Is is okay for Christians to drink alcohol

I have been drunk before, but i only do it at home, But I only drink enough to relieve stress and pain and relax, I have gotten really drunk but I go no where and stay home and then fall alseep.

I still think it is wrong to getting drunk even if you are alone, this might become a habit for you later on, as well as becoming an addiction.

Someone I know of did said that whenever she felt real upset with God, if she would have had wine in her appartment she would have drunk for her own comfort. Although she has also wanted to drink as an form of rebellion against God.

I think there shouldn't be any excuse to getting drunk, as it will never do you anything good. And although you are alone home and you might never do anything foolish since you already are stuck in your own home, it will still be seen by God.

I've heard it's okay to drink some alcohol, but that getting drunk is a sin, and excessive. For me personally, though, I don't understand the point of drinking if you don't get something out of it (it doesn't taste good), no matter how light. Is it a sin to drink 2-4 Smirnoffs or beers, which would provide a buzz, but not a drunken excess? What is acceptable and what is not?

You serve a God who turned water into wine and you have to ask this question...

Within scripture this question is obvious, our culture has corrupted the simple Gospel so much.


But as to excess, that is something you should be able to notice and measure, your body will tell you when to stop if you don't just ignore it. There can be no set rule for this though as people metabolize alcohol differently. I can drink quite a bit more than what many people can drink without being affected because of my build and body-type. Some people get to their limit after a single drink.

When having it with meals and such it usually affects you less than having it alone (such as going out drinking or something silly like that) so a drink with a meal is usually not a bad idea.

I desire a high that is Holy Spirit induced at least i am under Holy influence what relief! Comfort so i do not second guessing if i am a witness or if any unclean unholy spirit enters in an unlocked door in my soul or spirit or body!

I suppose once you come to a place where you are more confident in your faith you will not have such concerns.. You must be quite new to fear unclean spirits entering you. With the Holy Spirit and understanding you can do these things with no such fear.

Not only does it say in ephesians 5:18 to not be drunk with wine,wherein is excess..it also says in 1 corinthians 8 to not use our freedoms as a cause for our brother to stumble..
in 1 corinthians 10,and in other places it says..all things are permitted..but not all things are beneficial. So while some may accuse you of adding to the word, they merely want to hold onto a freedom..that i do not deny they have..but is holding onto this freedom helpfull or possibly hurtfull to the body? And if it is possibly hurtfull to oneself or to the body..or to even your witness, why would you choose to hold onto this unnecessary thing any longer?

simply abstain from alcohol..once you do..after a few weeks..you find you do not even really crave it anymore..

If you have come to a point where you crave it in the first place you may have gone to far with it.
Moderate alcohol consumption is well knowen to be helpful to the body, and there is no need to deny oneself any good thing.

The bible says if your right eye offends you pluck it out and cast it from you, so if alcohol causes you or someone else to stumble, quit it. A believer ought to do away with anything that takes their focus away from Jesus and anything that will tarnish their witness.

Unfortunately some people pull out the 'legalism card' when one advocate abstinence from alcoholic beverages however I believe it is wisdom, not legalism. Alcohol can impair one's judgment and make them behave irrationally that's why King Solomon said this: Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise (Prov 20:1).

Because many Christians don't fear the devil around every corner. They also understand temperance, which is not the same as abstinence.

so Paul was wrong to use the words temperance and intemperance? this is exactly what i was talking about earlier. you are saying that Paul shoud be corrected, that what he really should have said was abstanance. adding to God's word to back up your agenda is so wrong.

There is nothing wrong with drinking. Don't let it trap you. If you have trouble with drink, don't drink.

I drink a glass of scotch with lunch now and then. I smoke cigarettes, too. Never struck me as something a Puritan needed to worry about. Transcendentalists, maybe, but that's making a neuroses out of piety.

Is it possible for something to be a sin for some but not for others? Some believe God has told them to abstain, so for them drinking would be a sin. But for others God has allowed moderation. So drinking (within limits) would not be a sin for them. ???

amen..I not only used to drink....I at even one time was even a smoker..but i realized how unhealthy it is, how it ruins my witness,its expensive,gross and not a habit worth keeping..anyways who can afford to smoke these days? i am used to being labeled a legalist...folks do not know why i choose to abstain..but i at one time allowed myself to have anything that i wanted..now that i encountered a Holy God, i cannot live that way anymore

I personally do not drink - not because I necessarily believe it's wrong - but more due to the fact I don't want to take the chance that I might become addicted to it, as it's a real possibility when alcohol is involved.

I don't believe it's a sin in moderation.

First, wine in the Bible sometimes refers to regular juice. I think the intent of why someone is drinking has been overlooked. Drinking to cause you to act differently or escape your current reality, might be sinful. I enjoy a beer every now and then because nothing seems quite as refreshing on a hot summer day working in the yard. As well my mind never stops thinking. I find when I'm with friends it slows my mind down a bit so I can be "all there" instead of my mind spinning somewhere else. It helps me enjoy the moment.

I have personally never known anything good that resulted from drinking. On the other hand, I do know a lot of negative consequences that resulted from drinking.
