this is a question that i have struggled with , when is it okay to divorce. i was raised never to divorce because i was taught it is a sin, but i can't imagine that God would not want you to get out of a miserable situation and to find and marry the person that was really meant for you. we often make mistakes and sometimes you realize it later in the marriage, and you stay to keep trying to make it work but you realize that you see that person as a stranger someone you no longer know or you did not grow together , your going into different paths in life, or you have become stronger more independent , let's face it sometimes that person you married you don't want anything to happen to them , you love them as your children's parent but not as a partner, sometimes when they want to try and save the marriage , you are worn out for keeping the marriage together. when is divorce okay ? is divorce a sin ?

*please provide scriptural answer *

Thank you for what i know will be great answers

Maybe this will help:

[31] "It was also said, `Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.'
[32] But I say to you that every one who divorces his wife, except on the ground of unchastity, makes her an adulteress; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery. Matt 5:31-32 RSV

Perhaps I could express my opinion on this subject:

In accordance with the Scripture I quoted in my previous post, I believe it would be a sin for a woman to divorce her husband and marry another, unless he has been guilty of unchasity.

If he has not been guilty of unchastity, I don’t personally see that it is a sin for her to divorce him, but I do think it is a sin for her to have intimate relations with another man.

i felt that if he is the one to commit adultery that it was okay, but what if you chose to stay with him and later realize i wish i hadn't stayed , did you blow your chance at a new life without him without committing a sin by divorcing him.

or

you just realize that you have spent your life making this person happy and life happens where you see the person for who they really are and that your staying for the sake of having a mother and father in the picture , no matter what you hope your dreams are to be somewhere else not because there is a lover on the side, you have no desire for that person to touch at all, your heart and soul wants out

then what ??

looking forward to your responses Thanks

I am not going to quote scripture so ... here goes anyway.

I think if your partner has committed adultery, and you have tried to make it work, it is still adultery. I don't think that distinction is made in scripture. I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, but this is my interpretation.

Maybe I haven't been paying attention, but is there a significant increase in divorce and marital difficulties in the last five years? I empathize with you.

Prayers sent for you.

We are getting into something very deep and important, so I am hesitant to express an opinion, since I might not be wise enough to give good advice.

I don’t have all the facts, but it sounds like you have one or more children, and part of the reason you stayed with your husband was for their sake. That was noble.

If your husband committed unchastity, I would think you are free to divorce him anytime you wish. I don’t think there is “statute of limitations.”

i asked the question of divorce because it's something that i wasn't sure about and i often hear people talking about it like it's nothing, it also seems like people get married for convenience without really thinking about it because there's always the easy way out divorce,

for me i have been married for over 20 years through good , the bad and the truly ugly ..something that's very hard to do, i normally don't tell people to divorce or to give up but you never know what people that you encounter daily go through.

often at work there was a young lady around my oldest daughter's age tolerating so much nonsense from her son's father and i remember telling her at that time she was thinking of one day marrying him and only because she came to me and wanted advice from someone that would be honest about her situation . i told her to think twice about him ., although your heart wants this relationship so bad that you are ignoring the signs of a abusive relationship , and your ignoring the fact that he has another child while you were together so he has already told and showed you who he is , so it's up to you to believe . , but never use the son against him, well after she made her rounds to several coworkers male and female who told her the same thing, she stayed and the drama continued... so know i tell her nothing about advice
people often want advice so you can agree with them , we all felt like idiots when he drove her to work

*through the years there were times when i wanted to leave and either divorce or just live separately but i didn't because i took the vows serious

thanks for your response

What about domestic, mental or emotional abuse that is a form of Spiritual Unfaithfullness/Adultry to me personally spiritually within the beliefs of my spiritual church faith tradition........

Matthew 22:30, For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. Marriage is carnal and endowed upon us at the time of creation to multiply upon the earth. Due to human hardness of heart Moses allowed people to divorce. Though Jesus says it was not this way from the beginning. If a person has exhausted their virtues and can find no way of reconciling differences then divorce is the ultimate in final decisions. If divorce is a sin, which I personally don't think it is, then be at rest knowing that Jesus died to forgive ALL sins. It is now and has always been impossible to live up to Spiritual righteousness. If a person must divorce, endeavor to make the divorce as peaceful as possible.
