Are you going to watch it anyway?
Personally I find demonic possesion movies way scarier then other horror movies cause it actually happens.
I don't know that it would be any more of an affront to God then watching something like...I dunno...Friends with Benefits or something though.

The answer is yes, I think God would not want you to watch it.

Well, i hadn't heard of it before, so i did a quick google of it, and before i even clicked a single link i had a bad feeling about it. Some spiritual based movies i'm ok with, but mostly 'possession' movies i avoid. And this one appears to be no different. I just picked up a very evil vibe about it.

No one ever does the 'exorcism' right in those movies...
I may just be venting of my own feelings, but I pretty much hate them.
Movies like those don't glorify God at all.
Not only this, but it could plant some bad seeds of fear, giving the devil power over you...

The movie appears to be excessively Hollywood influenced. From what I get from the previews, it has no substance; it's glorifying a terrifying truth.

I saw Paranormal Activity 3 at the theater several months ago, and I regret it. Not that I walked out of the theater watching my back. It's just that - despite it being less overdone than The Devil Inside appears to be - I felt convicted to not watch another movie similar to it afterward.

Since we are one this topic. I find the exorcisms in movies rather pathetic...it never happened like that int he bible. It is not difficult for a true christian to stomp out the enemy.

I like the story of Paul and Silas walking round and the little girl following telling everyone that they are followers of God.

Acts 16:16-24

16 Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a female slave who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling. 17 She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.” 18 She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so annoyed that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her.

It was not hard for Paul to cast this spirit out, in fact it was not until Paul became sufficiently annoyed that he even bothered to utilize the power of Christ.

Lol, not even going to lie, i am going to go see it tonight. I am a huge fan of horror movies. was raised and grew up on romero, and i remember seeing the original "the exorcism" movie when i was a wee young lad.

I really like seeing mankinds views on spiritual matters. My fave one so far is "the rite" that just came out with anthony hopkins. I think it in portrayed very nicely the inabilty and the lack of power man has , without the power bestowed to us through Christ.

What he said. Exorcism in Movies isn't a realistic representation of exorcism, it's just there to sell movies and scare you senseless. A documentary style movie or a movie showing a real depiction of an exorcism would be different. And again like Kyouken said, it will more than likely leave you scared and paranoid, which is not a nice thing and obviously not from God. Id stay away from it :)

It looks like another in the irritating line of 3rd person camera horror films. Really getting sick of these. Remember when horror didn't have camera shake? Ah those were the days...

As for the people arguing it's a bad thing to see because it pertains to something that actually could happen... a lot of bad things happen in movies that actually could happen. I say just use your best judgment. If you foresee the film possibly having a negative impact on you then don't watch it.

My thought-
I believe God wouldnt want us to watch that stuff...personally I can't. I remember when I was unsaved i could sit and watch movies like Hell Raiser and The Excorcist and Salem's lot and vampire movies...today I cant...the Spirit within does not permit me. We have to remember in Eph 2:2 Satan is called the prince of the power of the air...He attacks through movies, music, videos...airwaves...I believe you can open a door to demonic attack by watching this stuff..

Its not nonsense, exorcisms are very real and have happened through out history in a variety of cutures and religious backgrounds.

I do not believe it will hurt you spiritually, however it does have an effect on your dreams. Personally, I freak out on simple things like sounds and etc for a week or at least a few days after watching.

I am not going to watch it because it glorifies satan and carries fear with great potential of having nightmares or night terrors.

No one was saying exorcisms are nonsense... they're talking about Hollywoods misguided attempts at making movies about them that are so overblown and over the top .. that it's senseless. Exorcisms are real, movies portraying exorcisms do not reflect the truth of the situations.

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."-Philippians 4:8 (KJV)

I may seem more on the conservative side with this, but I think (at least for me) seeing that film would encourage thoughts that are quite contrary to what this verse says we should think on.
So I would say that you probably shouldn't, but it's your choice.

Agree!!!
But I have to say these movies don't scare me.

Isaiah 54:17
no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me," declares the LORD.

"If God is for us, who can be against us?"

Romans 8:35-39
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written, "For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered." 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
