According to Paul in Romans 3 one is justified by believing in Jesus' propitiation for our sins. A cursory reading of what he's saying might lead one to believe that this is all that is necessary to be saved, but if we're to take Christ's words seriously one must also do the will of the Father...

Hey, ShyGuy, welcome to CC.

Yes, Paul seems to be making the point that sin can be overcome by walking in the spirit. He doesn't end what he's saying after he explains his struggle with sin.

Bear in mind, this is the same Paul who wrote, "But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway." Paul struggled with sin, as we all do, but he was not completely under it's control like someone might...

I think you're assigning too much to Paul's words here to characterize him as expressing "slavery to sin". A slave has no freedom of their own, to be a slave to something means you're at it's whim - being a slave to sin is not how scripture describes the believer in Christ. When someone believes...

No one who is begotten of God is a slave to Satan, and we shouldn't be slaves to sin either, depending on what you mean. Jesus came to free us from sin. That we still sin on occasion is a failing, but we can be forgiven and move on. The hallmark of a Christian life should be holiness, though...

Hebrews 10:26 is clear that willful sin results in there being no more sacrifice for sin, unless of course you read it differently. Paul wrote the unrighteous won't inherit the kingdom of God. Clearly there is some sort of way in which the Christian must live in order to be saved. If you're not...

"I find a law that when I desire to do good, evil is present with me." It sounds like he's talking about moments where his flesh gets the better of him, not sin where he's doing it willfully. There's nuance to what he's saying, he's not saying it's ok to sin in general, he's saying, quite...

I doubt he's describing a pattern of willful sin. He is probably describing one off sins. Willful sin is sinning with abandon, like making a habit of doing something sinful and then rationalizing to yourself how there's no issue with it. You can sin in a one off way where it's not willful, such...

Hey Lewis, welcome. :)

It seems to be a unique fruit: of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, also unique. There's no indication that it was a common fruit or the tree it came from was a common tree.

As for what Paul wrote, the struggle with sin is still real. Ever been asked for money and said no, and then had to repent and lend the money because Jesus says to give to those who ask? Yeah, you were unable to do the good you wanted (all time times you knew it was right to lend money) and...

There is no sacrifice for someone who is willfully sinning, the language is crystal clear. I think it's important to remember the parable of the Prodigal Son though. I think someone can sin willfully and repent from this and be forgiven. All that being said though, John writes that the believer...

Practically, no, because we have all sinned and deserve condemnation. We need Jesus' sacrifice for our sin. We're called to be perfect though by Christ and to live righteously. We can't slack in this calling as it is made clear in the NT that the unrighteous won't inherit the kingdom of God...

Ok, I'm willing to believe that salvation is attained solely by belief in Jesus (in his death to take the punishment for our sins, his burial, and resurrection) and then through sanctification we must follow Jesus' commands (the logic is a little iffy to me), but how is repenting not a work? It...
