This afternoon i had a discussion with some other people in the Lounge. One of those people was a scientist in his 30's.
Now i have read enough books, and understand all kinds of scientific theories.
Some of them are nothing more than that: THEORIES, like for instance the whole idea of the Big Bang.

But this fellow defended that idea, and other similar theories as being accurate. To him the Bible was just an old book...

He said i wouldn't be able to understand what he said, because im 'just' 18.

I mean... REALLY?

If this is the way scientists like him 'defend' their truth, through ageism, i will have nothing to do with it...

(Funny enough my retorts made him leave the room after a while, lol) :D

Well...you are just 18. To think you know more than someone who has worked in their field professionally for more than a decade is pretty arrogant, don't you think?

Maybe you really do have the right of it. Maybe he's not really a scientist at all (this IS the internet, afterall). But I see no need to brag about it.

From what you posted, it seems you missed an opportunity to share the truth of Christ.

Maybe i do not as much facts as he does,
but that doesn't mean he has to treat me like i don't know or understand a thing
JUST BECAUSE I'M 18!
Now THERE's arrogance for you.

And no worries, i tried to share the truth of Christ Jesus,
but since i'm only a babe, he wouldn't listen.

Actually i was there to witness much of this 'discussion'. The 'scientist' in question was quite rude. His tone was not simply 'oh, you're still young, you'll get it one day', but was much more condescending and insulting. As i was watching i was quite irritated with this 'mans' attitude and tone. But he does this often. I see him regularly in the rooms, seeming to seek out any chance to get into a 'debate' then passing people arguments off with a dismissive, disrespectful air of how he talks to people.

well if this was me, I wounldn't mind debating with him. You know there are tons of people in this world like that scientist and there are some that are worst. Us as christian are going to have to deal with them types. People will come and say this and that that is against God's word, but stay FIRM and share with them, if they want to have a debate ,debate it is, show bible verses. They are your strong sources. Our roll on this earth is to share with those lost souls about our Father in heaven, trying to save souls and that is all and baby in Christ or not. Still go HARD ! God will give you opportunities to you for you to share and its your roll to go out there :) age don't matter .. its the heart that matter :)

You could read into his section of science try and understand it that way next time you can show that you can understand what he's saying and have a stronger footing. I can tell from you post that you misinterprets the word theorys when used in science that will be a good place to start but that's up to you if you don't want to then just ignore him.

I know people who don't belive in your religion but its also vice versa and not every non believer is like that we are just as bad as each other at the end of the day

Science "claims" theories are based on knowledge, testing and facts, yet theories along the lines of the big bang only has speculations and possibilities, no proofs. There are scientist who do not believe everything is exactly the way other scientists claim their "proven" theories show. :) Years back scientist "knew for a fact" the earth was flat ;)

It happens. Don't let it bother you. His remark shows that he had nothing of substance to counter your argument/s.

I have another theory, what if god's power was so awesome that when he just said "let there be light"an explosion occured that was so bright it still sparkles. He is almighty, doesnt that give you enough evidence that he IS so amazingly powerfull?

Im not disagreeing, remmember, those foolish scientists are supposed to have theories, otherwise they might aswell call themselves lunatics.Perhaps they are?Humans are very gullible,so the devil will use that as an advantage. But the devil is NOT almighty thats why we are here!:D

Funny how this thread suddenly isn't about ageism anymore. I shouldn't have mentioned the Big Bang, i'm sure. :D

I just wanted to stress how young people are still looked down upon by older people,
for no other reason than that the ARE younger...

It's discrimination to say that a woman is by definition less smart than a man, JUST because she's a female...
It's racism to say an african american is less intelligent than a causacian, JUST because he's an african american...
So too it's discrimination to say a younger person is by defintion less bright, JUST because he is younger..

Its a tricky situation. I don't believe in automatically dismissing someone due to age, but at the same time i know that sometimes a young persons age IS a factor. I have recognized the need to see a young persons age is at times the problem dealing with them.
Teens are notorious for believing they know as much or more than adults. And in some cases, or topics, that may be true. But teens need to also recognize that they have less experience in the world, and often times less wisdom and knowledge and not always assume they know everything. So its really something that needs to be handled correctly on both sides. Not judging teens for their age, and teens not being prideful of thinking they know better than adults about everything.

That's why i used the term "by definition" a lot...
You can't say a younger person is less intelligent BY DEFINITION, JUST because he's youger.
I mean... come on: give the kid a chance!!! ;)

This is post no. 100 from a 18 year old dutch kid
who's native language isn't even english..
not bad hu? ;)

... and btw, speaking of life experience:
if a 19 year old "kid"
is sent to Iraq and/or Afghanistan,
and comes back home,
i'm sure he has more life experience
than a lot of older people
that never served their country...

Just to get this straight, a person only serves their country when they serve in war? And PTSD is life experience?

And the bible says the earth was made in the center of everthing and the sun went around the earth.

what you say is half true its not like a scientist can say anything and its accept when a new theory is presented it goes through a board and before that it needs to have backing evidence the big bang theory does have supporting evidence.

Also theorys do work if a theory doesnt work it is not accepted they can prove theroys through math and simulation.

I think he has something in that experiences in life and the choices we make can accelerate the process of maturation.

There are some sixth graders who have more sense than a person who has had forty years to live.
