So, is there any biblical proof that says listening to a song with cuss words, etc is a sin?

I personally listen to almost anything, of course I don't exercise my freedom to much, and I don't let it become a majority thing, but sometimes.. some songs are just catchy, ya know? So, again.. is there any biblical proof?

some examples of songs I listen to:

****edited****

I don't live a bad lifestyle, I just find the music catchy xD lol.

So... ?

God will convict your heart on this (and all the other things kids are asking for Biblical proof for or against). If you feel like you're doing something wrong, you probably are. If God is correcting you, allow yourself to be corrected.

If you believe in the Messiah, and you want to live your life right for Him. You have to ask yourself, could you see Messiah sitting and listening to these songs you're talking about. Honestly? So, since scripture says we are to imitate Him, then that means we get rid of the things in our life we know He wouldn't have anything to do with.

If you cant do something in good conscience then it is a sin to you. Also, Paul said all things are lawful for me but not all things are beneficial.

Great question.
"Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Phill 4:8
Is what you hearing praiseworthy, or pure.

"But the things which proceed out of the mouth come forth out of the heart; and they defile the man." Matt 15:18
Is the curse word something that would show the person who wrote it was defiled? If so, should we listen to it? See verse mentioned above.

Additional scripture to look at:
Matt 15:11-20
Matt 12:34-37 (Especially read verses 36&37)
Psalm 19:13-13
Psalm 119:133

This should get you started. If you don't feel like listening to the song is wrong after reading these scriptures, then you have your answers.

Now, what about books we read or movies and TV shows we watch? Even I have to think about this one.

Well I don't feel convicted about it. I was just wondering about it. I'm not sin conscious, or legalistic.lol

He just said he was not "sin consious," It's probably safe to assume that what God says, doesn't really shake him either.

No one said that except you.

I put the question to you, to give you a new way to consider things that you come to question.

You made this post, and it seems you were questioning yourself for listening to this music.

Otherwise i can not see why you asked.

What do you lose if you do not listen to this music?

Romans 1:32 Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

These artist are promotiong a "bad lifestyle" so it is sin (and trust me, I used to listen to rap and I know most of it is sin, please don't play the fool with God). If you are listening to it, you aprove of it. That's an undeniable fact.

Romans 2:8 But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger.

Don't believe that not actually following their actions and not smoking, having premarital sex, or doing crime, etc. means your not following them. "For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he"(Proverbs 23:7) You think of these songs with approval when you listen to them happily.

1 Corinthians 13:6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

This is self explanitory, but your are delighting in the evil message they are giving and are not showing love to God.

2 Thessalonians 2:12That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

You don't want to be damned do you. That is the key principal of this verse. So I suggest you stop filling your mind with those secular demonic messages. That is, if you really care about whether or not you are sinning and are not just looking for someone to approve your sin. I am not trying to be harsh, but if you know deep down inside you won't repent no matter what we tell you then stop wasting our time. I'm not saying your wasting our time, but if you know you love the music too much to repent, then you are.

(Jeremiah 42)

Like the person said in an earlier post..:

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Guys, step back and take a look at yourselves for a minute. While answering that question earlier, it caused me to think about the books and movies I read and watch, if they would be pleasing to God or not. What about the rest of you? The songs you listen, movies and shows you watch, not to mention books you read? How about the friends we are around. That's a lot of what these verses apply too.

Now, to the OP, just out of curiosity, what caused you to ask this question?

I asked because the simple fact is, they can't give me any biblical verses saying hearing a cuss word is a sin.

and.. friends? Oh 99% of my friends are the worst of sinners. :) I'm not conformed to their way of thinking, but I'm in the world, not of it. ;)

Your right in that hearing a simple curse word is not a sin. If it were, we would all be in grave danger, because, well, 99.99% of the world curses (or at least, it seems that way.)

Now I posed another question, and part of that was because, we are influenced by the things we watch, read, hear, and the people we hang out with. And yes, we can influence our friends as well. And this goes with your original question as well. If the song is one where you are being exposed heavily to Worldy influences, such as lust, allowing your anger to rule you (and yes, despite what people think, it really can influence us) then maybe you shouldn't listen to it. However, if it's innocent of that type of stuff, and just makes one remark, well, that is something you have to consider on another level. Either way, this is all between you and God. Only you can determine what God is telling you. We can give you advice and point you to scripture that will help you answer these questions, but we can't tell you what God is telling you.

some people just simply have a stronger faith, and can watch certain movies, etc and it not phase them.

now if I was to listen to stuff like Lady Gaga, and stuff, it'd pull me down, but there's rap I listen to, that just never phases me. Most people would be shocked and be like *BUT YOU'RE A PASTOR* lol..
I call it bubblegum music :D

It's not always a matter of having stronger faith. It can also be turning a blind eye to sin and making compromises in your life without even noticing.

Being 'sin-conscious' can be a good thing. Keeps us on the straight and narrow.

Paul mentions something about what you said above. I believe it was specifically dealing with food that was given to idols. Paul said that there was nothing wrong with eating the food itself, because it simply was food. However, those who were weaker in their faith, could trip because of watching you. So again, you need to be careful of what you do, say, or watch, especially in the presence of others. "But beware lest somehow this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to those who are weak." 1 Cor 8:9-11
