Jesus did not talk about hell in the way you're talking about hell, that is, eternal torture. Sheol=meaning, the grave-- was translated into the word ''hell'. Hades, also translated into the word ''hell'' was the Greek world for the underworld. Sheol was translated into Hades in Greek, because that was their only word for the grave-- before it was again translated into the English word "hell". Tartarus, also translated into the English word "hell" means a deep abyss where the angels are chained until the final judgement. Tartarus is only used once when specifically referring to the angels chained in darkness. Gehenna, also translated into the word hell, is a garbage dump outside of Jerusalem where the bodies of animals and criminals were thrown and burned. The worm was said to never die there because there were always dead carcasses there. I can hardly imagine those worms were immortal, or that there was any place where immortal worms lived. The fires were said to never go out in Gehenna because they were always kept burning to keep down the smell.
Jesus talked about hell in the sense that He didn't want people to PERISH, but to have everlasting life. Again, he came to give us life. He said, "follow me and I will give you eternal life." In other words, you don't already have eternal life, you get that from following Me. The Bible does not say, "Whosoever believesin him shall not suffer eternal torment, it says "Whosoever believes in me shall not PERISHbut have eternal life."
For the one contemplating suicide here, Jesus came, suffered, and died on the cross so that you might LIVE with Him forever. Yes, He means for you to LIVE, not die. And since he's the only person who ever lived on this earth who deserves to get exactly what He wants, give Him what He died for-- your life lived forever with Him. The love He bears for you is beyond your comprehension.
