My family and I did decide to eat at Chick-Fil-A. We did not go to idolize the place but went to support a man's business with whom we have the same views of same-sex marriage. We were supporting our freedom of speech and showing the world, that just like the owner, we too do not support something unbiblical. And it was nice being in a building with people who all had the same view on the matter.
If going and supporting a place that is run by fallen humans (but humans that claim to have faith), then is going to church (run by fallen humans who claim to have faith) idolizing the church? It just doesn't make sense that people, including me, who went in support of the whole matter are now being catergorized as idolizing Chcik-Fil-A.
Occassionally I would buy a few things from Target. Recently, I was thinking of setting up my baby registry there but my husband informed me that they support same-sex marriage, so I will not be registering with them. Now, am I going to research every store I shop at to see if their beliefs align with mine...no. But once I know who they support, good or evil, I will make my descision on whether or not I want to support them.

It's not as if the company put up a gay bashing billboard and told everyone who agreed to come on over and buy a chicken sandwich, which seems to be what some in the media would like us to believe...and some will choose to believe.
The man appeared on a faith-based program and was asked a faith-based question, which he answered honestly. Should he have lied? CFA Appreciation Day was not his or his company's doing. Should they tell people not to support their company?
I didn't go to the Appreciation Day event due to other responsibilities, but now I wish I had. Not because I wanted to throw an invisible stone at some invisible person for some invisible reason, but because I'm tired of some trying to convince me that the majority of the people in my country support a concept that I don't when their own studies don't reflect this and I don't care for the implication that only those who support gay marriage should have the right to speak freely. I see no problem with peacefully speaking one's heart and mind.
There is nothing wrong with speaking the truth in love. Jesus did it. We are called to it. But satan doesn't like it and clearly neither do those who want to force feed this agenda to American christians. They want us to silently accept the lies and they seem to love it when things like this pit christians against christians.
God richly blessed men like Abraham and Job for their faithfulness according to scripture. I don't have a problem with that at all. Has anyone bothered to talk with the gentleman regarding what he might want to do with some of the funds received due to this event? Have any of us heard anything about that yet? Or is there some assumption that CFA will keep every penny for themselves?

First, I didn't participate in the activities simply because the town I live in doesn't have a CFA. While I have absolutely no problem with Christians supporting CFA, what I do have a problem with are all the professing "Christians" who are using this as means to improve their own image by jumping on the CFA bandwagon. Social media has been overrun with pictures and "testimonies" bragging about how long they suffered standing in line to get a sandwich. Yet, if you were to ask these same people to volunteer the same amount of time each month at a homeless shelter, soup kitchen or an old folks home, they would pitch a fit that they don't have the time, money or energy.

The same could be said for voting. Everyone wants to jump on the anti-abortion political bandwagon. However, God forbid you mention them opening their home to either foster, adopt a child or contribute some other means to bring a real solution to the abortion issue.

Whenever someone says "I don’t have a problem with ...", i think they really do. If that is okay for me to say that. I liked your "Maybe…just maybe…the gospel would have been far better served today if we had put down our chicken sandwiches and picked up the banner of love instead…"
If i ran CFA i would not want this attention, and if they have come out with a statement like yours, i think it would have been better.

Another thing I'm learning is how quickly both christians and non-christians who consider themselves to be "tolerant" quickly become vehemently intolerant of any viewpoint other than their own.
And I wonder how many christians and non-christians heard what the gentleman actually said, in full, in context, or whether they just heard media snippets or took someone else's word for what was said.

So how do we speak the truth in Love whilst contending for the Faith in a world of social media hype, where everyone has an opinion which can be spread across the world in a short time..
Is it a fine balance..? wisdom..? or to be truly like Jesus.. who was full of Grace and Truth.. to be both (graceful and truthful) seems to be difficult in a world which loves to have it's own way and distorts the truth.. or at least, i'm finding it difficult.. (to be Loving, Graceful, Faithful and Truthful in this world)

I can't help but wonder how many people were brought to Christ or turned away from sin because of chicken sandwiches. While there is nothing wrong with standing up for Christianity, and we all should I do have a problem with people neglecting the fact that as Christians we are to help those who are lost. So I do wonder how many lost souls were helped by people standing in line for food. I have yet to hear of any stories where this occured.
I didn't go to a Chick-Fil-A because the nearest one is an hour away (though, there will be on about 10 minutes away from me sometime this year so YAY!!)...but I would have gone there so I could support someone's freedom of speech and my own because I believe the same way he does. Because honestly if we don't support our freedom of speech, we're gonna lose it.

Don't get me wrong. I have no problem whatsoever with supporting CFA. However, I do have a problem with superficial "Christians" bragging about their support of CFA to make themselves look good in front others because it's the popular thing to do at the moment. If it were not for all the attention being generated right now over this issue, the vast majority of these people would be some place else chasing some other bandwagon in the hopes of making themselves look good.

This is a whole lot bigger than chicken sandwiches. This a free speech issue. If christians continue to allow themselves to be bullied and silenced about anything, how long will it be before it is illegal to discuss our faith at all? I used to think something like that would never happen in the U.S...and then the whole "hate speech" legislation thing came into being...

I just love how one sided everyone is about free speech. For goodness sakes people those for "gay rights" have free speech too.
To those of you saying he is using this just to make profit do you think that if he is misusing God's name and Word that his company will survive? Uh..no!
As for those of you saying you won't buy anything that the money will go to support something or against well good luck with that.

Apple products?(a lot of you probably have some sort of electronic device with an i in front of it)

That isn't even half of the list. What I am trying to say is it is going to be hard to find companies that don't support "gay rights." The way I look at is I am buying their product not their beliefs. Think about it when you make a purchase that money becomes that companies money. They can use it how they want to. If you want to get real technical about it just say your money didn't go to support "gay rights" that it instead went towards the CEOs vacation or even the employees paycheck. Seriously though instead of worrying about stuff you can't control why not worry about stuff you can. Do you really think you are going to significantly hurt a company by not going there? Honestly lets just all grow up and use the common sense God gave us.

Unfortunately, even our tax dollars these days are used to support things that are in opposition to scripture. Thankfully, we still have the freedom to say that. So far.

No one directly said "gay rights" activists don't have free speech, but when you sit there and say that you are going to defend someone's free speech what may I ask you are you protecting it from?

Just cause someone criticizes something someone has done or said doesn't mean they are taking away that persons free speech. People need to grow up and stop trying to twist the Constitution their way. Honestly you shouldn't even care for what man says cause I can tell you right now man is wrong about most things and man isn't going to save you from Hell(not saying anyone on here is going to Hell).

This is exactly my point. They have FREE SPEECH too! They can say what they want about Christianity or what Mr. Cathy said, but that doesn't mean it's true. Instead of counterattacking how about showing your the better person by not firing back at all? Honestly too many people claim to be Christians, but don't live by Christian standards.
I don't blame them for bashing Christians either when you see what the media says about Christians. Prime example those morons at the Westboro Baptist Church. Most Christians aren't like that, but that is what non-Christians picture in their mind when they think of Christians. All I am saying is we really need to take a step back and get things into perspective before jumping to conclusions.

I agree, Lil Christian. Clearly a lot of people are unaware of the proposed "hate crimes" legislation and the agenda to silence christians.
The issue is not as simple as someone disagreeing or speaking against an opposing viewpoint. I can respect that. The issue is attempting to bully and attack others because of their viewpoints to the point that certain city leaders make public recorded statements that certain businesses who have CEOs who speak their minds regarding matters of faith will not be welcome in their cities. If that's not an attack on free speech, I don't know what is.
