There used to be no fence around it and when my kids were little they could climb up in that tree. It always reminds me of that story of Jesus- where he sees a fig tree and goes looking for figs. Finding none, he curses the tree- and it dies. Funny thing is-- you can't ever tell from a distance if it will have figs or not. It's an evergreen tree, so the only way to see if it has figs is to come up and look for yourself. Stranger yet-- in the story of Jesus, it wasn't the season for figs....
Now the next day, as they went out from Bethany, he was hungry. After noticing in the distance a fig tree with leaves, he went to see if he could find any fruit on it. When he came to it he found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. He said to it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard it.
