Now I may hurt some peoples feeling and I’m very sorry, but every person I have ever spoken to that has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder doesn’t accept Jesus as their lord and savior or didn’t before they were diagnosed or they have some crazy version of who Jesus is.
Can anyone help me out with this?
John 9:1-3

New King James Version (NKJV)

A Man Born Blind Receives Sight

9 Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. 2 And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
3 Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.

my question to you is who is born thinking they see and knowing who Jesus is and as a baby accepting Him as their Lord and savior, besides John the Baptist?

Was Saul/Paul with sight? any times when Peter not seeing clearly and actually rebuking Jesus? how about the men walking beside the ressurected Lord and not knowing who He was until what happened?

JESUS opened their EYES. mental illness is no different from any other physical ailment like blindness or not being able to walk. GOD is able to heal, but many do not like to hear what Jesus has to say...

My grace is enough...

2 Corinthians 12
8 Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. 9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

what the world counts as weakness it is because they do not see with spiritual eyes the strength that many with disablities live in FAITH and truth and love.

perhaps you can not see past the beam in your eye to see the light God has placed in their hearts. I know many people with mental illness that God heals and restores, but still struggles at times. its not the demons that we should be concerned with because God's angels will take care of the demons, but the damage the demons have done to the person's heart and soul and how we can help them heal and love and trust again. We are to help the PEOPLE who have been hurt.

demons torment anyone who is not protected by God. whether they are diagnosis mentally ill or completely sane it does not matter.

I believe in the power of prayer and anyone who is tormented by demons need only another with faith in Christ to pray over them and the demons flee. However the strongholds and lies remain in their mind and must be torn down and they need to learn God's laws and precept by going over the Bible and listening to the Holy Spirit.

For does not God say...

Isaiah 28
9 “Whom will he teach knowledge?
And whom will he make to understand the message?
Those just weaned from milk?
Those just drawn from the breasts?
10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept,
Line upon line, line upon line,
Here a little, there a little.”

11 For with stammering lips and another tongue
He will speak to this people,
12 To whom He said, “This is the rest with which
You may cause the weary to rest,”
And, “This is the refreshing”;

why would anyone make fun of one who stutters if they speak God's truth? why would supposed Christians ridicule anyone with a disablility? Are they not made by God?

Even if you believed that bipolar people had demons, why do you not cast them out?

do you tell them the Gospel if you think they have the "wrong" Jesus?

demons are not the only negative influence in the world.
there is the pride of life, lust of the eye and other worldly fleshly desires that causes people to sin.

I don't concern myself with demons because I think if we pray, God will answer. If we pray that the demons be removed, God will send His angels and get rid of them.

that does not mean all problems will be gone though, there is still the strongholds and lies the person believes that must be address but as for demons? why worry if they are there or not, just pray and trust God to take care of that part and pray and ask what He wants you to do about anything else.

Ariel -- I have met a few bipolar people and in conversation I found out they didn't accept Jesus. So I started question others and found they didn't either. Hold up let me rewind just a little. I found this out trying to share the gospel of Jesus with them.

After so many you have to say that can't just be coincidence. Then most in this thread has back that theory up – They don’t accept Jesus as lord and savior.

So you tell me. Is that not at least a little strange to you???

not really most of the people God sends us to don't accept Jesus as Lord and savior. that is why He sends us to share the gospel of Jesus with them. why would you have to do it with people who already believe?

Jesus said He came for the sick not the ones already well. why would He not send us to the same? does it matter what ails them? be it demons, mental illness or physical ailments? the gospel is that God loves them and sent Jesus to atone for their sins. for them to stop rebelling, repent and cry out to Jesus with humble and contrite hearts to be healed of their spiritual illness which is what should be more feared then the ones that destroy the body only.

Well if we had a way to poll all bipolar people to see if they accept Jesus or not and if they don't accept Jesus then we can start telling them that it's not medicine you need it's Jesus . We could base this on the study.

We could say look at this study of 1,000 or 10,000, 1 million, billion, bipolar people and the one factor that seems to in every case is a unbelief in Jesus. Have you ever thought about accepting Jesus as your lord and savior

damombomb -- sorry I left parts of your out -- so on one hand you said that all you can hear but then say these people don't make you run from GOD. I say it doesn't matter what anyone says.

NOTHING CAN RUN YOU AWAY FROM JESUS --- BUT --- YOUR OWN HEART

lol this made me laugh.

are you trying to convince people to accept Jesus with their intellect or with their hearts?

your study would not be very scientific and very biased and would convince no one to believe in Jesus.

it would be saying.... Look at this study of 1000 or 10000 etc. bipolar people who do not like to eat brussel sprouts and the one factor that seems to in every case is their lack of brussel sprouts in their diet. Have you ever thought of eating brussel sprouts?

sorry, but it doesn't work that way.

I know in your heart you are trying to share the gospel.

sometimes we just have to pray and love and trust God to show us how to do it HIS way and not make up things to convince the world to have faith.

don't you remember Faith is a gift from GOD?

we build upon the faith but we can't give it to others, only God can.

What I have found that works is a friend of mine who is mentally ill testify how Jesus has healed him and helped him live a normal life without drugs and how through prayer and the guidance of the Holy Spirit he has learned to cope with the voices and become a functioning person again.

What I have seen is people who were addicted to drugs become well again and overflowing with the love of Christ.

i think we all have sins and demons that torment us with our past and our mistakes and our shortcomings but God does not tell us to focus on them but on Standing for His truth and showing the light He has placed in our hearts to the world.

My wife and I wrote a little kids' play some years back, "Bobby the Bible Bear". The kids got too old to play woodland creatures and the Bear (a young man) decided to do it as a ministry for 16 years. Over 1000 kids accepted the Lord and received paw-print-stamped bibles from him in this time. He is the son of a Methodist minister, and very bi-polar, and must constantly be on meds. By their fruits you will know them...

Can you give your definition of "demon"? I know of about 5 different definitions, proposed by different theological positions at different times in history. That might be a step to answering this very difficult question.

Kenisyes -- A don't know this person, and I'm not saying he is not Christian, but I do say it is many false teachers, it is many that go to church every time the door is open but are not saved. We are or at least I believe we are living in the look warm church.
The question is do you know for sure he accepts Jesus.

Maybe that's why he is bipolar .. have you ever seen the movie creation ?? I believe that is what ate him up. he just didn't believe and it was eating him up. Maybe this kid grew up son of a minister and was supposed to believe so he has been living a lie and it's eating him up.

The thing is, tone of voice can't be read, so implications are made. Considering how she already seems so down, maybe making it clear that you weren't trying to be mean would have been a good idea. Your question wasn't even for me but I also took it the same way she did. It isn't really helping that you seem so defensive over a simple misunderstanding. I am not trying to step on any toes, I just don't think the attitude you are portraying is conductive to keeping someone around that may be searching. If she get's turned away, she may never find what she's looking for.
The tone of the question was nothing. I even verified with someone else about the wording and they said it was fine and that it was obvious that shyness was just loaded and ready for an excuse to go off on someone. So a simple, non-offensive question made an easy target to twist. Thats not my fault, my tone was fine, and i don't feel a need to 'make it clear' as it was already clear enough to someone not looking for an excuse.
And yes, i am defensive when words are put in my mouth, my words are twisted, i'm lied about and attacked. It happens like that.

Hey what disorder is this......

I know a man, he invited one of his best friends to come play DJ at his mansion. Then the friend comes and performs great, playing all the night and the party was great! All of a sudden the host pulls out a nine mill parabalum and start firing at the DJ. It was like he was this party host the one moment the next moment he was this Yellow belly jealous maniac shooting at his best mate. Is this bi-polar? If the answer is YES, then Saul was bi-polar. King Saul asked David to play at his party, and the next moment an EVIL SPIRIT FROM GOD was upon Saul and he hurled a spear at David.... See it is strange what these evil ones do and let us do, if we are suseptable! 1 Sam 19:9 and 1 Sam 18:10.

Is this bi-polar?
It's a description of (attempted) murder, not of any mental disorder. A single criminal action is definitely not enough to justify a diagnosis. People who don't have mental disorders can nevertheless engage in crimes of passion.

A person with bipolar disorder usually takes a period of no less than a week to cycle through emotional states and people that fast are relatively few and far between. It's more common to see less than one episode per year. A single outburst isn't really indicative of anything, no matter how violent.

Edit: checked the definition again.

That wad an awesome example, probably the best i have seen on this thread yet!! And saul went back and forth alot, one minute he wanted david dead, the next he was asking forgiveness, just to turn around and try to kill him again

I am new to the forum, great discussion here! While I didn't have a chance to go through the entire 20 pages of this question, however, may I know if we have arrived at a common understanding as to what is defined as "possessed by Demon"?

Was Hitler considered possessed by Demon? Are all mental illness patients possessed by Demon? Are seriel killers and rapers possessed by Demon?

Assume that we do not have a clear definition of what's meant by "possessed by Demon",
Given that our question/logic is: Are all bipolar patients/patients with mental illness possessed by demon?
As long as we find one patient that is not possessed by demon, then we can prove that not all bipolars/patients with mental illness are possessed by demon.

I know a faithful Christian that is bipolar. Due to his lack of a certain chemcial, he has bipolar and is required to take medications daily. However, since he is a Christian, he cannot be possessed by a demon, which I wanted to quote from a great website resource as support. At gotquestions.org - on the answer to the Question: "How do we distinguish a psychological disorder from demon possession?", it states:

.... "Second, we should be greatly encouraged to know that it is impossible for a Christian to be possessed by a demon. The believer is indwelt by the Holy Spirit of God who comes to reside in our hearts when we give our lives to Christ (2 Corinthians 1:22). The description of a possessing demon as “evil” means “unclean” in the Greek (Mark 5:2), therefore making it impossible for the Holy Spirit to share His dwelling place with such a creature. For those who do not have the Holy Spirit, however, no amount of “cleaning up their lives” will prevent a demon from possessing or influencing them. The parable Jesus told in Matthew 12:43 makes this clear:

“When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first.” Jesus is teaching here that we are incapable of sweeping and putting “in order” our own hearts because our hearts are “deceitful above all things and desperately wicked” (Jeremiah 17:9 KJV). Only God can regenerate us and create in us a new heart (Ezekiel 36:26) and make us new creatures in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17).

However, while Christians cannot be possessed by a demon, this is not to be confused with being influenced by one. The apostle Peter is an illustration of a believer who was influenced by the devil (Matthew 16:23). This can occur especially when we are not mature in the faith and not sufficiently involved in the spiritual disciplines of regular study of Scripture and prayer."

I think this is a great discussion. I hope this helps.

I am not going to say to much about bi-polar, becasue I do not know any person that are diagnosed as such. Also i think the mental state of a person is defenately MENTAL and that indicates it has something to do with the spirit in the person. Body is flesh, soul is in the blood and spirit is in control.
What I do know is this..... God said. He God, has NOTHING to do with demons or Satan. The righteouss has NOTHING to do with the unrighteouss...Christ, nothing with Balial, Light nothing wth darkness, and believer with infidel... nothing. 2 Cor 6:14.

Then there is the verse that says if we do clean a house... A possessed person are cleaned of the evil spirits, then we are to fill that house IMMEDIATELY with God's Truth, otherwise the spirit comes back with seven of his mates and that person is worse off than before... It says when the unclean spirit leaves a man he goes through waterless places seeking rest finding none, then he says he will go back where he comes from.... Luke 11 : 24 to 26...

How many people today can discern spirits? I cannot, and I am not even sure I can diagnose bi-polar, all I know, it is not what God wants. God does not want any person to be troubled in any way. Sickness is sickness, and mental, physical or spiritual sickness are all not of God's plan to keep. God has a solution and that solution is PERFECT health...Did Jesus not bare ALL the pains and disformation of EVERYBODY on the cross? Look what Jesus said about the blind man He healed... that man was mad blind so that GOD CAN BE GLORIFIED BY HIS HEALING! I tell you straight, we are to blame if any person remains sick, becasue we lack FATIH!

I am ashamed to say I lack faith to pray for my troubled neighbor. God please help me to be in YOUR WILL. AMEN!
