I don't see a parallel to slavery we had in America -- people were kidnapped and sold all against their will.
Sin is by our will -- we knowingly enter into sin. Even as we see ourselves fall into bondage because of sin we do not withdraw ourselves. At any time we can set ourselves free from sin -- at any time we can be redeemed by Christ. Yet, we live in sin and make a covenant with death. No one forces this on us again it is by our own will. Nothing about that relates to the bondage placed upon humans in this country in history and through out the world to this day ( 2 million slaves in the world as I type)

I'm assuming you have spoken before you've read, please read first.

I do not believe we choose sin to be in sin before conversion. We are born into the kingdom of sin and remain there - a slave to sin, until we choose freedom in Jesus. At that point our allegiance is supposed to change to one of being a part of Jesus' and not the world's. Of course, in this culture - well, I am not sure people understand the concept of changing allegiance from the world to Jesus. At which point, yes, I agree they are willingly placing themselves back into bondage to the world and sin.

I really hate to sound cynical, but there have been alot of posts lately refering back to african slavery, now i by no means intend to diminish what happened, but in today's society, girls and women are kidnapped every day to be sold to prostitute rings, they are forced to suffer atrocities we could not even begin to imagine, and our little boys are sold to pedophiles. I really don't mean to derail this conversation, but slavery in our world is very real, and still happening today, yes before we came to Jesus we were slaves to sin, but praise be to God, we are now slaves to righteousness
