You can't make this stuff up.

Think about this folks. Jesus' earthly mother was a pregnant unmarried Mother (to be) when she married Joseph.

Do you really think that the Lord wouldn't want people to show mercy on this sinner?

What's the point of teaching Christianity if you can't be Christian about these things?

This is shameful.

She signed it. If she didn't agree she shouldn't have signed. Its a job just like any other job you can't do certain things and if you break the rules you will pay the price. I know its sad she has no job now but honestly she shouldn't have signed it if she couldn't follow through with the type of lifestyle the school asks their staff to follow. You're not banned forever anyway you just can't work there for the time being. I'm sure this is not the first time its ever happened but now more than ever religioues communities are being judged by the world. So if we decide to follow through with living as a Christian or not its our personal choice. As Christians we are examples as well and what we do affects other's faith especially in a school that is meant to separate itself from worldly values.

I respect that the school supports their values well enough to fire her. If there is any real harm done against this teacher other teachers and students will speak out. Its not a secret club or cult and its common that college students share what happens within their school communities. Being a Christian college I expect there to be some difference in their employees, students, and events. So the fact that this happened does not make me happy or sad it just makes me aware. The world is sensitive to being told how to live their life and this school will probably get bad points against it for supporting its values.

Honestly though: If you decide to work in a place that asks you to follow their guidelines or accept disciplinary action what would you expect to happen if you don't follow through with what you signed?

no because Jesus wouldn't have hired her in the first place

He might have placed her in a different position (not over children who might copy her bad example)

or told her not to have sex with the guy because he had no plans on marrying her.

I think, by firing her, they are being a bad Christian example.

Pregnant unmarried mothers need jobs too. The article said the same school offered her now-husband a job position, even though they knew he had premarital sex too.

Seems unfair.

Rules are rules and if you break them then what else are they suppose to do? That is like saying the Christian school hired a teacher who took money that was raised for the very kids that teacher taught. So they felt sorry for the thief and decided to not fire him/her.
Btw, "Jesus," would know who he is hiring and putting in charge so no mercy is necessary.

We can ask What Would Jesus Do all we want, but the fact is, we don't have a clue what Jesus would do. Jesus actually know's our thoughts, our motives, and everything else. Any judgments he makes will be perfect. We however know none of that, and that is why we are not called to judge, because we'd be horrible at it. We would be taken in and deceived by deceptive behavior. Just look at the justice system, how many innocent people are wrongly accused?

I can agree with TosinAsLeader, rules are rules. She knew them, she broke them, it only makes sense that she pays the consequences. If one person gets away with breaking a rule, and they know full well they're breaking a rule, then what's the point in even having them in place. That doesn't necessarily mean I agree with the punishment. But again. The rule was there, she knew it was, and broke it anyway fully aware of the consequences.

I have some mixed feelings about this. I agree she signed it, and she is to set and example and when rules are broken there are consequences.
But this was also in the article: "After James lost her job, she claims the school offered a position to her now-husband, even though they were aware he'd had sex before getting married, too." Why was she punished but he was welcome?

I missed this when Relena posted (sorry Relena!), but yes I agree that is hypocritical.

It is absolutely unfair to offer him a job after firing her, although note that she claimed it happened, there's no evidence.

My girlfriend helped me :) : The woman caught in adultery in verse 3 had not known Jesus before this verse.

This woman is fired from work not being stoned to death. When you do not follow business rules and sign on that you will expect to receive some sort of punishment.

Do you find this Biblical, David? "But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;" Sounds Biblical to me.

I met a girl when I was in 10th grade. Nobody in our class knew her and I befriended her to make her feel welcome. After talking to her a little bit I found out that she was going to a private Christian school in the area and got kicked out of school for being pregnant. She was a junior so she had to finish up her time in a public school. She was engaged to be married as well. I thought it was pretty messed up that they kicked her out just for that.

Perhaps instead of firing the woman, the school could have said: Sin no more.

that contract seems pretty strict especially for someone teaching adults in a college. Like no alcohol at all? that isnt even biblical but some manmade rule.
