for !!! when God talks its not always ,,,, YES go do that or this
God is building his church and he needs people to do as he wishes and not stomp off in a huff when he says go and do ,,,,,,, that thing he had in his mind when you were first saved ,,,,put your ego aside ,,, and follow God and you will hear him talk to you CLEARLY !!!

This is SO true. I count 3 'voices' in my head.....me, Satan, and the Holy Spirit. It's kind of tricky sometimes to figure out who's talking :)

Sounds rather psychotic I guess, but our minds are where the spiritual battle mainly takes place. Developing good spiritual discernment is a must.

The only real problem I've had isn't in hearing God, it's in feeling him. I've never actually felt him. While ot ers I know have "literally felt his arms around them".
