This one here is from the new Orthodox Church in Tirana, Albania. I wasn't baptized at this one but the priest that baptized me helped in the building of this church since he's an engineer.

our son and his beautiful wife were here for a visit a couple of weekends ago, and we were talking about Grand Central Terminal. bear with me; i hope to tie this in eventually, lol.

have you ever been there? it's gorgeous! i used to take the train down to NYC with the kids, but never left the station. just waited for them to have fun in the city. brought coffee and people watched, read a book, walked around enjoying myself.

so we were saying in times past, people used to think not only of function when they built a church, a house, or even a train terminal, but also of form. my husband was in the restoration business, and i've seen old houses with carvings around the fireplace, moldings, etc. that were such a pleasure to behold, and just restful to be around.

postmodern architecture seems only to care about function. i think we all lose with that. Penn Station used to be almost as pretty as Grand Central, and now it's been "updated" to steel and glass. sad!

Europe still has so many beautiful buildings that reflect this old-fashioned notion of considering what the eye sees. makes it worth the trip.

Yes, of course, I have been to grand central terminal in New York. It’s a beautiful place. It has the feeling of the Newport mansions.
Have you seen the Newport mansions by the way? There’s a lot of history and beautiful architecture there too just like the grand central terminal.
I used to live in Brooklyn around 1998 for a year and it was a wonderful place back then. Loved Coney Island and I also did the whole Coney Island amusement fairs too with the roller coaster and everything.
NYC seems like a bad dream now from all the lawlessness, violence and sheer insanity but I’m glad I was able to see all the good times in there.

yes, i no longer linger in the terminal. don't go to the city at all. we live in a pretty rural area, and on Sunday mornings i sit outdoors with my coffee where i can hear the bells in one of the churches in the little nearby town calling the people to worship. :)

i haven't been to Newport! thanks for the suggestion!

oh, goodness, forgot to mention not every train station had a Vanderbilt contributing to its form. big money surely helped.

and it’s very similar in architecture with the Grand Central Terminal.

there's a Vanderbilt Mansion in a nearby town, Hyde Park, NY! it looks very much the same. Hyde Park is known as the hometown of FDR, and there's the Roosevelt Mansion there as well.

if you ever visit, see FDR's place first. compared to the Vanderbilt, it's kind of a dump. :ROFL:
