Who is it that God has created you to be?

Often times in the church, many can get confused about the will of God for their lives because they can't seem to tell the difference between personal conviction and personal ambition. A basic teaching here at my church is that promotion in ministry simply celebrates the person you already are, utilizing the giftings that you already have. In other words, the person God has called you to be has a lot to do with the strengths that you already possess and the things you feel most comfortable doing. Basically, the person God has called you to be is already inside of you just waiting to happen. Keep in mind that just because you love to sing or play a guitar doesn't mean that you will be stuck on the praise team your entire life. God can and often does use people in a variety of different ways as they mature through out their lives.

So who or what is it that God has called you to be? (For the time being anyways... )

In the past I've always felt my calling was to be an evangelist. I love to travel and minister to some of the most unlikeliest of people. Over the years I have ministered to Muslims, Buddhists, Homosexuals, the homeless and a variety of different types of young people.

However, now things are changing. While I still burn for the people groups mentioned above, I truly believe the Lord is taking me into a different direction. I feel as though I'm being called into more of Pastoral / teaching role. This is actually quite odd for me seeing as I never really liked all the drama, complacency and hypocrisy that you see in many churches.

I'm also ready to be a husband & a father. Every time a hear a child laugh or cry it tugs on my heart strings tremendously. To some degree a husband / father is the Pastor of his own family so it's going to be interesting to see which develops.

- I think people (me included) tend to assume that our actions and gifts have to be something grand and extraordinary, and forget that even the tinyest thing to us, can mean a great deal to someone else.

Praise & Worship: From my earliest childhood I understood the power of praise and worship. I would wake from bad dreams and begin to praise the Lord with little songs I knew and learned very quickly that it made the scary stuff go away.

I loved to sing and was encouraged to do so, but I was terribly quiet and shy, so for the longest time I could only sing with my back to people. In my teens, I was asked to begin singing in services and I was so terrified that my lips would tremble, but I would get so lost in my passion for the Lord that I stopped caring and just let it fly. I have pretty much always served on praise teams, as I play keyboards/drums/flute, and love to harmonize.

Praise and worship is a very personal thing to me, as it was for David. When I began attending a new church when I moved, I was thrilled to be able to get lost in the congregation of worshippers without having to worry about the next song, coordinating musicians, etc. And then my Pastor came and ask me to help him lead worship. I was very hesitant and explained how very personal it is to me, and he told me that was exactly why God led him to draft me. I've been there a couple of years now and I love it very much.

I also write my own music and travel to other churches to sing.

Prayer Warrior: I think this is in my blood. I was raised by grandmothers, a mom and stepsisters who were/are prayer warriors. I've seen the power of prayer all of my life in the lives of so many others, have been healed miraculously through prayer twice and know that when I hear the call to pray in my spirit, I need to drop everything and get about the business of the Kingdom.

Protector: Since I'm not a man, I've always been a bit confused by this, but there is something in my spirit that has always called me to step up and protect/defend those who are too weak to defend themselves. Maybe it's a Deborah kind of thing, I don't know. Resisting it only frustrates me.

Women's Ministry: In younger days I was called to teach children and participate in youth ministry with my husband. Now that I am getting older, God seems to be using all He's taught me via work and life experience to share that with other ladies going through the most difficult of times.

God has called me to Purity, God's Way, a ministry for women about living a pure life the way God intended, radical purity in a radically impure world. Right now, it is a call that I face alone, but I know soon I will have others with the same passion at my side. God revealed to me that He cannot send me those that believe this and in His call for my life as of yet because I do not fully believe in the call...yet. Strange as it is, I know that I know that I know that He's called me to this, somehow, though, doubt lingers. Once I work through that doubt and fully trust in Christ with every aspect of my life, then the support and accountibility that I desire will come.

Thomas doubted, too, Mystydancer, and, Jesus removed that doubt, and, God said, too, that believing in Him is so much better when He does not need to make Himself in our lives' seen.


I'm not being saintly perfectionionist wanna-be sounding, I hope. God reached me back to Him in my mid 20s, with a concrete event that showed me He was God of my life. And, since that 'seeing' time, much revelation of things has been shown me, through people, through The Word, through dreams.

Just saying, mystydancer, maybe, this helps you reach deeper inside yourself where He is in you , giver of ALL our answers IF we believe

Thanks! Yes, I have learned that I expect things to be easy. Therefore, when I have to fight for something, I doubt that it's God. I am learning this as I go. It's exciting to be used by God, no matter what!

This is God''s call on your heart, mystydancer, it''s neat to know God''s way for us. We need not dally after He's made the 'tally,' or, He will get someone else.

Nopee, God does not mess around, His will will be done, and, I know/ believe the Lord leads but I have no doubt that I could have mssed His calls for me in past, but, good news, and, Good News, where sin (disobedience to God, not obeying His calls for us is sin, isn't it?) abounds, grace abounds more.

My heart's passion in with the youth and then the college students. For me, it breaks my heart when I see them roaming around with a lost look on there face, like the dogs that are running back and forth on a busy street. So many of them grow up without both parents, they aren't given boundaries, aren't taught right from wrong, and no nothing about God. Even those who do know about God do are not always taught right from wrong. And those that are taught, a lot of times they feel trapped and not sure what to do in certain situations. They feel the pressure of wanting to look cool and fit in but at the same time of wanting to please God. Many of these Godly young people are also confused by what they see adults do, and so when college time comes, they end up turning their backs on God, hurt because of what the "Christian" adults have done. And it doesn't matter if the church is truly focused on God, as Satan can and does try and bring people in to cause roadblocks for the youth who are sold out for Christ. At the same time, I see these young people whose hearts are burdened for their friends who are dealing with massive problems, such as abuse, divorce, depression. and for their friends who no nothing of Christ. My heart is to first, Pray for them that they would have the strength to withstand Satan's attacks, and to have courage to follow God's will and witness to their friends. I'm also there to talk with them as they need, and in the past I've also have been a Sunday School teacher, trying to make sure they see how God's Word is relevant in there lives.

Like Jules, I also feel a need to praise God. Not as strongly in music as working with young people, but, that would probably be my next strongest desire, to praise God. I enjoy arranging music, especially hymns of old. But I think if I had to chose to give up one, it would probably be music.

I also feel a strong need of being a role model to young women, and a teacher. Several years ago God started putting on my heart this thought, "Why Rubies instead of Diamonds?" At first, I thought it would be a book, but right now it's a blog that's goal is to help women live Godly lives. Maybe down the road it will become a book, I don't know. But right now, it's a blog. So basically, it's about being a ruby in a Diamond filled world.

I think they are others already stepping up to this. I don't know if you seen in the news recently, but a young Olympian was talking about remaining a virgin and how she is committed to doing just that. She's said that this has been one of her toughest battles, even tougher then training, but that she feels that is what God has called her to do.

I also have to add that in addition to reaching women and teaching them how to live Godly lives, I feel God also has me called to reach those who have gone through abortion. I do not know why, especially since I have never had to face one, but it's still there just the same.

Since i accepted Jesus as savior i felt a call to evangelist, it was like a very strong desire that i couldnt resist and i never travel but i found myself all the time talking about Jesus to every single person that crosses my way, even if i try to be quiet, ppl end asking me about God.
I feel a very strong call to to praise and worship (i cannot imagine myself not doing it), and i feel a call to pray too.

For the longest time I wanted to study American History and World Geography. My greatest desire is to study God's World, formally, as in Bible College or School of Theology. I do attend Bible Study at my church every week and on my own as often as I can. (my job allows me to schedule my days myself, so I often work in 2 hour lunches when I need time with God's Word). I have spoke during our Sunday Services a few times and can see myself doing that on a regular basis. I see my life moving in ways I hadn't planned on so perhaps God is working on something. I continue to pray and have faith and leave myself open to God's will.

You're never too old to go back to school, especially ministry school. I didn't go until my late 30's. We've got 40 somethings applying to attend the new school.
