Are pentagrams entirely evil? I've read before that they originated as a symbol to ward off evil and that early Christians believed it to symbolize the five wounds of Christ. It was stated that only the inverted pentagram is of evil origin. I know the pentagram has been used to represent many different things.

I have no purpose for asking this question aside from my curiosity.
 
I wouldn't personally view it as evil, first for the reason you mentioned. Also I was watching a documentary where someone was asked about what the idea of the upside down pentagon was, and he said that when it is right side up it's a symbol that points to God, and by flipping it upside down it point back here to ourselves. So there's definitely a clear history of a christian background.
 
The hexagram is actually more malicious if you go by occult traditions
 
I know a lot of wiccans use them in there craft.

I think at the end of the day a pentagram is just a star, no more and no less. your intetions for using it is what matters. if you like it a jewlery they id say go ahead and wear one but if your using it for occult reasons then id advise against it.

Again A pentagram is just a shape, no more evile than any other shape
 
Personally, I wouldn't have a pentagram in my house but a symbol only has as much power as is given to it.

Well see... I've thought I wouldn't personally use one for anything because of the fact it is so commonly associated with evil, but I haven't seen much of a problem with it.

Im not sure of its origins so i cant say it's inherantly evil or not. If you feel you must stay away from them then i think you should. better to be safe then sorry right?
 
I might start telling people I'm getting a tattoo of one just to stir up some trouble.

YOU SHOULD!!!!

get one of those fake tattoos (the kind you use water and peels off) and say it is real.

Observe peoples reactions and report to us you findings ;)

Yep, the Star of David is a Hexagram. Odd I know. I've researched it a lot and still can't pinpoint the moment in time it began to be used as a symbol for Jewish people. It's used for black magic in witchcraft. It's why there is the term "Hex" is used. Like, "That witch put a Hex on him".

The symbol of the pentagram is to them as the symbol of the cross is to us.

It has great meaning to those who take heart in what it represents, even if it means nothing to the one wearing it.
 
Star shapes themselves are not the symbols. The Star of David is not used in occult, its the same symbol with a circle around it. In occult philosophy a circle represents eternity, or never ending. Same with a pentagram.
The point up pentagram is mostly commonly used among 'white' witchcraft, such as wiccans. The point down is more commonly used in darker occult, such as satanism. The point down is often imposed with a Baphomet, or goats head. Taken from the bible when God will 'separate the sheep (Christians) from the goats (non-Christians). Baphomet is also a pagan deity.
The bible says to avoid all appearances of evil, so i'm afraid from a biblical standpoint how funny it would be to tell people you are getting one tatted, or to wear one yourself is pretty much putting in peoples minds that you are a practicing occultist, or at the very least anti-God.

It's actually more commonly used without a circle around it in occult practices.
 
Are symbols powerful or do they only have the power we give them.

What do you suppose is happening in the spiritual realm in reaction to what we do physically? Some people believe there is a spiritual demension to what we do in the worldly demension.
 
Pentagram ~ A five pointed star, encased by an outer circle. Adopted by the first pagan practioners. Wiccans(modern day witches) and Neopagans and is often associated with Satanists as well.Pentagrams were used as an important religious symbol by the Babylonians. A reversed pentagram, with two points projecting upwards, is a symbol of evil and attracts sinister forces because it overturns the proper order of things.
As you can see, most of its history is negative..for that reason alone, I would avoid it.
