A man gets a divorce and then marries someone else.
According to the bible thats adultery

Eventually the 2nd wife dies and that leaves him as a widower
Is he free to remarry considering that he was divorced in the first place?

Would like your view on this :)
 
I listed all the scriptures last week in another thread, but let's remember Jesus advanced this statement as part of a legal discussion about OT law. Acts 15:28-29 and I Cor. 7:2 give a totally different picture about what is expected in the NT life. The people who wrote "no greater burden" were Jesus' 12 and they were there when He said this. I Cor. 7:15 and 9:5 tell us what kind of mate we are supposed to have, and help understand why these divorces happen so much. And notice that there is no statement or implication anywhere in the Bible that marriage is a ceremony in front of a priest, prophet, minister, or judge, or any kind of person in authority.

There is so much more we need to pray through to get to what the Holy Spirit wants us to know about marriage, before we can even address such issues. How many centuries were people forced to believe the pope that the sun went around the earth, or thought they were on their way to hell because a priest wasn't present for them to confess their sins to, when they died in battle?
 
Twinkle, I will try to find it, but I do remember somewhere reading a teacher of scripture saying there was a difference
between legal divorce and "putting away" in some of the verses that speak to divorce.
He was saying it was the "putting away" (in other words, leaving a wife and remarrying--bigamy) that God hated.

Of course, God would hate divorce, since it harms His children, and any others caught in the crossfire.
And due to the marriage covenant He had with the nation of Israel, and has with us.

If you like I'll try to find that teaching.
Not saying it's truth, but it was an idea I hadn't heard. (and no, he wasn't divorced. ;) )

I commend you for careful diligence. I like the "Covenant" and "Marriage without Regrets" inductive bible studies which are very good instruction in this.
 
Are you Catholic?

No, then don't worry. Other Christian faiths have been created because a second marriage was considered not acceptable to the bible. Join the church of England if you must.
