when it is said the future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam...it is saying that if you say anything against Mohammed then you are to have no future...which is a thinly veiled death threat...infact it is a call to murder those who say anything against Mohammed...this is not just an extremist view...it is a typical view and it is calling for gihad and your president is doing nothing to quell such a threat but rather in his actions he seems to support it

Slander in religion is a little different than slandering your neighbor

Every religion believes their way is the right way. IF I say that prophet of Islam was a false prophet what will the Muslim world think of me? Im lying. I am slandering their prophet.

In slandering an individual, the victim has to prove that their accuser(slanderer) is lying. In religion it isn't that easy. Especially in a court of law where religion is not allowed.

i think its simply a live and let live approach

SO just use the freedom of speech as a shield to demean and belittle others? that seems legit...

I'm not saying that's what people SHOULD do. I have the right to burn all the books I own. Sort of like how you have the right to fill your lungs with carcinogens, but it's not recommended.

If you rip that quote from its context, it sounds really bad.

All he's saying is that people of different beliefs shouldn't be jerks to each other, and we need to get along.

I'm fine with that overall message.

The future shouldn't belong to people who are just out to agitate each other.

That seemed to be the spirit of what he's getting at.

Although we should be free to speak against Islam and other non-Christian faiths all we want.

When I heard the "quote" at first, a few days ago, I was really offended at it.

But then I went and listened to the five minutes before the quote and the five minutes after it.

His main point is we need to quit agitating each other and get along.

Yeah it's the typical leftist message of tolerance, but it's not as bad as some would like us to think.

Although we should be free to speak against Islam and other non-Christian faiths all we want.

This is the problem. For a Christian to just speak of Jesus we are not speaking truthful of the Islam belief and vice versa. I just think this could lead to more issue than what we have now.

Yet when it comes to religious extremists even implementing a law won't stop terrorism. Those people are just plain nuts.

Is it slander to tell the truth? Don't islam's own books say that mhammad was a mass murdering, child doing, female prisoner abusing, self-admitted terrorist and thief ? Doesn’t the quran promote violence against those who refuse to accept Islam? Why would anyone choose to follow Muhammad alone, through his stand-alone 23 year 7th century blasphemous record that proclaims the EXACT OPPOSITE of the WHOLE SUBJECT of the Gospel? Wouldn’t one be better served following ALL of the prophets and witnesses, as revealed through the 1600 year record of YHVH to mankind, that His people have followed through two covenants for 3500 years

Actually the Koran does not promote violence to those who aren't Muslim. The Koran does say that they are to be peaceful, unless the enemy reacts first, and the Koran does say everyone is free to believe how they want and worship how they want AS LONG AS they agree live under Islamic rule.(abiding by their laws)

Yes, I have been reading the Koran, IF they are so much a threat I wanna know what to expect.

oh they are to be peaceful unless the enemy reacts fist...so then they can pretend that a person with down syndrome read the Koran and publicly burnt it and so react to that by slaying all christians....or pretend that a few christian boys burnt pages of the koran right outside the front of a mosque and so slay all christians

I never said they were rational.
There are extremists in every religon. The problem is the extremists are the ones you always hear about.
I do not agree with abiding by their laws though. They have some messed up rules.

Elizabeth...you can be so naive at times...the extremists are the ordinary muslim that has finally been unleashed because those things that were restraining them are now gone..America used to show its power to restrain islam but now you have a president who appears to venerate it...anyway, by all counts the extremist is now rapidly becoming the majority because islam is evil and so indefensible by christians

What makes you think I am defending Muslims? I have said I have read the Koran. Not google verses from hate websites.
If someone refuses to abide by the rules of Islam(which are pretty bad) then wrath will be set upon you by them.
Islam understands that people have their own individual minds and cannot make you worship something against your will, so saying we should "abide by their rules" is their way of control. Islam is a very controlling religion. We cannot deny that. With control comes violence because people will refused to submit to this.

Carolineh is a fear spreader like moment of faith tried to be. I wouldnt put much weight in her posts.

Actually the Koran does not promote violence to those who aren't Muslim.

No matter how they translate this, it is promoting violence directly to non-Muslims

Sura 8:12

SHAKIR: When your Lord revealed to the angels: I am with you, therefore make firm those who believe. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them

YUSUFALI: Remember thy Lord inspired the angels (with the message): "I am with you: give firmness to the Believers: I will instil terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers: smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them."

PICKTHAL: When thy Lord inspired the angels, (saying): I am with you. So make those who believe stand firm. I will throw fear into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Then smite the necks and smite of them each finger.

Many Muslims try and defend this passage to mean, "spiritually cut off the non believers heads", in the sense of refuting their beliefs. As for the finger tips, I dont know how they explain that.

Yet if you read the context in the 8th Sura before and after verse 12, and apply basic hermeneutics, there is no reason to interpret that passage as figurative. I am sure that it is good to think of it as figurative for those who want to be peaceful in Islam (and for the sakes of others), but this passage says what it says. Of course the extremists keep it literal.

It is kind of an eye for an eye thing.
They will chop your head off in a heartbeat.

In some Muslim countries if you steal they will cut off your hand.

Your right about that. It's good you read the Koran to better understand them. I did the something after 9/11. I started really looking closely at their religion, and I dont think your defending them in any way by not labeling them all as terrorists. A small percentage of them actually want to wage Jihad, or at least are active in doing so.

I will say the more I read it, I realize it is an evil book because of the stance it takes on Christians and the Son of God.

Satan loves the fact that millions who advocate Islam believe that Jesus was/is just a prophet, no different from Moses. The Koran slanders Christianity, and labels us as polytheists. Muhammad believed the "trinity" belief of Christians, consisted of Father, the Son, and Mary.

Of course Catholicism does not help to refute this by praying to Mary. If you take away Jesus as the Son, then you take away deity, they also believe he was not really crucified, and that God just made it appear that he was crucified. When you take that away, you take away blood atonement, the ONLY means to wash away sin.

So i feel it is a very evil book for those two reasons, taking away Jesus' deity, and taking away his sacrifice. Who would be behind such a teaching?

Elizabeth, I spoke to my husband about you reading the koran which actually the moslems take offense to it being spelt that way..they prefer quran...anyway, my husband is very wise and he said to tell you that the book you read were the writings of Mohammed when he was in Mecca and that was superceded by later writings that are far more extreme and violent so the writings you read are obsolete..I forget the official name he gave those newer writings and he is asleep at the moment so I cannot check with him but the muslims will follow the more recent writings rather than previous ones so their mentality is far more violent and prepared for gihad than some people realise..anyway...my husband did ask if you will do further research by checking out a site called Worldview weekend and the host is a fellow whose last name is Pinto but I forget his first name and I cannot check with my husband at the moment as he is still slumbering...he is an American and he keeps up with all the current news..as far as instilling fear in people I am such an amateur compared to all the prophets in the bible but thanks for the compliment anyway that fellow who said to disregard what I have to say..rather rude and ignorant of him I thought

Please tell me where I said they were not violent. I am pretty sure I just recently stated they will chop your head off in a heartbeat. If that isn't calling them violent I don't know what is.

I am not defending Muslims. I am not saying they are good people. What I said is they want to rule under THEIR laws, and if you do not abide then there is trouble. So WHY you want to continue acting as if I am defending them I do not know. I'm done with it though.
