And by "set up", I don't mean framed for a crime. ;)

Most of us have probably experienced the whole "Oh, you should meet ______! You'd be great together!" But, have any of you actually ever followed through with that?

When I was in South Dakota, a friend of mine wanted to set me up with one of his friends. Unfortuantely, we lived an hour away from each other and didn't get the chance to meet before I moved away. We did, however, add each other on Facebook and chatted for a bit. We still sometimes chat with each other on there and catch up. I'm actually pretty disappointed we didn't get to meet. I think we really would have hit it off.

One of the people in my church, his daughter and her family came to visit. She thinks I'd go well with her brother, and she got my number to give to him. I have met him once. It was for maybe 30 seconds. Both she and her husband said, "You're a real catch. You could probably do better than him." So...why are you trying to set me up with him then? Ha. He's a Christian, but he's not very strong in his faith right now; being kind of rebellious, from what his parents have inferred. Plus, he lives 24 hours away from me, in Wyoming. What's up with the people I'm being set up with living far away?

There's a guy I'm interested in here, where I live, right now (not that he knows, but we'll see :o), so being set up with the WY guy doesn't appeal to me, but I don't want to write him off, either.

And now I'm rambling. Anyway, have you ever been set up with someone? Were they close to you in location? How did it go? What's your opinion on that whole idea, of someone else setting you up?

I don't like being setup. I gave it a couple of tries in the past year and it just ended up being more annoying than anything else, so now I'm weary when someone wants to set me up. I guess it doesn't help that I am not really in the mindset for another relationship at this point in time. Too busy with work and school and the like.

And Rachel, you seem like a really awesome person and you should totally try and see if that guy you are interested in is also interested in you... you never know it could lead into something great. :)

The only time I was ever "set-up" with anyone was back in 10th grade..I was 15 or 16 yrs old & a friend of mine who was in my pottery class thought I was hilarious & that I'd be a perfect match for her friend who went to the catholic high school on the other side of town. I was told because I had long hair, that as well would be an added bonus.
We all met up one night at a park and stayed out till 3 am all talking etc...and finally my friend said "Are you gonna ask her out or what?" - "She likes you!"...so I did. lol We dated for 3 months, then her parents found out. They forbade her to see a "hairbag",and that was that. I was from the wrong side of the tracks. lol Oh,one other note worth mentioning..she was 6-2 long blonde/brown hair...me,I was 5-10. That was a strange feeling looking up to kiss a girl.
But no set-up's for me after that or while I've been a christian...I've lost all my mojo. LOL

YEs fell for it 3 times, But Never again, as I made a vow to be single. and I was stupid to even let someone set me up. I didn't even like it, But dumb as I was then. I let it happen. You live and learn as they say lol

Hm...not really. At least I can't remember. But I know that some guys were asking my phone number from my friends. And then they call or send sms...

Shortly before I met my husband, my mother tried to set me up with the cable guy.

I think she hated me.

Er...what happened was, she was getting internet installed, and she'd told her friend about it, who in turn told her that the guy who was coming to do it was "so gorgeous". So the morning he was supposed to be there, my mom tried to get me to fix my hair and makeup and "wear some color, for crying out loud!" (I was in a black & white phase...)

I did not fix my hair or my face. I rolled out of bed when I heard people stomping around upstairs, put my glasses on, shuffled through the house to the kitchen, and was grabbed by my mom and introduced to this guy.

In my pajamas.

And he was kinda beautiful.

And already married.

My mom used to work at a Christian university doing something that let her meet every single student that applied and was accepted t the school, so she had first dibs on every available male that walked though those doors. Every semester she would pick out a few and practically throw me at them to see which one would 'take'. The one she never thought would amount to anything really was the one that did! We dated on and off for about 3 years and we're still best friends to this dy. I honestly don't know what I'd do without him!

I have never been "set-up" nor has anyone even tried. I am thinking it might have something to do with
the fact that I am an out-going person and if I saw a man I was interested in I would just go for it.

That's odd...I've always seen you as a delicate wallflower...so shy & dainty. LOL:rolleyes:

I've never been set up. I've had people say, "oh, ________ would be perfect for you", etc. In the realm of guys, I'm kinda dense. By that I mean someone would have to say to me, "Aimee, I like you." Otherwise I assume they're not interested.

:o You found out my secret.

Alright so I had to be the strong woman or I would have fallen apart.
Some days I don't even know who I am anymore. (too much info, I know)

First of all (and I am sure many here on CC would agree with me on this) you are not just a "real" catch, you are a GREAT catch; a gentle, kind woman with a heart and fire for God! It is good to see that you are being patient and exercising discretion.

I was set up once and it actually worked out really well except for one MAJOR thing; she was NOT a believer. That was what broke us and she eventually left. We were together for 5 years and never fought or argued. We had disagreements, but they were always VERY minor and easily resolved. I think the person that said we should meet definitely saw some major similarities in us and had a bit of vision in how we would get along.
Would I ever consider being fixed up with someone again? Maybe. What I would NEVER consider again is being with an unbeliever.

I think some people have entertained the idea, but never gone through with it. A lot of it has to do with my personality; I'm generally a pretty agreeable guy, but if you set me off on something I'm passionate about, I can get a little...intense. (Ask Seatbelt. ^_^ ) If that becomes someone's first impression of me, it's usually not good. A good example is my roommate's wife's best friend. When she and I first met (not as a date or a set up, just as a general social gathering), she really did NOT like me at all and would have been fine never seeing me again. We'd met a couple times since, and she'd mellowed on me, and since the wedding last month, we're actually good friends now. Imagine if I left that kind of an impression on a blind date!

I probably wouldn't object too strenuously if someone tried to set me up, but most of my close friends won't try for that reason. And my friends at church can't remember how old I am, so they have no clue who with whom to set me up. (One woman in my church actually said, "How are you a music teacher? Aren't you only 19 or 20?" >_< )
