Fortunately, the tiny group of people you know does not represent the millions of people worldwide who have this illness. I am a Christian, and I am a therapist who works in acute psychiatrics. I think its very narrow minded of you to try and attach mental illness to demon possessed, but its an easy trap to fall into.
Both healthy and unhealthy non christians can be demon influenced or possessed. And the best way you can help them is to not automatically think all mentally ill (esp those with Bipolar) are possessed. Some maybe some are not.
There are lots of people out there who genuinely need pharmacological treatment (meds) for mental illness, and others who don't.

The best thing you need to learn is not whether or not their demon possessed, what you need to learn is that no matter where they are in their recovery, they are made in Gods image and we need to treat them as such.

As a medical professional your insight is valuable. The Canadian and British Medical Models are somewhat similar. The US may be a bit different, or may allow much broader latitude for the individual Physician (within guidelines of course). Would you please give a brief explanation (or reference some layman's articles) on the Medical Model and how Diagnosis is conducted. Would you give a short explanation of the differences between the various Medical Models, and please include the Bio-Psycho-Social Model. Thank you.

PS send the bill to the government ... thanks ...

i do not say that they are possessed. maybe just oppressed. are you a christian, jw. and if you are, do you base your beliefs entirely on what can be proven by science, because if so, science has this uncanny way of trying to disprove the existence of anything divine and limit our understanding to the physical world. science cannot coexist with christianity.

and a little bit of personal background. i have been diagnosed with ptsd, ocd, major/psychotic depression, and social anxiety disorder. prayer works just fine for me. I tried medication for a long and it had adverse effects on my faith, by severing my spiritual link and it did little to improve my symptoms. The reason we depend on medication in modern times is because people have lost sight of God and their roots with the divine have been nearly destroyed. even physical trauma that requires aid from doctors and medicine could be cured if people could muster the faith required to do so and pray. sadly, that type of faith doesn't seem to exist anymore.
I have given up on Christianity because it never panned out for me. I have Asperger's Syndrome, Pervasive Developmental Disorder, and Tourette's Syndrome If prayer works for you then I'm happy you found something that works, but it does not mean it will work for me. I just get sick of other people putting down those who are disabled or mentally ill. I was bullied before in church because of my disability and yes I was called a retard (which contributed to me leaving Christianity. I just hate being treated as second class.

I bet Jesus hated being treated as second class too.. And I wasn't trying to belittle you or anything. I don't go around telling people they are possessed or anything like that either. I'm sorry to hear about your ailments and you being made fun of. I know how that is. I know what it's like to not be able to make friends because of stuff, and although I took a huge hit to my faith at times, it was really -the only- thing I had to keep me going. Without it, I don't think I would even be here to tell you about it now. I understand how cruel people can be and sharp the worlds teeth are trust me. But I think if anything should give you hope, it would be the power of faith in something greater to come. Life is shorter than people realize, so why not live for something so much greater than we can even begin to comprehend? And even with prayer, I struggle. I have ups and down, and the downs last a lot longer, and I even get mad at God when I know I shouldn't. But I do know I have something to look forward to. I think of life as a test. Some are tested much harder than others, and a lot will fail. There is strength in Jesus Christ and in the realization that all of this will be made right when the time comes.

So then what is the reason for your being on a Christian site?

You proved my point, I guess being a Christian is a prerequisite to joining this site. I just thought others would have tolerance here and not label people who have bipolar disorder and other mental illnesses as being possessed by demons. I thought wrong. I take it as christianchat.com is only a clubhouse for saved people only.

Don't let that dissuade you from being here. I don't know the commenters intentions behind the statement, whether they were being rude or not, but it came off as being a bit harsh to me as well. If you wanna talk, it doesn't even have to be christian related, then I will chat with ya.

personally I think everyone has a spiritual illness. its called sin.

it takes different forms and affects the mind and body differently but Sin is more of an illness then any mental or physical ailment anyone can suffer from.

The good news is that Jesus is the cure.

just because it happened to you in a church Shyness, doesn't mean it is from God. Pride and selfishness is an illness many people suffer. I ask you to forgive them if you are able. I am sorry you were hurt and belittled in the past. I hope that people on this site will not do so now or in the future.

Sometimes the faith of someone suffering from a physical ailment is so much brighter and stronger then those who are whole in body but lacking in Spirit. Remember that God does not see as men do or as the world does, but sees our hearts and hears our cries but only if we have humble and contrite hearts.

God did not speak to Job until he repented of his pride when he heard the rebuke of the young man Elihu.

Just read Job 32-37. it is all a rebuke of Job and the three "advisors" of their pride and false beliefs about God and His will.

I don't even know you, and can tell from your posts that you are definitely not "retarded". Yes, you have a disability. This means you have some challeneges that the "average Joe" may not have, but it does not make you second class.
There is actually another person on this forum who has Asperger's(will not say who it is), and many don't know it. This person is also a highly intelligent individual and most likely smarter than many of us on here. I admire this person alot. Not because of their disability, but for the fact that this person actually studies the bible, and will give biblical truth without forcing their opinion on others.

Anyway, I am sorry that other's have treated you poorly. That is bad of THEM. You are NOT second class.
I wish there was soemthing I could say to make you feel better, and say I understand your feelings. But I don't know enough about your disabilities to say a whole lot without me sounding ignorant.
All I can say is you are a beautiful creation. You may have more challenges than many, but one thing I learned from my parents(who are/were both blinded as children) is where someone has a disability they also have a strength. My father passed away, but mom is an amazing lady. She does not let her blindness limit her. Physically she is disabled. Spiritually she is not unless she chooses to be.
For anyone to look at your conditions and judges you contradicts the scriptures. Pray for those people.

Hey, i have an idea, why don't you completely twist my question into an insult that was never meant. Then accuse me of things opposite of what i've posted on the site. Then tell me i think things i've never said. And you're trying to put ME down?
You seemed to take a rather personal stance against Christianity, and i asked a simple, non-accusatory question. If you tried Christianity and think its so wrong, why are you on a Christian site? How is that being intolerant to ask a question? I asked because i didn't understand, NOT because i think only Christians belong on the site. It was just a question, if you read more into it, that's your problem, because there was nothing more implied or intended.
Also, if you had read my posts you'd see that i, and actually many others, don't believe bipolar = possession. I said the opposite. Its the minority that believe they are the same, yet here you are flaming me and accusing the majority of saying something they never said. In fact, i myself have battled the mental illness of depression and i explained that in an earlier post in this thread.
I saw nothing in this thread that stated or implied non-Christians aren't welcome on CC. Take off your hate filters, and start reading whats actually being said and stop looking for insults and accusations that aren't even there.

The thing is, tone of voice can't be read, so implications are made. Considering how she already seems so down, maybe making it clear that you weren't trying to be mean would have been a good idea. Your question wasn't even for me but I also took it the same way she did. It isn't really helping that you seem so defensive over a simple misunderstanding. I am not trying to step on any toes, I just don't think the attitude you are portraying is conductive to keeping someone around that may be searching. If she get's turned away, she may never find what she's looking for.

Okay. Couple things here. One. She never said she was bipolar. Two. When I was still unsaved, and even after I was saved, I was easily pushed away by what you called "bad christians". Three. She is here. Who cares for what reason she is here? The fact that she is here is a good thing because we as "good christians" may have a chance to impact her somehow. Four. The topic of this thread is irrelevant when it comes to speaking to a non-believer about Jesus, regardless of what she is saying. Do you remember what it was like before you got saved? Maybe you weren't the same as me, but I had a lot of bad stuff to say about christians, but those that lead me to Christ, did so with understanding and patience. That's not what I am seeing here at all.

Then lead on. It is some coaches that never raise their voice and win championships and some that scream all day long.
I guess I’m a screamer

One of my years of playing baseball, I had an extremely aggressive coach. He put a lot of pressure on us and screamed a lot. My dad put a stop to him screaming at me pretty quick :p

Not all people are the same my friend.

The spirit is hard to find. But when you find it in a person, you will see it like a blinding light. It doesnt have to have a cross round its neck or a bible in its hand.

God loves us all. That might even include the disheartened.

Wherefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven. For she loved much. But he to whom little is forgiven, loves little.

We are on even keel in God's eyes.

Turn to charity, to love and to God. He will restore your hope in men.

CC_bride if you had the gift of healing given you by the Holy Spirit as in 1 Cor 12, would you still need meds for healing? And what do you think of oil and faithful elder parayers for the permanant solution to all sickness in James 5? Is medicine as we know it from God? Is it mentioned in the Bible that doctors are from God? I know Peter wass one but after he joined Paul, Paul did all the healing. And Paul was a tent-maker. What medical institution did Jesus go too? Or John and Peter, how could they heal even there shaddow healed people.

Man my cousin is also a doctor and she would be out of a job if her father the elder had faith! Just thought I would mention it... ALL sickness mental physical and any other is healed by the faithful prayer of elders and oil... Read James 5. And if the elders does not work... try a doctor!

MAy the Lord have mercy on us!

First off I would like to say sorry for being mean / rude, because I'm not here to be mean. I'm hear to get answers BUT

I get a little frustrated when my original post says either they are not a Christian or find Christianity after being diagnosed, or have some strange version, then like 90 plus percent tell me I'm crazy but then you find out they don't accept Jesus or it was after the fact still making my observation correct.

So you have unbeliever telling me it's not a demon and I'm wrong. When they keep proving me right and we know a unbeliever doesn't believe in demons, they don't believe in GOD.

Also Jesus says they are walking in darkness.

BUT here's the bad thing -- We have Christians who are getting mad at me for just asking then pointing out that it seems my observation is right.
