I was on my laptop last night in our living room researching an assignment and our broadband started acting up and going back to steam-age speeds. I was getting more and more annoyed and then I lost my work for the previous 20 minutes and without thinking said two very bad words. Not at all my style at home but that kind of language is so common at school I have picked it up without truly realising it. I wonder how bad a sin this is. Is it worse using such language in front of your elders and more especially your parents? They certainly think so! And what is the best way of trying to cure myself of this unwelcome habit.

The way I've stopped swearing (mostly...those words still sneak out of my mouth once in a while) is to stop them in their tracks whenever I think them. If they're not floating around in your head, you're less likely to say them.

[h=3]Ephesians 4:29[/h]New King James Version (NKJV)

[SUP]29 [/SUP]Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.

It's hard I cuss a lot. Rebuke it when you say the words. Become aware when you are saying the words. Replace the word with another word like I do with my kids. My son used to say d**it. I kept replacing it with "Oh tarter sauce" now its tarter sauce. lol. I hope I helped. Btw sons word wasnt learned from me came from papa. :)

when you get mad or annoy make it a habit to not say anything but just stop and pray for patience for a couple minutes and then try the task again.

curse words normally come out when you have negative emotions.

When you start to get annoyed...begin to be able to recognise your frustration rising, then you will be able to 'control' what you do, what you say. But, most importantly...don't beat your self up!! we are not perfect, you have been convicted of this, taken it seriously and have repented, God forgives and forgets this...so should you :) God Bless, <><

I'll try that technique! Her's hoping....

I know you are right but this is so not the person I want to be. I know I recoil when I hear other people use unbecoming or profane language.

I am going to pray about this this evening (I have plenty of time to do it as I'm grounded for the evening lol).

Instead of focusing on the problem, you might try focusing on the solution.
That means: rather than thinking about not swearing... just think about Godly things

Spend more time in your Bible.
It will help.
