I was saddened to hear today that Carrie Underwood supports gay marriage. :'(

I listen to country music allot and I feel like it is the "better" secular Genre's when it comes to God. I always like it when you come across a song that sends the right message. 'Jesus take the wheel' was one of the songs that drew me to country music, and I respected Carrie for her morals. Needless to say I pretty much lost my respect for Carrie, and I feel cheated in a way...

And NO this is NOT a thread about gay marriage and whether it is right or wrong, I am just voicing my displeasure.
 
IT's show-biz. Gotta rake in that dough. How do you do that? Make what sells. In Country music, you're selling to a specific demographic. I heard one today breifly before I changed the radio in disgust that was about "gettin' right with the Lord" after livin' it up, like he's gonna live life how he wants, and then at the home stretch he'll change teams. It's the demographic, bro.

Sure she is trying to make money, but coming out with this isn't going to make her tons of money. It's not like everyone in America supports gay marriage, honestly I am not going to buy any more of her music.

As far as the song you heard, yes that one is bad...unfortunately it's at the top of the charts right now so it gets played a ton. They have some other good songs but that one is a no-go.
 
I felt like being difficult: it IS about whether it is right or wrong (to you that is), it has to be, otherwise her being for or against tbe topic would be irrelevant to you, no?
 
Whats the big surprise. She started out some small town bumpkin who went from being a nobody to being a huge star. Whatever small town qualities that she had was quickly lost as her marketing went from her voice to selling her legs. The music industry is known for having these kinds of influences on people.

it IS wrong....no questions there, the Bible says so. I was pointing out that I thought she had better morals...I guess not.

With the way the world is headed I'm not sure why I was surprised, but it came as a bit of a shocker. It's unfortunate what fame does to people....another one 'corrupted'.
 
This is kinda like when Reba McEntire stated a few years ago that she believed in reincarnation. That got a lot of attention and backlash from country music fans. What I find interesting about this, when Carrie announced she supported gay marriage, this was basically a one day story, and as far as any news story I've read at this point, I've yet to see too much backlash reported at all. But I suppose that'll ultimately depend on her next album sales. Some news outlets even applauded her "courage" for standing out on this issue cause she's so "conservative". Which maybe that's what the world has come to, all this accepting and supporting people living in sin just cause it's apparently "right" for everyone to do whatever they think makes them happy. Being afraid to stand up for what God says for fear of being called a homophobe or some kind of hateful person.
 
You lost respect for someone you don't even know for having a different opinion than you, doesn't sound like there was much respect there in the first place.

Maybe it's just me but I feel people should have the ability to accept differing opinions, regardless if they like them or not.

If you're going to start deciding what music to buy based on the righteousness of the performer, you're not going to have much of a music collection.

Maybe there wasn't much respect to begin with, but however much there was is no longer there. I'm not a major fan of her music, but I liked what i THOUGHT she stood for.

I do accept differing opinions, but disagreeing with the Bible isn't an 'opinion' I will EVER accept. Opinions are just that, but disagreeing with the Bible isn't an opinion.

99% of them are unbelievers (i'm guessing) but most of the artists don't openly support gay marriage or something completely against the Bible. That doesn't make them any better, it's just different when she claims to be Christian and then says she supports gay marriage.
 
i didnt know much about Carrie Underwood. One night i was studying late and was searching for some music to keep me up. i came upon her song "Jesus take the wheel". I taught it was cool and appropriate..... because i really need Him to take the wheel on that paper I was doing. Then I took some time out to look at the video.
Red flag #1: it came up on VEVO
Red flag #2: something about the way she sang was subtly sensual; I remember thinking, Lord can she do that, what is she really communicating here?
Still like the song, but i wouldn't go after it.

She seems to be coming from the idea that Christians should love sinners, as Jesus taught, but it is a bit conflicting. There's a difference between supporting gay marriage, and supporting them as a Christian by loving them despite their sin, and sharing God's word with them. Where do we draw the line? Is gay marriage technically okay, so long as they don't do anything sexual? Can someone point to a verse in the Bible that says same-sex marriage is wrong? I understand why it's seen that way, since homosexuality is forbidden by God, but does it actually say anything against marriage?
 
Ok I don't understand the whol "Christians hate gay people" arguement. 1 John talks about loving your brother, otherwise you are just as bad also I refuse to hear Leviticus 17 used as an arguement because it sets out Jewish law and Christians don't follow any of it. If anyone can explain it to me I will be happy to hear it.
 
Also I am for Gay marriage as long as Churches aren't forced to host them. So why is it a problem. We are happy for Kim Kardashian to get married twice and cheat on her first husband and divorce the second but we are not happy for gay couples who have been loyal to one another for sometimes 20 odd years but they can't get married. Something is wrong with that logic. As long asgay marriage isn't forced upon Religions why should it bother youv
