I know that some ladies do it from time to time as well, but what is it with guys and fictional characters from books/movies/videogames?

Its just the fantasy. Superheroes and leading men have it all.. looks, power, wit, invincibility, sex appeal, mysticism and often romantic charm too. What's not to like ;)

Plus they're good to have around when you need to get rid of some bad guys. :)

I hope this doesn't sound too lame, but I have at times uttered the phrase:

I think it's easy for guys to identify with certain aspects of superheros and videogame characters, just because we feel some of the same feelings. Rage and a sense of justice are powerful tools.

On the occasions when I have needed to go into protector mode, I almost always think of either The Hulk, The Thing or Batman. Not fixated, just a fleeting thought or a quip of "where did I park The Batmobile?" Anyway, I guess this post is nerdy enough now.

(*epic movie announcer voice*) First, Jullianna, let me just say this...

It was a time of desolation! Fear...vice...violence...and every unspeakable horror of mankind ran rampant in the streets! It was time...for a hero!

(*back to my regular voice*)

*Interior monologue* A hero like me!!! <--- Admit it or not, most guys probably relate...somewhere inside.

Why do guys like fiction. It's fun, often cooler than reality, and just believable enough to be able to plug yourself into the scenario. I'd like to beat up the bad guys, rescue the peoplez, get the girl, save the day. Common! It's awesome!

So, that's for the moderately believable, but what about the impossible?

Same thing!

Now, not everyone is into them, but for those who like...it's fun! I mean, video games & movies of the action/fantasy variety are just incredible!

*mock conversation*

" You mean you can blow up...PLANETS?!?!"

" Oh yeah...that's just the first level..."

Men, (mostly), are descendant from warriors/hunters/kingdoms, ext...and, again most, not all, like some sense of action, adventure, violence, saving the day, ext.

We dream of it. Most don't find it in reality, so having it in fiction at least 'takes the edge off' of the itch.

A classic example is 'Rhino' from the movie Bolt.

He watches Bolt, the super action hero dog of all time!..., and dreams that he could be such an individual. Well, as the story progresses, he gets to be. It's the classic example of people like us. (Except that many don't get to be...)

This is one the reason why guys like Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone, and other heroic characters that are just believable enough to become. The unbelievable ones inspire/entertain us too!

So...now that I feel like I haven't adequately answered the question and just made a lot of references...here are some more...and background music!!

**Game Heroes**

**Superheroes (As in...has superhuman powers)**

**Action Movie Heroes**

Reece, my female brain got this part: "This is one of the reasons why guys like Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone, and other heroic characters that are just believable enough to become." :D The rest was very entertaining. :)

Shawntc, best answer ever. :) (Read the responses. It might help.)

Beats me, I've never understood a lot of things about my own gender either. Although I enjoy "guy" movies, I really don't hold the actors that star in them in any high regard, I can't rattle off sports statistics or old muscle car specs like many guys can. I guess I'm just a little odd as far as men go.

I dont know it depends, like I like the ones that fight to the bitter end. Like the one guy just keeps fighting on and on so someone else can escape and finally falls at the end. its just something epic. I know my roommate is into the same things. Think 300, the dark knight rises, stuff like that.

Don't feel bad. I don't like many "chick flicks", won't attend a PamperedChef/whateverelse they wanna sell me party or bring myself to call a guy "yummy" either. :)

I think men have this spark of courage and justice in them (not that women don't, but its different). They want to go out defeat the bad guy, save the girl. They want to be a hero. Video games are a means to be one. I think God made them that way. I like that :) However, I wouldn't date a guy who is constantly playing video games cus I would like to go outside, and go places with him. I don't think this spark was given to be expressed electronically in their parents basement (I'm stereotyping, I know :p), but in the real world. My 2 cents. Could be totally wrong here tho:confused:
