I want to do something special for my mom on mother's day, yet I don't have many ideas on what to do.

I was thinking about getting her at least a card, maybe cleaning the house a bit, I dunno. She does a lot, and I don't do much... Do you guys have any ideas on what I could do for her?

If there's a job that she normally doesn't like to do, like maybe washing the car, I would zero in on that. If you take her likes/dislikes into consideration when you pick something to do for her, it will be twice as nice. And if you feel up to it, maybe you could make something cool for dinner?
 
Probably anything you do for her would be appreciated.

Personally, I like to go out to eat somewhere special. Though she might REALLY appreciate some house cleaning :)

Flowers are nice too; you don't have to spend a lot of money on roses...Walmart has some very nice bouquets that aren't real expensive.

I feel guilty if my family buys me expensive flowers that only last a short time.
 
I think mom's like to know that you're paying attention to what's important to them. Ladies, in general, like that stuff.

My rule of thumb for Mother's Day while I was living at home was to eliminate all reason to nag or get upset. Cleaning the house was #1. Not fighting or arguing with my siblings was #2. Not talking back was #3. Just like being the good, happy kid she wanted me to be.

Second to that was attempting to make her cry in the good way. A card with a really personal note of appreciation, her favorite flowers, her favorite meal (or preparing something she taught you how to make to prove you learned from her), etc. Something that reeeaaally gets those water works going.

Very good advice. I think we all tend to get caught up in our own lives and forget to do the little things that show people that we love them. And the very first thing is to tell them ... often.

And, I don't believe that it is always the big things that get somebody's attention, especially mothers. It is the little things that so often go unsaid and undone.

A quiet "I love you and appreciate everything you do, mom" will probably go as far as any gift you could come up with, if it is offered sincerely from your heart. And, come to think of it, shouldn't we all say that to our mothers every day?

Think of the most romantic thing that you would like a guy to do for you then do it for your mom, like buy rose petals at the store and have a trail leading the a bath with candles. i know its a little awkward but in my family my dad would NEVER do it so she'd REALLY appericiate it. and maybe cook dinnier instead of just taking her out to show that you put in some real effort to make her happy then just spending money on her. ^_^
 
I'm not a real mom, but I know how they think, and I agree with rainacorn's comment about doing/saying something that will really touch her heart <3. A card is good, but if you feel like you can really pour your heart out in a letter thanking her for everything she does (moms tend to feel unappreciated, so the expression of gratitude really moves them), and perhaps telling her how much you love her and appreciate her, then that would DEFINITELY get my vote. Moms LOVE that stuff, and from what I gather from other things you've posted, she's probably had a rough time, emotionally, over the past few years :(. Letters are always nice, because she can read it again later, when she's feeling low.

You might want to get her a little something, as well, but I'll almost guarantee that a heartfelt letter will mean more to her than anything money could buy :).
 
well here what I have done before apart form her card and taking her out too eat you can instead make dinner or meals all day for her clean house do her day as easy my mother is lucky she has mothers day then on the 23 her b day lol so she gets double pampering in month :) anyways what I have done is make her a stapled booky wiht pages each page is a coupon good for something something you know you can do like whatever coupon she gives you is like something u have too do for her like mine usually has the on strike for today means ill do everything lol... or the dinner today or sleeep in :) do all laundery ha ha .. or anything basically anything you know she loves not doing or wants a break washing car vaccuming car cleaning out vacuuum going too a place she lives with her you normally dont like going :) I have bought her jewelry before but her job dont let her wear stuff like that lol sooo i rather do something she well use :)

show her ho to use computer fullly like turnon laptop and use it what parent doesnt want too know I think my mom well love knowing this :) even dad :)

make it nice and clear every coupon and like i put usable 2 times or 1 or diff :)
 
Not sure when Mothers Day is in US this year, but I would give your Mum a day when, literally, she doesn't have to lift a finger for herself
This means starting the day with breakfast & a big bunch of flowers before (I hope) Church.
Make the service late enough to go for lunch somewhere immediately after.
Then head to the cinema to see a film of her choosing when she can let lunch settle on her tummy.
After the film it should be time for a light afternoon tea, after which it should be time for the theatre/ballet/etc. where you have already booked tickets.
Having enjoyed the performance it should be time for as "tapas"-like supper & drinks before settling Mum safely into bed at home.
Oh yes- & don't forget the card!!
This will be a hassle-free task as all of this can be easily arranged via. 'phone or computer.

Back in Ireland & when 'The Mammy' was still with us, after Church & in the village pub, my mistake was always telling the landlord it was her Mothers Day present. The challenge was getting her out of the pub!!

Well, as a mom, I would have to say for you to zero in on her complaints. Be creative and thoughtful and ease her complaints. If she complains about the shoes by the door, take care of them for the whole week. If she complains about preparing dinner, take on cooking. If she complains about the laundry, do it all and take care of it. Doing the things she complains of, before she is able to complain, will be the best Mother's day gift. We just want to know we are heard and respected.

If you haven't taken the five love languages quiz, you should and have your mom do the same. The quiz will reveal what love languages make you and your mom feel loved the most. You could perform whatever action would be necessary to meet the language need. You can take the quiz on, The 5 Love Languages.com, I think that is it, google it.

I'm sure whatever you choose to do your mom will appreciate your effort!

I plan to plan this week and then execute the planned plan next week. I hope all goes well :P
 
Mother's Day is a celebration honoring mothers and celebrating motherhood, maternal bonds and the influence of mothers in society.
 
P.S. If you DO write her a letter, then be sure to leave it for her to find somewhere she can read it in private, so she can have a good cry without people watching ;).

Also.....mention a few things about her that you admire, like perseverance, or inner strength, or kindness :)
 
Just give her a big hug and a nice kiss. And don't forget to say-that she means a lot to you :) :)

As a mom to grown kiddos, I'm always just so happy to know they're thinking of me. Try not to put too much pressure on yourself to have things "perfect". Or to do absolutely everything. As mothers, we rarely enjoy seeing our kids stressed. <3

You are a wonderful "child". And I don't want to add to your list, but I think most moms would love to hear one memory of a time she made a difference in your life in a positive way. Like that time you had strep throat and she brought you ice cold apple juice...you get the idea.

So it went like this:

After church, my mom's boyfriend brought me to the store to get some flowers. My mom just thought we were hanging out (and we were, after all). We tried looking for a purple rose, but settled on some red roses. When we got home, he had an idea: he told me to gather some dandelions and other stuff from our yard! I went inside holding the bouquet of hand picked flowers behind my back and he held the roses. I told her what we actually did and she was surprised alright :) Then I gave her the roses.

She kept both bouquets :D

My mom really seemed happy. It seemed like she didn't want much at all (in fact, she told me she didn't want anything. She does every year, actually).

Thank you all again for the ideas. I really appreciate what you guys did for me :)

My favorate is always when my family cleans the house for me, because it gives me a week to do the things I love to do but rarely have the time to. :)
This year again, the house was cleaned, so I worked in my garden, which is a joy.
I also love to get rocks, I know rocks seem weird, but Im making a rock garden, so for me, rocks are like flowers! :)
My daughter gave me a wheel barrow full, yay!

I like what you did for your mom, for the best flowers over the years, were the dandlion bouquets given with their small hands and were the most beautiful! :):):)

I kind of understand the rock thing; for a while when I was little I gave my grandmother a different rock every year for her birthday :)
