Proverbs 16:27 Idle hands are the devil's workshop; idle lips are his mouthpiece.
This post is not directed to any handicapped or elderly people. I have seen many a person chat in this program for hours on end, even up to I would guess 6+ hours a day. Coming here can be wonderful and edifying but at that rate of visitation when do these people experience the time for application of the word in life. I know its nice to get hits for the site and it increases its value, but addiction is addiction and it is never a good thing.

people who fail to remove the plank from their own eye while notifying their brother of the speck in theirs... ;)

With all due respect to my brother in Christ. Outwardly focusing on another's sin or perceived sin is always in err unless you are their spiritual council. Do be sure to pray that the Lord will show you where you need to work on you. Applying Gods word to your life and loving others as you love yourself.

Addiction is when you HAVE to do something

how do you know they don't do it once in a while to kill time? And other days spend a lot of time on other things?

PS: If you know for sure these guys stay there for so many hours that must mean you do too

Maybe so, but at least being here is something positive. There are far worse things I could be doing on the internet.

Being addicted to Jesus and his people is a very good addiction!! God uses so many here,and Jesus although at times is left out of the room,always comes back strong in that very same room.I have seen this myself happen more then once! Many as you know brother Bjorn are hurting,from one thing or another,being here,is not being entertained!! It is being loved! cared for,yes given hope!

A reason to press on to yet another day! Perhaps kept from doing harm to oneself,or to another.Can one become to addicted to our Lord? Well if they can my brother,I hope I am the very worst of them! Many do not come on here to be helped but to help, to love,to give grace to those who so need it!

Because good brother,who among us does not have need of the very same thing?I sure do!I am sure you do as well. So be not so harsh on what you may not fully understand. What we understand is the need for one another,the need to learn and grow in the very knowledge of both God's Word,and from Jesus in each one of us. For by ourselves we already know what we can do,and since you also know this to be true in your own life,how can becoming addicted to God's people ever hurt us?( 1 John 4:7-19) By doing this, others see Jesus,and by them seeing Jesus in us,they have hope! Thank God for hope!( rom 15:13)

Or off the internet. I mean if people weren't here chatting all day and night, they'd probably be out murdering people and doing drugs. 'Hanging out' is the only thing stopping people from becoming addicted to porn or trolling people's youtube videos.

Silly logic, but I get what you mean.

I don't think everyone here is necessarily ADDICTED to being in chat rooms, but there are both better and worse ways to spend your time. Calling it fellowship or acting like it is similar to church is kind of a cop-out since I very rarely wander into a chatroom and stumble into fellowship or real discussion about Christian things. It usually just 'kickin it.'

No doubt people can be edified here and there is fellowship that does go on. But hanging out here for 60 hours for like an hour's worth of Christian fellowship is a waste of 59 hours.

Chat rooms can be a very very easy way to avoid living your life. The addiction is very similar to like World of Warcraft. Sure there is a game involved, but most people get hooked on the 'fellowship' of a guild. Those become your friends and you feel like you're letting them down if you're not around. It's a sneaky addiction, but addiction nonetheless.

Being addicted to chat rooms is not being addicted to the Lord.

Obfuscation only masks the sin of it.

It all comes back to the reason for coming to chat. Some people come looking for a mate, for a green card, for money,
for cyber, for business, to disrupr, to self-edify, to sell their own brand of religion, to harass, the list goes on and on.
Perhaps, everyone should look at their reasons for going to chatrooms.

I live in the bush. My faith grew in online Christian fellowship. I agree that it is well and good to keep balance in life and do other things. I agree with the OP in this. What I dont agree with is the outward reflection on another's sin. It is well and good to call out occasionally but how about starting it by saying how you've removed this plank from your own eye then are qualified to council others in how to effectively remove their spec. Its like trying as an unmarried man to provide marriage counselling. If you truly haven't struggled with this and overcome then what is your authority? Perhaps you are working on this for your own self. If so then boldly declare your failing.

Matt 23:12 "Whoever exalts himself shall be humbled; and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted.

But I was not speaking to those who are looking for a date,or in the lounge area,I was speaking to those of us, who care about the Lord,and how he can help others in the bible Study room,or prayer room so I should have been more clear.thanks for the reminder." I've been recovered from 10 hour a day Online Role Playing Game addiction for 3 years now. The planks been removed..Any other questions?

When a person goes into a chat room sees the same people there spends an hr and they are still there when you leave. Or if i have insomnia and pop in for 10 minutes and these same people are still on anyone with even half a brain would realize these people were addicted based on the information you have on the time I have logged on. Saying you see them all the time u must be addicted too is one of the most ignorant and facile statements I've ever seen in these forums.
Oh and that plank verse could very well be the most often taken out of context verse in the bible. If you go to restore your brother the way Paul outlines it does that mean the restorer has a plank in his eye100% of the time.

6 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

So I guess the verse above is null and void seeing as the person restoring needs to take the plank out of his eye because 100% of the time if you attempt to restore someone you have that same plank in your eye..uhhhuh

amen to that. Addiction is addiction and internet addiction can be just as time and life consuming as any drug. I once had a internet addiction. It was bad and eventually I realized it and had to be weened off of the internet by my mate. Chat such as yahoo and msn were big to me. It took my mate deleting all of my profiles and photos with a new set of relationship rules with the pc to break me.

Well is being addiction to Christ or Permarment Committment To Christ the same,why is so called all addiction bad.i come here for christian fellowship friendship prayer,faith sharing,if being on cc or any site does not inter with your other responsablities thier to me is nothing wrong with it,....
