I was thinking about a comment made in another thread. My life is very different from most people's. I'm probably very different too, but then...I thought we all were.

My life has been a dangerous one. While I'm fully prepared to deal with danger, I don't really see myself as a dangerous person. But I can see how I could look that way to other people. :) I think that's probably why people in my line of work tend to "stick with their own kind". From what I've seen, I don't know that works out better, but I honestly consider it from time to time.

My late husband was not a cop, but he was military and he knew me before I became a cop, so maybe that's why it was different. My lifestyle, the hours I put in and some of the things I have to do to protect myself and my loved ones can be difficult for some folks to understand. I realize that. Still...surely there are people out there who can handle it.

How about you? Is there something about you that makes you feel different? Something that gets in the way of dating?

I think women are intimidated by me. Yeah, that's it. Intimidated. They just said 'grossed out' by accident.

But seriously! I think being a devout Christian does place limits on a lot of areas of my life, dating included, but nothing that 'gets in the way' of dating or anything else. I always think of the "DANGER: BRIDGE OUT" signs, and someone saying, "Ah, someone just doesn't want me to go there because I'll have fun." (The guy I imagine has greasy spiky hair, but that's of little consequence. Just another thing that makes me different...)

Being married gets in the way of my dating a lot.

Away with thee from the singles forum!! :D

Celebrate it right !? Recently i hiked a wilderness trail along the Pacific. Upon my return,
(i hiked alone) a friend used one descriptive word "eccentric". I've thought about it since, trying not to let it rob my peace. I never thought once about doing stuff on my own. In fact, i'd often prefer company. I just dont let lack of company prevent me from pursuing joy.

I never once thought eccentric. Maybe different, but surely that cant be a bad thing. :)

Hmm... i think i've answered this in various threads lately. I won't regurgitate my responses.

I'm different for a lot of reasons, and there are people who I know couldn't handle my past. And that's okay.

It's been my experience that people don't like how honest I can be. Someone told me once that my insights about people are like a telescope. That I can zero in on the truth of what someone is saying and doing, and because of this people don't like what they're told.

I don't know.

What I know for sure is whomever I end up with will also have to be very unique. He'll have to be accepting of who I was, who I am now, and who I will end up being.

Ugly is being different by posting that he is boycotting the thread about being different. Way to stick it to 'the man', man *hippy voice*

Many things, I suppose...but for lack of better turn-a-phrase, we'll just say both 'it's' and 'I'm' complicated.

To be honest, I've had my share of relationships, but none of them lasting. There are many reasons why, but mostly, I haven't found that mash up of her will, my will, God's will. To me, all three are necessary.

I would say I am different than a lot of women as well. I have always been a tomboy, whether it is playing video games, going camping, or helping my dad change oil. As many times as I thought a guy would like things like that, it turns out most want a girly girl. Don't get me wrong. I can clean up as good as the best of them, but it is kind of annoying that a lot of guys see me as "another guy". Most of the guys I have dated said they liked it at first, but then tried to conform me. No thanks!

I will state up front that I despise The Ides of March and almost every overtly political movie on the market.

But.

There is one scene I can relate to when the main character tells his candidate that he is "married to the campaign."

I am a person who is almost trapped by his own passions sometimes. I exhaust myself by work and side (writing) projects that will likely go nowhere.

Why? Because I believe in something. Because I think there are things out there worth fighting for as long as I am in a position to do so.

I find myself in a Catch-22 situation. Most political women, while nice, are not my cup of tea and I am not theirs due to my drive to remain pure ethically, sexually, physically, etc. I'll have to date outside the industry. The trouble is, no one understands the industry and its demands more than an insider.

Thankfully, I still have a third of a semester and another whole semester of school to look forward to. Finding someone would be easier in my current environment, but the horizon beckons.

Furthermore, I just feel like I'm intrinsically different than most people. Not better. Not worse. Complex, I suppose. I want to share it all with someone too! The trouble is, I do not know if anyone will want to share it with me. I will not open up unless I see that as a distinct possibility.

That is all, hahaha.

I'm different, well sort of....

I'm frustrated by some things when it comes to being Different and Unique and stuff. Like some things are really sacred to me about things that I like. Like going to the beach at night and seeing the Bio-luminescence in the waves. I like being on top of a mountain covered in snow on a bright and clear day. I like the feeling of speed and control. The feeling I get when I'm skiing or riding a motorcycle or skydiving or racing around in a car. But there are heaps of people that like that stuff, even though it keeps me from Dating sometimes. Cause people have hang ups and baggage.

I used to get off work and sleep for a few hours, then I would drive as far away as I could, until I had to turn around to be back to work again. In 2 years I put 82,000 miles on my car. Sometimes people came with me, sometimes they didn't. I would listen to pretty much ALL music imaginable, sing at the top of my lungs, pick up hitchhikers, get speeding tickets, hit cats possums armadillos chickens racoons small turtles etc(not on purpose).

I mostly did it because I was lonely. I would go to Waffle House, Gas Station, Steak and Shake at 3am in BFE Florida/Georgia/South Carolina/Tennessee just to see a new face. Just to have a meaningful conversation and the possibility that I could connect with someone on a level that transcends job titles or rules or expectations. Then, I believed in the possibility of people's dreams and I was captivated by the hope that somewhere out there someone was doing the same thing, or felt the same way. I thought maybe someone else felt that pull to Explore the World and that need for Authentic Connection and the excitement of it all.

I suppose what makes me different is that all I've ever really wanted was to explore the world, know its people and share that experience with someone that I don't have to say goodbye to.

That is what makes me different. I don't have any huge urge to make babies or Buy Big screens. I just want to be free.

I think, like Ugly said..I'm sure I've mentioned why I feel I'm so different, but unlike him,who is vastly more wise & knows when to shut up I will state my reasons why again. Aside from my never wanting children (which is a huge turn off to about 90% of the christian women I've ever known) ,my looks, bluntness, musical tastes and humor seem to be deal breakers with most christian women. For the secular, dating has never been an issue...if I wanted a gf,I could get one. (I don't say this out of arrogance either) For some reason(s) other than what I've stated,I seem to repulse christian women. When it comes down to it,I'm not the ideal christian man they get weak in the knees for when they think of a Godly husband. I've learned to live with that & it's cool. I just went & married a non believer. That showed 'em! LOL Nah,all kidding aside...I'll be honest,I'd rather be a bit of an oddball & have people in my life that accept me for me & can deal with all my flaws than to have what I think is a close relationship with someone & have it be all fake. Rambling again here.

Oh yeah? How's this for sticking it to the man.... ?

I'm going to be different, by saying that i'm not different, because everyone says they're different, so if i say i'm not different i'm being different by saying i'm the same.

HA!

It's true, despite guy's complaints that girls are "girly", a lot of them really like that. Not that you have to change for that reason, God made guys many different ways. But I do think some girls try too hard to be "one of the guys", to their detriment.

OP is a cop... RUN AWAY RUN AWAY!

I myself I don't like being around people. ive been alone for so long I just rather be alone these days.
Plus im very simple. but I am also dirt dirt poor so I have to be.

You know. I feel fairly normal. I think I'm a normal guy, but I don't know. It's like, I'm just following some pretty girl down a sidewalk, and she keeps staring back at me with these really weird looks, like she thinks I'm going to do something, and I think "Please honey, I can look at the menu don't mean I gotsta order!" and then like windows, you know...windows. Curtains wide open for everyone to see in, and they're looking at me like I'm freak! It's like "Helloooo, curtains open homie you want me to peek or not make up your mind." *sigh* story of my life.
