found money what would you do???

i have a coworker that have gone out of her way to bad mouth me, she is negative basically today at work i found her money on the floor, after checking between two people i gave it to one person, but she came up minutes later and turns out it was actually hers, i found the man i gave it to and told her she's lucky that i'm honest this is the second time i have found money on the floor and returned it to her and then later she left her fancy cell phone in a chair and i mentioned it and her friend picked it up and gave it to her
**i actually don't like her but i try to get along with others

each time i found her money on the floor she was very happy and relieved because our other coworkers would not be so kind and
honest

what would you have done or how would you have handle the situation ?

**even if you don't like the person would you return it??

Well i have found money before and returned it, but i didn't know the person. But if it was a person i didn't like i assume i would but until you deal with it in real life you never know. Its easy to say something but doing it is another story

The difference between right and wrong stays the same whether I like the person or not. I know my conscience would bug me for a long time if I kept money that didn't belong to me. I'd return it no matter who it belonged to.

(I'd only keep it if I found it unattended and there was no possible way of finding out who was the owner).

I find money all the time; it's in my checking account.

"Finders keepers" is akin to stealing IMO. Good of you to return it. :)

don't take for those not yours even though it's only 10 cents.
If you don't like the person, just give it to people who deserve to give it back to him/her.

While there may be the temptation to take something that's not yours, I still wouldn't do it.

Would have done exactly what you did, for this is what we are called to in Jesus.

Thanks for your honest responses, as we already know it is very challenging at times to be so kind to to some people , and there are situations that you have no way of finding the rightful owner, but if inside of the building i always somehow find the right person or just turn it into the office

but the response to this question with friends/family has been very entertaining


i hope to get more responses it's nice meeting people and their thoughts

I found 10 dollars outside of gas station a while back. I asked the people in the area if it was theirs and they said no. I kept the money and gave half of it at church. the reason I did not go into the store and give the money to the person working there was they most likely would have just put in there pocket.

Some people say, "Finders keepers, losers weepers," but if something is not yours to take, you should not take it. That is what we call stealing, it does not matter if you find some catchy way of trying to justify it.

If you find money and know it belongs to someone, you need to give it back. It's stealing if you don't give it back. It gets trickier if you don't know who it belongs to, then you need to discern what do to with it.

Well, money found sure belongs to somebody, and if you dont know who the owner is, they most likely belongs to the Lord, and should be given to Him directly.

if i know whose money it is then sure ill return it. If im walking down the street or through a mall and find cash...well its mine now

One time I found a $20 bill laying in the pew of a church I was visiting. I was the only one in that pew. I didn't really know what to do with it, so I just put it in the offering plate whenever it got passed around. I don't know if that was right or not, but I figured it was better than keeping it.

If I know whose it is or if it's in the vicinity of people, I may ask around. But if it's just laying on the ground and there's no one around, there really is no way to trace it to who it is unless that person comes back looking for it, in which case is it better to take it or just leave it there?

I think the example you have from in a church is a good response. As for out in the open with no one around Im saying its fair game.

It sounds like God has given you a lot of opportunities to show her love, so it's good that you seem to have tried to do that. Do you think if the roles were reversed, she would return your money? I'm just being nosy; how SHE would act doesn't change how you should act.

Anyway, yeah, "found money" always comes from somewhere, and if that somewhere wasn't your own pocket (wallet, purse, whatever), then it's not yours and should be returned if possible. Even if the owner of it is horrible. Or maybe especially if the owner of it is horrible, because then you can feel really good that you were nice to someone who didn't deserve it (kidding, kidding).

I found money and given it back many times. But I also heard of people who prayed for God to help them when in dire need due to financial need and then immediatly recieved an annonomous amount of money in the mail for the exact amount of money down to the penny of the bill or payment they needed that they asked God for... I also heard of people going to their bank after such prayers and found that in their account, there had been again received an anonomous amount that covered the prayer request to the exact penny... Yet the teller nor the bank had offered any info on the actual person that made that transaction...?

What i am trying to say is, God works in many ways, and i have been the reciepient of many... Not persay in the ways mentioned above, but i know those at my church who have. God is a big God and can do anything! Sometimes if God wants to bless someone He will use what ever way He chooses and many times we in our small and religous minds, (can if we get too legalistic about how one should only respond to money), loose out on blessings God has for us and thus we can miss opportunities to bless others as well. This is because we are too close minded putting God in a box not realizing God works out of love and in this love He will do for us as any parent will... I am not saying God always does these things.. I am just saying, we need to be careful not to tell others if you dont do things MY WAY, the way i did it, then its not right.. For God only works in His way... He is full of surprises and excitement and His blessings come in many shapes and forms! Each person needs to have disernment for themselves what God is showing them to do in their own circumstance.

I agree that all found money should have the proper edequate in place to find the rightful owner. But when that is done and they are still not found, from there is when then discernment needs to start and God will direct each on what to do there on...
