For the record though, I didn't make this as anti-gay post. I made this as a "Christian" is no longer a good term since its so polluted with secular people and actions post. The homosexuality was just an example of one of the reasons I'm fed up with that word/term/label. I could have chosen drunkness, adultery, abortion or all of the above to get my opinion across.

It breaks my heart that when one says that God is love so how can the love of homosexuality be wrong.
Too often we see the love of the world as God's love.
When the love of God is so much greater and perfect than any love of the world could ever be, and one could spend an eternity reciving His love.
To say that the worldly love that is sin, is ok, is to condemn that person to a life of lies.
To speak to the truth of sin, is to free a person from condemnation.
When one says they were born that way, so they are excused?
We all were born into sin of one kind or another, Jesus said one must deny their very self , to follow Him.

Another thing that needs to be considered, is if one gives a false witness or teaching, denying the truth for the world's aproval?
Not only will one have to give an account before God for their own sin, but also for those they mislead.

What we are called to in the world is not about the world's peace, love or aprroval, it is not about making something sound right.

It is all about overcoming the world in Jesus Christ is Lord come in the flesh!

Witnessing to a sin being wrong, wether it is homosexuality or any other sin that steals ones salvation?
Is all about the love of Jesus and witnessing to this love, wanting only for all to recieive the truth and salvation that is given in Jesus Christ is Lord come in the flesh.

To disagree with this is not telling me Im wrong, but to reject the very comandments of God, to reject all He asks of us.
Its not about hating the person who sins, it all about wanting that person to know the perfect love of Jesus, denying their self so to receive salvation in Jesus Christ is Lord come in the flesh.

If one debates this truth, go before God with this, and speak to this teaching, testing in Jesus's name as given.
Test all spirits!
For as scripture says, he who is accursed cannot say,
Jesus Christ is Lord come in the flesh.

The love spoken to that appoves homosexuality, is a false spirit.
Evil is working hard to decieve, dont let it blind any to the truth.

May every eye, every ear, every heart in Jesus, be opened to the truth in Jesus Christ is Lord come in the flesh!

In the love of Jesus.
God bless

It makes me sad that the people my age and the ones growing up behind me are all in the mindset that most Bible-believing Christians are close minded.. And that we need to open our minds to more possibilities.

I don't just go around openly bashing or confronting homosexuals at all. I'm not filled with hatred like everyone thinks Christians are. I just don't approve of their lifestyle and if they ask I'll say something. Same with drunks, psychics, prostitutes, etc.
We live in a 'post modern. ' age, where truth and experience are all relative. So, we just choose what we like, ignore what we do not. What people need to understand is that It's not about our opinions, it's simply Gods Word. It's not easy to be a Christian!! If we are not being critisised etc we must be doing something wrong OR not doing anything at all. We cannot be accepted by non believers, Christ is foolishness to those who do not believe. Homosexuality is a sin, one of many. It is the 'act' not the person. We need to love the sinner but not condone the sin. There are many sins! God is not just love, He calls for obedience, repeatedly. It is our choice if we act upon our 'feelings'. Or, we instead focus how God wants us to live. <><

I put my two cents in on a forum thread today (on a secular mom/baby/birth board) about how to handle the topic of homosexuality when your children start to ask questions.

I've been monitoring it all day and reading people's responses to the topic itself and to see what they say about my reply. As you might expect most replies were pro-gay, love is love no matter who it is, blah blah blah. Well, out of 130+ replies so far and at least 80 different people, about 5 of us said that we would stick up for our Biblical roots and teach our children that being gay is something God doesn't approve of...BUT to treat everyone the same regardless. Basically: love the person but not the sin.

So... getting to the topic's title... I do not want to be considered a "Christian" anymore because... of the 75ish other people who were pro-gay and "it's not a choice, just let everyone believe what they want, don't be a homophobe, etc etc" SOOOO many said "I'm a Christian BUT!.." "I'm a Christian BUT.." and most of those ladies went on to say that they only go to churches that teach love and equality to all. Or they are a Christian but they don't go to church or practice anything that they've been taught.

I'm rambling.. but I want a new "name" to go by. All of these extremelyyyyyyyy liberal "Christians" who say that basically they love God but ANYTHING and EVERYTHING goes because God is a god of love and nothing more.. give us all a bad name.

They won't stop calling themselves Christians because they honestly believe that it's okay to be a Christian and follow only the nice, fluffy, rainbowy, love parts of the Bible. So the God-loving, God-fearing folks who realize that all of the Bible is truth and don't pick and choose need something else to go by. (I know none of us are perfect... but come on! God is loving but also jealous and just. There is more to Christianity than God loves everyone... He sure does! But He also wants us to obey certain things so that we can experience every blessing He has in store for us & for us to fulfill His plan for our lives.)

I don't want to be known as a Christian anymore!
Greetings,

Actually, we were not originally called Christians but rather Followers of the Way. The term Christian was first applied to Christ followers in Antioch and get this, it was an insult. The word Christian was a term of scorn used by the pagan or non-believers of that day.

Like many insults Followers of the Way took the meaning of the word, "one like Christ" and used it in a positive manner and over time the use changed from negative to positive. Now I use the word Christian when I post and speak mostly because it is the excepted norm. When I refer to my faith though, I use Follower of the Way.

Personally, I think those that truly love and serve the Lord should drop the "Christian" name and go back to Acts and return to our historical roots in the faith. But I must add a rider to the return of our original designation that we also return to true, biblical, foundational doctrine as it is presented to us in God's Word.

We should never condone sin or try to make light of sin. I don't care is its false witness, adultery, stealing, blasphemy, homosexuality or any other sin. Sin is sin and God said no. We should also stand up for that which God created. Marriage is NOT a human invention but was created by God as a reflection of the fellowship shared in the Godhead. How will we ever be able to wrap out mind around the concept of 1 God but 3 persons if we can't honor marriage which is 1 man and 1 woman, 2 people but 1 flesh.

If standing for the Creator God and holding to His design makes me a homophobe then so be it. At least i am in Good company because God calls called the sexual union of 2 person of the same gender and abomination. Like the Lord I do not hate homosexuals, far from it. When ever I meet one their name goes on my prayer list and my zeal to live as God commands increases.

I have seen many walk away from the homosexual lifestyle so this "I was born this way" line is just that, a line. For what ever reason, and they vary greatly, though in the end it usually comes down to being hurt and badly, people choose to act out this abberation of life. Homosexuality is the epitome of selfishness. The life style brings no positives, no honor to the Lord, no next generation, no high moral standard, nothing. I know of some heterosexual that also qualify. but unlike the heterosexual, the homosexual is trying, if they do accept the gift of salvation, to force sexual perversive sin into the place to be shared by The Holy Spirit. Basically they attempt to force God to accept their sin by joining Him to their sin.

In the end all we can do is speak the truth, to do so in love and to pray for them as we live our faith and get labeled as haters. Ironically, the ones doing the hating are the very ones we are Followers of the Way, are trying to guide away from the wide road and onto the narrow path which leads to heaven.

In Christ,

Bishop SEH

Please, if you would be so kind, stop calling yourself a Christian. You drive people away from Christ with your face of homophobia. How do you expect to bring people to Christ when the second you find out they are born a certain way, you condemn them as living in sin (more than normal people) and basically say they're monsters for living the way they were born. Mormons could use you...
PLease, if yo would be so kind... Go jump in a lake....

I mostly liked Bishop's post...
except that "follower of the way" excuse... suggesting that outsiders made up the label as a derogatory term. Treating the name Christian like "gook, spic or nigger" is what haters do... just like anti-semitism where jews are refered to as... JEWS! Because the name is blasphemed by some... does not lessen the name AT ALL. I am betrothed to Christ, he is my husandman, I WANT his name. Sometimes I use... "Bond servant of Christ"... research bondservant in the OT.

Bible believing Christian does seem to be a better name. I know it's not even the label or whatever that matters.. But sheesh! I want to be able to say I am a _______ and have that be a basis to start a conversation or something. Because earlier on.. Saying you're a Christian actually meant something other than: Hypocritical, women-hating, gay-hating, shove my beliefs down your throat people. It meant something more to the tune of: caring, helpful, monogamous, joyful people who stood up for the morals and values that have been around for centuries and didn't let culture sway them. That's not all that accurate but you're get what I'm saying.

If I were to tell someone I am a: Bible believing Christian, Christ follower, Jesus follower, Biblical theologian or whatever and have that mean something positive and have whoever I said it to already know the basics of what that meant so I can go into detail and not have to start from the very beginning and stick up for myself as to why I'm not x, y, z.
Hey Christianrkchk89,

Do you know how we as believers came to inherit the name 'Christian'. It was a term that Jews and Romans used in the first few centuries to ridicule people because they were 'so much like Christ'. To to such unbelievers, to liken someone to Jesus Christ was the biggest insult possible however the christians themselves thought themselves even too unworthy to be called Christians.

Admittedly, there are many false converts claiming and defiling the name 'Christian' but that doesn't change it's true meaning and i can't think of any better way to define the call of a christian than 'to be like Christ'.

If we try to change our classification it will not be long before people start to claim and defile that term also.

Lets concentrate on changing our character to the extent that we win back the true meaning of 'christian' and people once again call us Christians because we remind them of Christ, weather by insult or not.

Definition of Christian-a person who has received Christian baptism or is a believer in Jesus Christ and his teachings.

  • I am not letting go of the name! I am a Christian! Stand firm and don't back down. God sees everything and judgement is coming to us all equally.

We all need to read up on ''the fear of the Lord''! He has not changed one bit from the wrath to the love. So we should all have enough fear to keep ourselves in check. But enough faith to know he will forgive TRUE repentance and will forgive those who love him.

The bible does tells us many professing Christians will not make it to heaven. Now that should put the fear of God in you!!!

After reading it put that way.. I totally agree! Thanks so much :)

That is true. Another reason labels stink. People always try to ruin them.

I still want to be called Christian because it means Christ-like, and that's what I strive to be everyday, but I understand what you mean everybody and their neighbor professes to be a christian but they are not christ-like. The bible says, "Only the pure in heart will see God." It also says that "man shall not lie down with man". Which plainly means homosexuality is a sin. Jesus loves and died on the cross for the lost person who sinned, but he hates sin because sin separates the children he created to have fellowship with. Just as adultery separated two people who were at one time one, sin separates us from God. Jesus died on the cross to not just forgive sin, but also to give us power over sin. The bible also say, that, "He (Jesus) was tempted in everyway yet without sin, and he is able to succour those that are tempte. He can secure children from sin; giving them power over it! What would you do for a man who gave his life for you? I'd give him my heart, loyalty and life; that's the least he deserves.

What does the term "Spiritual Theist" reveal about your relationship to Christ? A Christian should IMO bear the name of Christ with a measure of pride.
