As you can see, they were into a lot more than "crappy junk food" as you put it.
I actually buy none of those companies products...and besides 18000 out of over 3 million? i cant possibly be expected to care about every individual problem in this nation
you wont find any twinkies in the stores, people snapped them up up and are getting huge profits from them online, they wont go anywhere, as popular as they are the rights to make them will be sold to someone else and they will be back. It's not rocket science to make them.
You malformed what I wrote to fit a strawman you constructed. So I'll elaborate. Obviously 18,000 people losing their jobs in the worst domestic labor market since the Great Depression is serious. But I was alluding that the problem is even worse... that there are underlying economic and political problems in our nation that transcend Hostess Brands, Inc. going completely out of business.
Let me give you one of them as an example. One of those is massive government spending on non-essentials. We are running more than a $1 trillion dollar deficit each year now. When you convert all comparisons to real dollars (adjusted for inflation), no nation in history has matched a deficit like we are incurring. Not in antiquity, not in the age of discovery, the industrial era, the modern era, etc... has any nation ever incurred so much debt so fast (in real dollars).
49% of Americans get money from the government now. There are 23 million government workers. Corporate welfare is through the roof. Here's a good article outlining the problem with support: The Number One Reason Americans Vote For The Democratic Party ~ Help Fix America First
If we keep the pedal to the metal, the car is going to crash. That's the bottom line. There really is a fiscal cliff looming and if we soar off it at 100 mph, we're going directly into a Great Depression.
And that's only one of several major economic/political problems that have to be solved if we are going to reverse the direction we are heading in.
So excuse me if I offended you in suggesting that we stop taking tax money away from Americans to spend on big bird and a million and one other non-essential government giveaways and concentrate on fixing the very serious problems that are causing companies of all sizes that don't offshore their jobs overseas (like Hostess) to go out of business.
And for the record, yes I know what those problems are and yes I know how to fix them.
Unions and the lack of sugar tarriffs killed Hostess. The modern liberals used tax dollars to save Big Bird but stood by while unions and free trade killed the Twinkie. 18,000 people lost their jobs, but Big Bird is safe. Good job Democrats. But then modern liberals can use Big Bird to shape young minds with their political correct nonsense while less people working means more people beholden to government handouts that must vote Democrat to keep the handouts coming. It's a perfect circle. The problem is that it's a vicious circle and if you keep drawing that circle it eventually crashes in an uber tragic manner for about 150 million Americans.
You don't know what I propose RickyZ. You've never asked me and I've never told you. It seems premature of you to state that someone else's proposals cannot work without ever hearing them.
I can appreciate that you have your own beliefs; however, if one of them is that the U.S. economy can not be fixed then I certainly do disagree with you.
The U.S. economy can be fixed. And, I assert that I am qualified and know how to fix it. Whether it is fixed or not remains to be seen.
Very good and very revealing. I would like to add that any bailout of a company that produces a product like this one would never be encouraged or condoned when Michelle Obama is making her drive against obesity and all those foods that contribute to that epidemic. I guess if this company was not responsible for their success then perhaps they should not be responsible for their own bankruptcy, if you know what I mean.
I don't believe government should be involved in the bailout business but they certainly have their own agenda under this administration and is it has it favorites. Voted this man back into office does reveal the mindset of so many in this country being driven by fear and insecurity instead of hope and optimism and how much it really depends on government for all of its welfare needs. For us to ever get back to being a self indigenous republic of people that stops looking for handouts, it is going to take a cataclysmic event that reduces us to nothing and makes us see as a people the error of our way. Can that happen? I hope so, but in the mean time we don't have to contribute by succumbing to that mentality of entitlements and taking the path of wanting something for nothing.
lol the current president won because people want welfare handouts & entitlements? I thought it was because the other guy flipped flopped and had horrible foreign & domestic policies. lol
