I am sorry for the critisyzm you have received regarding the ads RoboOp. It appears some will complain about anything. I am happy this site accomodates everyone who wishes to chat here. Many who had never paid, or donate were led to the Lord in CC. I wish everyone could afford to subscribe but I understand that they can not. I was one of them once upon a time and pray I never am again.
Do what you need to do RoboOp. Those with a sincere heart will applaud you, stand with you, and pray for you, your family, and this chat site.

I cannot give money to the site without giving my bank card info to a company I know nothing about :/
I tried once, and they wanted all my details, including my address and bank card number. Sorry guys, I scare easily
(I am used to having to log in with my bank ID chip thingy and everything, not registering with full details at a foreign company )

Hi wwjd_kilden I just want to make a few things clear for all since some things in your post could be misleading for some.

1. All online donations are handled securely by PayPal -- we do not have access to anyone's finanicial info, nor do we want to. I don't know if you see PayPal as a "foreign company" -- it's totally global and their website is the most secure in the world -- it has to be. Really and truly, any lack of security would be on your end (your own computer), not PayPal's end. Notice that as soon as you click the Donate button on our site, you are officially off of our site and on PayPal's secure site -- so it's all going through them, not us. And I would bet that PayPal is more secure than any "local" company for you; not sure what you mean about foreign companies.

2. Though all transactions are handled by PayPal, you generally do not need to have a PayPal account. (All you need is a debit card or credit card. Though there are some exceptions to this rule with some countries.) The reason they ask for your info is because of credit card fraud -- fraud from users is truly the real risk, not fraud from PayPal and not fraud from us (we can't see anyone's financial info anyway).

3. If the most secure website in the world isn't secure enough for you, there are a number of other ways to donate: by mail, bank wire transfer, MoneyGram, Western Union, or in some cases a local treasurer for your country. If there's a will there's a way, simply contact me in the forum mail. :)

I have no money to donate. I have no money at all. If not for those that are able to give to this site those of us who cant give would not have the luxury of coming here. We should all be thankful for those who are able. I do worry that some having ads in their post and some not will cause division of some sort. I guess that is always a risk though. Im thankful that these ads area available so that CC can continue to be a blessing to all that come here.

personally, i think ads are a great way to go... i've seen them on bible gateway and really didn't think twice about it... when i go to yahoo or youtube (or most of the apps on my android) i expect to use their services for free, with ads... so i think if cc can make it as 'free with ads, turn off ads with subscription', i think that would be a great thing... and thanks robo, for all the scripting/maintenance, etc... :)

Again, I apologize for initially lashing out. It's just that this place is one of the few refuges from the world that I have and it was bad timing for them to pop up when it did. I'll accept my spanking and - hey look! An ad for spankmasters! (jk lol)

Like TinTin said, it's not necessarily the ads but their placement. Right smack dab in the middle of someone's plea for help is not the right place. It wouldn't be good to get ads for viagra either, but hopefully as you say that issue has been addressed.

And that by paying you can eliminate them (thank you so very much for that) is really the right answer. $1 a month is being very generous on your part. Kudos.

Perhaps a little heads-up might have helped prior to rolling it out. Or did I miss that?

I get where you're at and support the plan. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do and hopefully this will prompt a few 'deadbeats' to pony up. I exclude those who really can't afford it from that description.

And yes, thank you to all who volunteer here. As a volunteer for other organizations, I know how that goes. Lotsa work and little recognition. And people jumping down your throat when you throw a little change at them ;)

Again, sorry for that.

I think it's a good idea to have the ads.

I think RoboOp should continue investigating different monetizing options.
He probably needs a multi-layered approach of various revenue streams to pay for this site.

Some people can not afford the monthly payments so I guess ads are necessary now?
Hello A_Friend_In_Christ
I have heard people say that they don't want to give by using their credit card,if there is a way to convince them that giving over the internet+++credit card+++ is okay, then I think people would not have a problem.

I mean,i don't think they would have a problem giving a dollar at least.
IMO

Dear CC,

I'm sorry I waited so long to begin donating, and that it took ads showing up to prompt me to do it. I truly figured donating was to help in whatever charity CC was involved in, not the day to day running of the site (I'm a techno-idiot) and I just haven't had it. But now I understand. I can only do a small amount, but I set it up monthly so you'll get it continually. Wish it could be more. If I get the job I'm interviewing for tomorrow I will increase my monthly.

I get so much out of this site and I appreciate all the hard work that goes into keep it here. Thank you and God Bless everyone who does such a fine job.

So, I don't know. This won't let me rest. I came here to CC because I needed a place to step out of the world and put my mind on God. satan has done some strange things at times to keep me off of here, but having persevered thru I find those to be the times I most helped people here. Every prayer I've presented to this assembly has come true. I get to fellowship with others like spirited, and I even get to read a fair amount of scripture here. God lives among this gathering. Might be why you're being choked and strangled.

So I have a morning where I'm under attack and each dart leads to the next, bigger dart. And I come here trying to get my mind on God and pray for someone who'se life is circling the drain, and all I see is this big worldy eyeball glaring at me. Hey, why pray for these people when we can get you a better rate? It's of the world - I know that in this world you're forced to do it, but it's still - of the world. And maybe of those who run this world.(?)

I'm not saying don't do it, I'm just saying be prayerful, and discerning. This is the first step of a very slippery slope. Offering to kill it for a buck a month is a good counter. I am praying for you to be funded, and think you really need to be more proactive in your solicitations. Let people know how dismal the support is. Maybe that should be your pop up - a buck a month and we don't hand you over to Google ! :)
