Seven years of being owned and beaten......well I guess that doesn't sound all that bad.
Also slavery was common back in that day. Slavery was used when a person could not pay off a debt. Then he would be enslaved until the debt was paid off.
Then there was another type of slave called "Bond Servant". This is a slave who has decided to stay with his master for life and he does so voluntarily by allowing to have his ear pierced on the door of the temple. You seem to think that slavery in the bible was monstrous, but here we see the opposite. A slave willingly becoming a bond slave for life! Why would he do this if slavery was so bad?
