They should have sent him to live the Obamas. Barry felt he was good enough to be released after all...

It happens. People become institutionalized and they don't know any other way of life
Exactly why they should remain in prison rather than being released, coddled and excused for their ongoing criminal habits.

I recall a scene in Shawshank when the man being spoken of opened his jacket, and showed his pet bird.
Yep...his pet bird was named Jake

You're a convicted felon fresh out of prison. This leaves you with limited options. I can see where it would be tempting to go where the fast money is

I have worked at mcdonalds with felons, and an asphault crew whwere everyone but me was a felon....
And I still hold my point of view, find me one place where God condones sending people to a tiny room for 1/4 of their life....
Every acoount in the bible is a physical punishment that is swift and or a repaying of property.

The prison industrial complex is a money making business.
It cost three times more to put a drug addict in jail then it does to send him to rehab. The prison industry is getting rich from this but it cost us taxpayers billions

Don't forget death. Levi 20 lists some offenses to be punishable by death.

What is the recovery percentile coming out of rehab? I have met people who have gone through that system dozens of times, and still end up loaded or in the morgue as a result of their addiction.

Am I hearing you right? Are you advocating we go back to the OT Law to find out how to handle things? As I recall, we are supposed to die if we sin.
Nope, I did not say anything of the sort. I simply pointed out what looked like the omission of another, when they said, Every acoount in the bible is a physical punishment that is swift and or a repaying of property.

Find me one place in the bible where it condemns it. There are various mentions of Christians in prison and never a single condemnation of prison.
The fact is it is never mentioned either way. So there isn't a scripture that supports, or condemns, the concept of prison. I'm not sure how you find that works in your favor. I'm curious what NT, non-cultural, support you have for physical punishment.

I think our jail system is broken...
A judge does not see or live the consequence that they give... For a judge giving 5 years is an arbitrary number... They have no clue how that effects people or what it causes to their mental state...
This combined with judges being allowed to own stakes in Jails, rehab centers, and many other forms of punishments greatly ruins what is to be punishment and makes it into retirement for the judge...
Where I live, all the judges own stake in our local jail, and one judge owns a Alcohol rehab group... Every "drunk" sent to his court room gets sentenced to his rehab which they have to pay him 300 a month + govt. subsidies....

This jail system does not work... I wish Christians had the guts to suggest the Godly method of punishment... Where if you steal, you now owe 3 times what you took... If you rape or kill, you are killed... And if you do other crimes you are beaten in front of the judge, so the judge gets to witness his verdict...
Not only would this keep people in the labor forces, but it would be a far better deterrent...

5 years in jail for raping a 5 year old... Or getting the electric chair...
10 years in jail for drugs... Or getting 10 hits....
1 year in jail for stealing from bank... Or owing 3 times you stole from the bank...
I'm not sure what state you live in but I'm pretty sure that sounds illegal. I have worked in the Criminal Justice System for 20 years and there is no perfect legal system. There is good and bad in everything. Good cops, bad cops. Good judges, bad judges. Judges have a range of punishment they can give but they are not the ones that decide that range. Most Judges that I have worked with know prison doesn't always help but don't have a choice but to sentence them there.
Not sure why you feel the need for such harsh punishment. I'm assuming you have been burned by someone but that's not biblical or at least the New Covenant we live under.

Yes.... THE Birdman was in Alcatraz..... this old guy just had a pet bird...
And for those uninformed about the birdman of alcatraz... the real story was nothing like the great classic movie.

He was an unrepentant pedophile and a murderer.
After being incarcerated, he got himself into the press, and got a bunch of bleeding heart liberals to take up his case.
There was a nationwide (possibly world wide) movement to release the "poor old bird scientist".

But the truth is, he never made any discoveries in ornithology as he claimed.
And the guards continued to report finding hand written stories in his cell about his fantasies of raping and murdering children.

He was just a despicable, monstrous, horrifying little demon of a man.
And he manipulated the media, and all the bleeding heart liberals with nothing but sheer lies and good acting.
And the whole world actually fell for it.

I'm not sure what the moral to my rant was.
Maybe it's just that some people are easily manipulated... and the manipulators know it, and just run over them.
And it still goes on.
Happens a lot in politics these days.
