I read the Apologetics Study Bible. I love it. It embraces scripture, not doctrine, and approaches doctrine with "some say this, and some say this, but scripture says this... and this.... and this... and this... so you make your decision." Then it breaks down so-called "contradictions" of scripture, gives historical background, and talks about culture and other religious issues we deal with today in reference to scripture. It's written by a BUNCH of people too, so you're not just getting one man's viewpoint or research.
