Im curious to know how everyone feels about it.

Are there any married couples who have issues with using/or their spouse using facebook?
How do you feel about your teens and facebook?
Has the use of facebook been an aid in ruining anyones lives/marriages?
Curious to hear the general views on it?

At one time I had facebook, but I decided to get rid of it. I think it was a great way to communicate with a group of people, especially while I was in school. I also think it can be a good too to use in helping some people, but for me those weren't good enough reasons to keep it.

I didn't like and I found that....
1. I would get friend requests from people that I may know of (went to school with), but don't even talk to when in a large gathering. What's the point of befriending someone if you don't talk with them outside of facebook?

2. The game notices and constant news feed of people got annoying. (Especially from those that use it to announce every event of their day as it's happening or to let us know how they are feeling every half hour.)

3. I don't really want to know about others lives, UNLESS they themselves tell me.

4. I'm a private person, I don't feel the need to share a bunch of stuff with a group of people, even those that are friends and family. I prefer to share that on a more personal level.

And finally, it seems as though a second or new side of people come out online and I don't care for that.

As far as teenagers using it, I think as young teens internet time should be monitored and watched by an adult. I have 10 year old students that have facebook and I don't think it's wise to allow that young of children to have an account. I think that if married couples want facebook, it's best that they share an account. It's the easiest way to avoid any curiosity, hurt, anger, jealousy and lots of other things that facebook could cause.

It's an excellent tool for communication. Its easy way to get msgs, I found friends I haven't seen for years or have lost contact with. I try to use it more for evangelism though. I pretty much keep my private info off...

Don't trust it much though, people put up what they think would sell. Dont have time to lime on it either, too much to do. But i wouldn't throw the baby out with the bath water. If there's someone i need to get in contact with urgently and there's no other way, there's always fb..LOL

I think it's a useful tool for staying in touch with friends. I moved half way across the country after I graduated high school so a lot of my friends are very far from me. I agree that teens should be monitored on that site, and it's unfortunate more aren't. As it stands my parents don't have accounts. My mother did in the past and she was on my friends list. I didn't mind. I almost think that if a teen gets an account, the parent should do so too and be friends on there. Not only would it offer an obvious way to make sure your kid's behaving, it's possible the teen will say things to the parent that would otherwise not be told in real life.

I've begun and stopped FB a couple of times. Recently I reactivated my account to keep in touch with my nieces, who are 700 miles away, and are like my own daughters in my heart. <3

It's nice to see their pics, esp of their kiddos :) but I get overwhelmed easily at having too many "friends". I have 16 (!!) and that's enough for me...how ppl do a couple hundred is beyong the scope of my comprehension! lol

My daughters sent friend requests, and it makes me happy to keep an eye on the 17 and 19 yo kiddos. And my oldest will be married and moving away in 3 weeks, so I think I'll enjoy her pics, too.(natch I'll prolly call her every other day...) ;)

A friend says she tends to spend too much time there, looking at everyone's posts and pictures...she recently gave it up for 40 days to re-prioritize her life and spend more time with the Lord. Seems like wisdom to me!

It does amaze me that some ppl, esp in my kiddos' generation, update constantly and are always in touch with it...courtesy of smart phones?
Does anyone else find it overwhelmes their lives?

It is very nice for keeping in touch with friends and family...especially with our soldiers overseas :) We have a nephew and a neice in Afghanistan.

But it is annoying having to read about people cleaning out their refrigerator or other trivial details.

I just got rid of it! I wanted to focus more on the in person relationships instead of trying to keep in touch with everyone. plus i was finding myself with to many contacts I never talked to. When I said i was getting rid of facebook a lot of people that I rarely talk to said that i shouldnt get rid of it and that they will miss seeing my pictures. But anyways i think that if people want to see my picture they can come over and visit or they can ask me to email them to them? I am not sure but its been almost 2 weeks no with no facebook and its been great.

Prodigal5: as they said in the olden days...I like your 'tude! :)

I had it, got rid of it, and got it again.

IFacebook makes it easier to stay in touch. Communication is more active than via email, and people tend to spend more time there than on, for instance MSN. I am getting more and more sceptic though, as facebook can store any information put up there...

I think its a great way to be in communication with ppl that usually we dont have time to see and talk everyday.
But like in all the things that are inside the internet we need to be very careful because its very dangerous to put personal data and there are "hunters" too like in all the web sites but maybe facebook is "safer" than other sites because we choose our friends.

I have known about a lot of issues between married couples because the internet, i think that is a temptation and a danger for some of them

i think its a great way to compromise your privacy moreso, but it can still be very time consuming sometimes.

My views...

1. Don't post anything you wouldn't want your worse enemy too see. It is the Internet.
2.You wouldn't let your child walk alone in a dark alley, so why would you give them an unsupervised Facebook account? It IS the Internet.

I hate facebook, I only use it because most of my family and friends are in Canada. Once I am back in Canada I will likely stop using it.

I don't hate facebook. Its not that big of a deal on its own. Its just like anything else, its a good service that gets misused. I have a FB account, mostly just family on it, and i rarely even post anything or send messages. I check it once a week. I refuse to accept strangers. I don't use it to meet new people. I don't really use it at all.. hmm... but i keep it. I did recently have a friend from 13 years ago hunt me down, which was awesome.

Given the Central Govt department I'm responsible to re: work, whilst I'm not banned from using Facebook, I am "actively discouraged" from using it. I have to be extremely cautious about the details I would post. That makes me a boring conversationalist !
I've also had previous cases where legal action has been taken under the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.
Facebook is a very handy tool to cyber bully a person as Article 10 Human Rights Act 1998 supply's.

Its like anything else in this world. It can be used for good or bad. It is a social tool to share your life with family and friends. It can also be used to share a daily scripture with others. Or it could be used to find a person to cheat with or predators to find prey. If the intention is pure and godly its fine. Don't deviate from that pure intention. If it could be used to advance a weakness in the person or intention is off from start I wouldn't recommend putting yourself in a bad situation to endure constant temptation or useless gossip or whatever the case may be.

The problem I have with facebook is that it is another tool that society (satan) is using to breakdown relationships. It is creating fake society for so many that many are spending less and less actual time with people and more and more time chatting/messaging on facebook with their "friends" of which most are no more than acquaintances. I have several actual friends who have more than 1000 "friends" on FB, you cannot keep up that many real relationships, it is just not legitimately possible. In fact there are studies that show that we can't cognitively maintain more than 150 relationships, and most of us have no more than 10-20 real relationships.

Besides, no matter how many "friends" we have, we actually interact with only a handful of them, according to Cameron Marlow, Facebook's "in-house sociologist." If you are a woman with 500 friends, you might post comments on the pages of about 26 and actually communicate with about 16. (For men, 17 and ten.) I've never done the math on my "friends," but that sounds about right. Those "friends" are the keepers. And maybe a few people I just find generally interesting.
The rest? Perfectly nice people, I'm sure, but they are not really your friends and so the question is why do people have more?
