It has not been so very long ago that a thread regarding music, a thing that can neither save us nor condemn us to hell, caused a great deal of judgmental remarks, lies, name calling and other things that should never be seen or heard among the siblings of Christ. Hopefully, when we see a thread begin to deteriorate, we can have the wisdom to remember the Spirit we are of, take a breath, and let the fruit of the Spirit take over.

As for judging,.I will speak for myself but I hope and pray I am not telling anyone what they MUST do for their current crop of chosen music, but I just told everyone what I did, like Hannah Colleen said what she is doing now, trying, anyway, to do, and, naut said 'music is to be enjoyed,' and, you said you would 'suffocate' without it, lol, hopefully just God you would suffocate without, and, liamsON said he likes music withbfeeling honesty, relatiinshio, like Nina, and, 99 Red Balloons does't swag it for him, 'you and i in a little toy shop, buy a bag of balloons with The money we got....' Aw, c'com,, liam, that sounds highly romantic and cutesy girly-boyly to me :D

Anyway, yeah, buh, uh, yeah, I think I could , you could, we all can/ will learn to Love and understand our , God, our disciplining, chastening, punishing Father who helps us understand ourselves better and , certsinly, yes, The way we Love Him can help us understand our musik (choice) better too. :)

The Lord leads :)

Mr. Green. I wanted to stay out of this, but I can't.

Convict: transitive verb - to show that somebody is in the wrong in some respect.

"Convict" is a proper term for what Jullianna was describing. Conviction can come from God. Condemnation, however, does not. There is a difference.

Why the word, 'convict,' julieannie, I see nowhere in scripture that explains that the Holy Spirit 'convicts' His sheep. He does chasten, correct, we who are His, scripture, indeed, does say 'God disciplines His own,' but that would be 'scourging' at the very highest degree of disciplining us. No conviction, for God is Love, such a word is just not a part of God's qualities, as, God cannot lie and God never would tempt us to evil and He knows, like your parents know, that finding fault and ALSO making said fault- doer guilty, is not comducive to our God who Loves us. :)

I hope, and, pray this makes sense, milady, God bless you, and, keep you, and, show you Loving correction when your music choice dishonors/de-glorifies Him .

Actually, this is something I'd have to respectfully disagree with. God does convict His people, for sure. He's convicted me of things I've done, and I've also heard many people give testimonies on what the Lord has convicted them of.

I can see why you say what you're saying, though.

The English definition of conviction is to be found guilty.

And, well, we are found guilty of sinning against God. AND usually, conviction comes with a sentence. And that sentence for us was condemnation to a place no one wants to go.

BUT,

Good News!! :) Jesus died and rose again! We are no longer condemned!! God is good!!

BUT, God will still, out of love, show us where we are still guilty of a sin. Because unfortunately, sin separates. I know that one from experience. Sin holds us up from getting closer to God. Big-time. And so, that's why God DOES convict us of our sins, so we can give that sin over to Him, and take out of our lives what is separating us from getting closer to Him. :) (btw, nooot promoting sinless perfection or any kind of legalism over here, just to make that clear. I believe fully in the grace of God. And God loves us where we are...but...food for thought over here...does God want us to stay stuck where we are?)

Sorry! I feel like this is a post that belongs in the Bible Study Forum >.< but sometimes you can't have one thing without having the other...and that's what it lead to in this!

Oh my word haha I was working on a post sorta similar but a LOT longer when you said this XD hahaha!

God does not convict you, which means finding you already been having been guilty and reminding you of your mistake having condemned you.

Just 'The world,' miladies (and notmydudes), that is who gets convicted, God does not need to GET Ayou into that kind of thinking of yourself, and He,never will, litttlechristianone, pop!clicktocktick.

But, sure, I like disagreement, The Lord leads, it's all good from God. Now Satan? If we want to talk about that snake, ahd, I know we don't, he will goadedly and gladly sing you sweet songs of conviction nothing but the best for you, he will say , and, say you're so innocent so don't worry about doing 'that,,' whatever 'that' is, and, then after you do 'it,' that slimy serpentine fellow will yank your chain, get your goat, until The teasing becomes.....

.......conviction. Ah, but thankfully, we who are in Him with Him within KNOW that guilt is superceded by overpowering power that is from Him given us. :)

Convict: transitive verb - to show that somebody is in the wrong in some respect.

Is this not required, for correction to take place?

Satan convicts, not God.

Christ dying for us exhumed our guilt, consumed it, gone there that stuck disappearioso :)

We get into a mentality of thinking we are convicted by God, pop.click! because parents aren't perfect, they made us guilty when we did some crimes, like sneaking out your bedroom window to meet some boy @ 2 am when, pop.click! , youwere grounded :(

But, parents too loved you too, trying to tell you that your sneaking out was wrong but hopefully you understand that we are triple grounding you now cuz of that, pop.click!, because of your initial offense of stealing money from The family cookie jar in mom n dads room.

Anyway, God is our PERFECT parent and He Loves us and we are frail, weak creatures, The all of us, and God knows that ALL of us will crack and do wrong things if He were to guilt us of our wrong. Therefore, God just Loves us, always when we do wrong, sometimes, like yer mom and dads , its really 'tough Love, but The discipline that corrects or chastens or even is an all-out God-Loving scourging by God is never conviction. I just don't see it in scripture, The Lord leads me, I hope and pray, with all I say , I like your ops, Christ peeps :) Let Him lead you, too :)

I try to as much as I can, stay away from secular music. Instrumentals (such as classical music) I can tolerate, more, but not all of the time.

I stay away from modern country music entirely.

I mostly listen to hymns, psalm singing, and Christian Hip Hop/Rap. I stay away from the "Christian Top 40".

I also stay away from David Crowder.

Just a sample: David Crowder’s crowded theology. | Defending. Contending. <--- click

EDIT: Oh, and I listen to the news, sometimes.

Have you considered looking at the christian distros and record labels..i found a good one...sounds up your alley..one in particular even has metal...hardcore...'rock' whatever that means...i have the last few days been listening to more christian music..i enjoy even a little bit of the slower simplistic stifd like Forking&country..and found a bythetree cd for a buck at a store new..reminds me at times of embodyment mixed with googoodolls...i like stufd from vnv nation..neurotic fish..older apoptygma beserker..to nile..naeara...soilwork..evergrey..etc..even countrt music..lately its been a little more christian...got a worshipformen cd i bought at borders back when they were in busi.ess thats staying in my car

I like your listing some christian music comparative to some secular rock, raulee, that is good, as, I know it can seem like the christian music is just nit up to snuff of sec. But, I know, groups like skillet can rival some of those bands in your kong list, naut.

You just have to pray and listen and give God a chance to work that Christ-centered stuff into your 'snuff'.' ;)

Okay for the David Crowder thing,

Have you found other sources to confirm what this blog says? Don't get your info from just one source.

Thanks for the hugs, PopClick. Good posts, PopClick and LIL :)

In John 16, JESUS said this about the Holy Spirit: "When he [the Holy Spirit] comes, he will convict the world, and show where right and wrong and judgment lie. He will convict them of wrong..."

Unless the Holy Spirit shows us our sin, we cannot understand our need to repent or our need for a Savior.

Oswald Chambers said this: "Conviction of sin is one of the rarest things that ever strikes a man. It is the threshold of an understanding of God. Jesus Christ said that when the Holy Spirit came He would convict of sin, and when the Holy Spirit rouses the conscience and brings him into the presence of God, it is not his relationship with men that bothers him, but his relationship with God."

I think the problem is that people often confuse conviction with condemnation. They are not synonymous. Even within our earthly system of law, conviction doesn't always lead to condemnation. The mercy of the court allows for sentences to be commuted or pardoned.

Regarding "condemnation" (not "conviction"), Romans says this:
"Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus" :)

And since God does not condemn us, I can't imagine that He looks lightly upon our condemnation of one another.

This is it! Absolutely, julieannie, exactly what I pray is the Truth of God never convicting those who are ALREADY in Him., great find, thx, milady, and, may God bless you for showing others His Love is never of conviction. Just way too many, in Christ STILL think.their past bad things shiuld be guilting them, or, even their present things, ni,, and, no, our God is Love and will help you understand the error of your ways , with mercy, grace Love, but NEVER conviction.

Oswald Chambers, a man I've read devotions of regularly, speaks of conviction being the rarest of things for a human, as, we, at our precipice of choice, choosing God or not in full, devoted belief of His Son dying on cross, is where we ARE convicted, this ONE point God DOES convict a human. Before choosing Christ as our Saviour and Lord, we are convicted of our sins. But after we having chosen Christ we do not sin, 'born of God,' one 'does not sin.' 1 John 3:6 . Why does Jesus need to convict His sheep of wrongdoing when they just need correction, castening, or, maybe, a good spanking with 'the rod.'

Sorry, again, if it siunds like I am letting you not have to feel the way you do about your sin, Christ peeps but it's true, it's Truth, once you are His you are no longer in the bondage of guilt, you are FREE, indeed, if you are His
:)

Green, I still sin even though I belong to Him, and the Holy Spirit continues to show me things I need to release to the Lord, but you have no authority over or effect upon any of those things, so no apology is necessary. :)

Sorry about the duplication. Not sure how that first post occurred. I must have bumped something before I finished editting. I was watching something while I was typing. :)

Well, here goes.

I don't like a whole lot of secular music because of the sexual content and some of it even has ties to the occult.

Not saying all of it does, though. But a lot. It's hard to filter through everything. So, because of that, I really don't listen to much secular music at all.

To be honest, the ONLY thing that's secular I really listen to or enjoy listening to is....go ahead and laugh...but I like listening to One Direction. For the most part they're clean. And they do have really good voices. They have a lot of talent and I definitely respect them as musicians. But other than that, these are the things I listen to:

Leeland

Building429

Sidewalk Prophets

Tenth Avenue North

Royal Tailor

David Crowder Band

Switchfoot

Big Daddy Weave

Skillet

Sanctus Real

Manafest

Chris August

KJ-52

Though I don't listen to him often, John Reuben

Lecrae (I don't listen to him often, either. but he's good :) )

and then last but not least, I like some Stellar Kart. :)

As far as lyrics being "obvious," why's it matter if they are? I think I'd want to be obvious that I'm worshiping God...and simplicity is okay at times. Sometimes we do need to tone it down and just step away from all of that secular stuff. And not just on Sundays...what matters is what we listen to the other 6 days of the week.

This is a verse I think is good to go by when looking at music

Philippians 4:8New American Standard Bible (NASB)

8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.

And just a disclaimer about what I said earlier on secular music, like lyrics and stuff, not trying to tell anyone to stop listening to it. Just giving my reasons why I never did really listen to it lol

Exdellent, littlechristianone, it's good to list Christian alternative that can be listened to for others not sure how to gradient from sec to Christian :)

I'll input my two cents here even though the thread seems to be lined with gold already. Before I got saved I listened to country music all the time, for hours a day on certain days. After I got saved country music totally lost it's appeal to me, and I submerged myself in Christian music....within a week I knew just about every song K-love played. I didn't listen to ANY country music for three months and didn't get back into it for quite a while.

Now I listen to both about the same and truthfully it's pretty awesome! I love cranking the volume when a good song comes on and the songs I rock out to the hardest are generally the Christian ones....

Anyway, the point I was trying to make is that music only affects you in the way that you let it. When i was first saved it was too much to handle, and I got it out of my head. Now that I am a little more ''settled'' I am able to listen to it and not have it affect me as much as it would have then.

To each his own I guess.....

Absolutely cool, adeK, how God moved in you once saved, and, there are a lot of good country songs, just the whole point of the thread is to not be stuck in a pleasure choice of music selection, don't 'Let love' rule,' as Lenny Kravitz sings but to let Love rule your life and like nicestguy says, The Lord leads, but, yeah, he says he sometimes listens to music without 'Jesus' in the words to learn other things, like 'humorous,' things. Great, sobe it, that then how the energy of Him leads you into 'the world.' Be careful and be strong, be with Him. I absolutely agree, we are to be 'in The world but not of The world,' scripture says. And adeK, God has you, right, so just go with music , and, life , where He leads. :)

It seemed to me that it was a cumulative list, not an either or: It requires nobility AND righteousness, AND truth....etc.

This can be fir lightnin' and julieannie....

Yes, absolutely, The Holy Spirit presses into us when we sin, we are just covered by the blood of Christ when we sin and it is known by us IMMEDIATELY by HS power in us and , sin, IF, it is allowed inside us will take away The Spirit from us so we MUST be living our life free of sin, which is wholly possible because those born of God do not sin, The Spirit usurps sin from us. The scripture tells us this Truth, as previously stated, 1 John 3:6 , and, 9, too. Deep stuff, and, lightnin' mentioned 'righteousness' and 'truth,'
which, coincidentally are fruits of the (Holy) Spirit, and, God is wanting us to reach these things, along with 'goodness.' Eph. 5:9 :)

God wants us to become displaying the fruits of the Spirit, more too listed in Galatians 5, God, therefore, would be being counterproductive to His goal for us to be 'Spirit-filled' with 'fruits' IF God were to convict us of our wrongs. God just shows us where we messed up and Lovingly corrects,us, or,, IF more force is needed because He sees the danger of our departing The faith of Him and going to the darkside.
God is our Father, our perfect Father, raising us...

perfect. :)
Your music should be a choice that strives for an inner gut feeling of Spirited perfection too. This goes for all areas of our life, it is personal, as, when Peter was mad at Jesus for Judas (the betrayer) being able to follow in John 21 v. 20. When Peter says, 'What about this man?'
Jesus says.....

'If I will that he remains till I come what is that to you? ¥ou follow me.'

You pray and do your thang that God has you to do, worry about no one else, keep in min, in all this said, scripture is clear, we are to 'expose darkness.' :)

There are various meanings for the word 'convict' and one of those meanings is..
2
: to convince of error or sinfulness

Thats according to Merriam-Webster. So the only definition of convict is not condemnation. It is not satans job to make us aware of our sinfulness or mistakes. You're insisting on adhering to only one definition, when there is, in fact, more than one definition. As has been shown twice.
