Same here, its been my experience if I have been having a bad day or whatever and someone asks me 'how are you' and I reply 'not good..reason', it sets people off track a bit. Its like they get stunned, and don't know how to reply because you aren't following the social norm  And depending on the person, they might become all awkward, and try to get out of the convo asap. Doesn't happen all the time, but its just an observation. I think some people like to think of themselves as good listeners, when really they lack any sort of empathy. I can sense inauthenticity from a mile away, half way through the convo, I usually give up because I know they aren't really listening and I'm wasting my breath

Yeah... I've been working on answering this question a bit more honestly than previously.

I find answering ok a good response sometimes, given I normally say 'good' if I don't know the person well it gives them a chance to ask if they actually want to know or just move on otherwise.

But yeah. I don't think breaking down crying when someone asks you this is necessarily a good idea, however, I do think we should be honest - I mean the bible is pretty clear on lying.

I agree with Julliana, tact - you can be honest without making it super awkward (most of the time).

Interesting Sangelina... Interesting.

Be yourself and who cares.
Because people are like dogs, they sniff each other out.
And they can sense your sensing them trying to see if your real.
Yea, the majority are fooled by pretense.
Those see someone being real and they almost take it as being rude.
So what.
Reality, (I've found, always wins in the end), because our souls long for truth.

Oh yeah, I hope I didn't come across like that I breakdown and share too much or anything lol. Discernment, sensibility and tact is necessary.

^^ Poptarts instead of twinkies? Excellent taste you have. :D

In regards to the OP... interesting observation. I think a desire to see the best in everyone can sometimes get in our own way, and make us think the flatterer is just trying to be nice. But fake people don't tend to keep up the facade for very long, at least in my experience.
