Okay, so I like big purses and I actually carry my entire life around in my purse, if you know what I mean :D

I could even say that I could spontaneously leave the country with all I've got in my purse.....:D

No, but seriously i have a lot of stuff in there:

  • *Big wallet (some might think it's so big cause I have a lot of money, but nope....it just is)
  • *Two pens
  • *a notebook
  • *hand sanitizer (got it from Bath and Body works, when I was in the USA one month ago, by the way America is awesome :D)
  • *tissues (this actualy new, that I carry tissues with me, cause my brother would always ask me, Meems do you have a tissue and I would say no and he would say WHAT KIND OF GIRL ARE YOU?
  • *Phone
  • *Keys
  • *ear buds
  • *a book (currently Lies young women believe by Demoss & Gresh
  • *corn sugar (I am diabetic)
  • *glucometer (as I said....I'm diabetic)
  • *cosmetic bag (yes, a bag in a bag.....containing lip balm, lip gloss, mascara, concealer and hand lotion)
  • *superglue
  • *a bottle of fresh water (I'm trying to live healthy)

LOL @ this:
"I could even say that I could spontaneously leave the country with all I've got in my purse.....:D"

I have to confess that my lipgloss, lotion, nailclippers and comb are in a cosmetic bag as well. I hate that stuff rattling around loose in there. :)

I fight tooth-and-nail against carrying a purse. I'm convinced that I'll leave it somewhere. So, I usually have driver's license, credit card, and maybe some cash in my back pocket. Change and keys in my front pocket. If at all possible I leave my cell phone at home, because I hate carrying it! But it fits in the other front pocket, if I do take it with me. And if I'll be gone a while and need to take anything else, I wear cargo pants.

I hate being bothered with carrying a purse when I'm shopping, traveling, sightseeing, etc. too, Popclick. I tend to pull my wallet out of my purse (I always buy a very small one for this reason), leave my purse in the car, grab my sunglasses, car key and go. :)

I was wondering if I should reply to this because I figured my purse was all the way in the dining room... then I looked to the right and saw it was sharing my bed space. :O

The Wikipedia article has a list of commonly carried items or items to consider. Among those mentioned here was the Pepper Spray (or similar). In addition, a mini-flashlight and a whistle are often suggested for a woman. Of course this all depends on what you are preparing for, what is reasonable in your situation, and of course a broad situational awareness. I am glad that you ladies are at least thinking. There are many Youtube videos on what people have researched, tested, sized and costed that might also help. Again, it depends; are you planning on doing major surgery or will a band-aid, some ointment and a swiss army knife suffice? In addition to your personal carry, please be conscious of a car emergency kit, and a home emergency kit. Some women use an Altoids tin as a discrete / covert way to store "Urban Survival Stuff" in their purse (photo below). Best Wishes!

Below is the wiki list for your review:

List of common items

* A folding knife, multitool or Swiss Army Knife

* A wrist watch

* A Flashlight (may be on a key-chain, headlamp, and "tactical" flashlight which normally has a brighter output to blind and stun assailants.

* Whistle or Airhorn (Noise Makers)

* Cell phones, Smart Phones or other media devices like digital camera to record evidence. (Sometimes satellite phones if in remote areas)

* Sustainment items (e.g. Bottled water, High energy foods)

* Pen, pencil, or a tactical pen similar in concept to a kubotan for striking and stabbing.

* Medicine for common ailments and maladies that besets individuals like allergies and gastrointestinal problems or prescription medicine that has to be taken daily.

* First aid kit or trauma kit.

*
Rope or paracord

* Handkerchiefs or other utility cloth.

* Keys containing key chain and accessories like light, nail clipper, pill bottle, folding scissor, carabiner, kubotan or similar impact/piercing self-defense weapon.

* Gloves can be latex, nitrile, leather, or synthetic.

* Pepper Spray/OC spray or Stun Gun/Tazer

*
Pistol and Holster

EDIT: OH! Nautilus had a great idea with cough drops. Sometimes I've been out and REALLY wish I had a cough drop because of this or that. So I think I'll grab some and dump some in my purse. :D We have like tons of them in the cupboard XD even better they're citrus-flavored :D

What's in my purse? It depends on the occasion, the weather, and how long I will be out. On a typical summer day when I'm going to say...the grocery store, I only take my car key, phone, sunglasses (usually on my head), and wallet. I ensure to carry only the things I will need not unnecessary stuff. I sometimes wonder why the inside of some women's luggage...I mean purse... looks like they are carrying their entire closet. I don't get it haha. I don't really like carrying purses, in fact, if I could go out without carrying one I would (my pockets are my best friends :)) but sometimes I fear that I'll misplace things. lol
In the winter time I tend to carry a quite lot. Gloves and hat (if they are not on me), phone, lip gloss, lotion, sunglasses, hair brush ('tis the season for messy hair), wallet, and Kleenex.

Good and interesting responses in the thread so far! The idea of the thread wasn't to sell anyone on purse additions. In fact, there is no real security in carrying a flashlight or a whistle, pepper-spray or even a handgun. The secret to real security isn't an altoids tin filled with 'stuff'. The secret known in Christian Chat is that true security is in understanding the human psyche, ours and that of the social system, addressing our own understanding and thus responses, and addressing the larger social issues that confront us. This excuses us from having to carry a flashlight or a gun to provide safety and security because we avoid or address the issues head on.
These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them,
saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any
city of the Samaritans enter ye not: But go rather to the
lost sheep of the house of Israel. And as ye go, preach,
saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick,
cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely
ye have received, freely give. Provide neither gold, nor
silver, nor brass in your purses, Nor scrip for your
journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves:
for the workman is worthy of his meat. Matthew 10:5-10

Once we address these issues, personal and societal, the approach can change - we need to get the word out, not religious or pious or self-righteous, but simple truths of behavior and temperance and self control and sharing with others -- then:

And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse,
and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said,
Nothing. Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a
purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that
hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one. Luke 22:35-36

I also just really like the taste of honey lemon coughdrops...im weird like that

hehe, honey-lemon isn't TOO bad...it's better than cherry.

(I can't stand barely anything cherry. So cherry cough drops are OUT of the question.)

You would know the necessity of a flashlight, if you were in the midst of a storm, in an inside classroom and several students under your care taking a major state test, when the school looses electricity. Trust me, it can get so dark, that you can't even see your fingers two inches in front of your face.

What we call a torch here, Jules, is the mini electric lanterns. I wonder if those are they same where Katie is.

I think by torch she means flashlight. ;)

HAHAHAH! Yes, a flashlight!

I keep forgetting 'torch' has an altogether different meaning for you... lol yes, I carry the olympic torch in my purse...why don't you?

And for the record, I use my torch/flashlight all the time, it's a very handy item to have in my bag.

I thought every resourceful lady carried a torch in her purse.....I mean you just never know when you're gonna need to cut through steel.
