Descyple and Nuke's comments about shopping habits in another thread reminded me of something strange I noticed over the weekend. I went shopping with a friend and waited for her to come out of the restroom at one of the stores for a looooooong time. While I was waiting I noticed that women would come in and grab a cart and guys would grab one of those small baskets with handles. Is that a thing with guys or what?????

I ponder very bizarre things. Indulge me. :D

While I'm being nosey, what would I normally see in your grocery cart? :)

I usually try to carry everything with my hands, and then when I realize I still have 5 items left on my list (which is hard to look at when I'm carrying everything) I'll break down and get a basket. I don't usually get a cart unless I have a ton of shopping to do.

I'm also one of those people who will try to bring in all the bags into the house in one trip. Sometimes I can look quite ridiculous. :D

Hands all the way. Lol I just carry it in my arms until I have to get a basket. I never really need a cart. Interesting question though.

I grab a basket as well. I park on one of the upper floors of a garage and once I get in my apartment building I have to go UP a few flights to my apartment. I'm not unloading and carrying a cart full of anything.

My food staples...yogurt, cheese, eggs, meat, rice, beans. I usually just buy veggies/fruit as I need/crave them... I find that if I buy a lot of food in advance, it'll just spoil.

Why push around a cart that has a high probability of being a dud when you can just carry it all? Besides what's better than shopping and getting a great workout at the same time? Plus if you use a basket it's been shown that you spend less money....I'll let you come to your own conclusions about that. :)

The only time I get a cart is if I am in a crazy mood. *grins*

*checks for mom*
Items found in my possession at the grocery store:
Soda, Fudge mint cookies, Snapple, cheez-its, chips. ;)

My basket at target has a lot more variety...my last trip, according to my receipt, consisted of hand soap, birthday card, fabric softener, scrapbook paper, chocolate, little boys t-shirt, little boy socks, powerstrip, picture frame, 2013 organizer, rice, hummus, cheap sangria, whale crackers, fruit gummies.

I don't take a cart at target...I'd do too much damage. :D

Tables turned on you, Jullianna-- what would I normally find in YOUR cart/basket?

Actually, depending on what I'm doing, I sometimes grab the basket, and sometimes the cart. Mega grocery shopping days, yep definitely the cart. But if it's for only a few things, why grab it? I've also seen other women grab baskets instead of carts. So I guess it's not really a guy thing.

As for what would be in my cart, whatever fruit and veggies hit my mood for the day (bananas always), maybe some baking stuff, meats, breads, frozen meals, DP (sigh, I will break this addiction. I will), and maybe chips, goodies. Who knows, it really depends on what I need to get.

I do a lot of small shops so I tend to get a basket... only time I really do a trolley (aussie word for cart :P) is when I'm doing a big shop, typically at Aldi.

I think men tend to like to spend less time in the shops as well? Certainly the same for everyone but as a trend.

Jullianna, it's funny that you said in your experience you usually see the women go for the carts and the men go for the baskets, because I am actually the opposite. I much rather prefer a cart instead of a basket. I prefer a cart, because even at my age I like to give the cart a hard push and then quickly put my feet on the back and "ride like the wind" down the produce isle - lol. And I always feel uncomfortable with baskets, because I fee like Red Riding Hood walking around with one of those things and that I should be skipping through the store!!!

The only time I ever use a basket is at the Dollar Store, but that is because baskets is all they have. But I am going to write a petition to my Mayor to get him to order mandatory carts for all Dollar Stores across Canada, because there is always SO MUCH STUFF to buy at Dollar Stores (which I refer to as "Retail Heaven" - lol).

By the way, if any of you saw me walking out of a Walmart with a mannequin sticking out of my cart, would y'all think I was strange??? Just wondering!!!

Ok, I don't remember where I heard this but I heard it a long time ago and I think its true. They say that when most men go to a store they just want to grab what they need and leave. They want the experience to go by as quickly and smoothly as possible. So with that in mind it makes sense that they only grab a basket because they don't want anything more than what they came in for.

I think most women on the other hand, love to make shopping an experience. I think they have a sort of "kids in a candy store" mentality about shopping. They want to see what's new and what specials they might be missing out on. I think most guys aren't like that unless they are in a big electronics store or something.

As long as you don't drop it all, I'm sure you're fine! :)

Exactly. I go to the store for three items and may walk out with four. Baskets for me...
It's also a spending control. If I go to a buffet and grab a small salad plate, I can load it to the ceiling and still not have much food. However, if I grab an empty serving tray and head through the buffet line, I'll be miserable a few hours later.
If I grab a cart, I'm more likely to get home and wonder why I left home to go buy shampoo and ended up with a three-foot-long receipt.

There's also the driving/traffic issue. If I snag a small basket, I can weave through traffic a lot better than if I am driving an SUV, I mean a cart. Ever gone down the soup aisle with a cart? There's 401,785 different kinds of soup, and, on average, 202 people with carts staring blankly for hours trying to find the specific soup they want. I don't want to be #203.

I don't like baskets or carts. I try and carry everything.

Normally i buy Broccoli, cauliflower, apples pineapples, humus, cheese, almonds, pepperoni, advantage protein shakes, organic chicken, cherry coke zero, dark chocolate, sweet potatoes, bananas, yogurt, granola, oatmeal..stuff like that.

I just go in empty handed find a single woman with a cart, say ''Hey can I put a few things in there since you are headed to the front'' and that my friends is how I get so many dates!

Fruit, veggies, meat, herbs and spices, condiments, spreadings, juice or soft-drink, milk, bread, pasta, curries, chips, maybe some lollies.

I love curry! There is a particular brand of curry powder I order online from a spice shop in Dallas. It's so strong that it will slap you in the face when you open my spice cabinet :)

Hellooo: Tables turned on you, Jullianna-- what would I normally find in YOUR cart/basket?

My must haves: strawberries, pineapple, grapes, Cheezits, Dr Pepper and beef jerky :D And gummy bears when I can find my favorite kind. I'm picky! haha

Best gummies EVER!!!
