Those who are older and wiser tell us things we later wish we'd heeded. What were you told in younger days that you have found to be worth remembering?

I was told not to be in such a hurry to grow up,enjoy my time as a kid because life goes by so quick & once yer' an adult you'll miss those times when you were free w/out any responsibility.

the definition of insanity... Doing the same thing the same way expecting different results ..
you can't fix a problem on the same level of thinking in Wich it was created..
You can't fit a square peg into a round hole
Look at the problem not the person
Be the solution to a problem , not part of the problem
When you arrive at enough you'll know it
You can't fix stupid - grandpa statement
confuse an approaching frown with a smile
Enjoy something for the time you have it , don't cry
Over it when it breaks ..
Keep your hands always open it won't Hurt so much when something's taken out of it ..
get to know someone better you don't like or is different than you..
Listen to your enemies, they will tell you things your friends won't ..

echos of those statements are now applied to my life today .

Not every fight is worth fighting for. Know your battles. Sometimes the bravest and best thing you can do is to surrender. :)

No one told me anything hugely useful when I was a kid that I can remember right off the top of my head. I might remember something later though.

I UNhumbly admit that I couldn't absorb most of the well-intended messages that were repeated like a broken-record to me over and over because I was too used to hearing them the wrong way. It was only when I grew up and had a good long break from those overly conventional suggestions, and then re-learned them in a completely different way that I truly had my ah-ha moments.

One thing that stuck with me though, my childhood gymnastics teacher always told me to land a jump with bent knees to avoid back or leg injury. I was a climber so this was very useful. :p

"Don't drop out of high school just because you've got a month's worth of detention."

Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Me, not my mom.

I'd love to answer this Julianna, but there are still some things that are just too hard for me to admit.

I was told many things growing up, but because they were said to me by someone who was doing what I was told not to, I ignored her. But let's see...

Do your homework.

Trust me, I've done this before.

Your heart won't be broken forever.

He didn't leave because of you.

Sigh... there are a few...
One of the biggest was that I should never chase after someone or feel the need to earn the affection of someone. That when I met someone, she would be as drawn to me as I was to her. Listening to that one would have saved me a lot of grief and sorrow in the past.
Similar to the last was being told that I am not the savior of the world. I've learned how to help others but exercise better judgment. It took me years to get what they were trying to tell me and learn to maintain some distance and only help as much as is desired.
Mamma told me... when I was young... listen to me... my only son. j/k lol

In 1993 I felt in love with a girl living 120 km from Göttingen. Her parents forbid me to sleep in here house. So I only could visit her for a day. If I ever could see them again, I would say to them "Thank you for your wise advice!".

As I am a reborn Christian and a single man, I like friendships with girls, but there are rules i follow in this case.

  1. No woman in a love relationship to a man is allowed to enter my apartment alone. There are only few exceptions.
  2. No girl can sleep in my apartment except my mom.
  3. Friendships between a man and a woman are good, if both are capable. But one person must tell every friend of the opposite sex immediately when he or she has a new love relationship.

I think these rules are very good. One word of scripture seconds that, Prov 5 or Prov 23, 27:
for an adulterous woman is a deep pit, and a wayward wife is a narrow well.

"First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean."

Bye, bye....

"Chew with your mouth closed"

"Don't slurp your soup"

I seriously think some adults today haven't been told this as kids.... I'm thankful I was.
