:) BERRY TRUE SHIRLEY. OUR BODY IS A TEMPLE. THERE WAS A GIRL WHO GOT HER TONGUE PIERCED AND AN INFECTION WITH IT, THAT SPREAD TO HER BRAIN, AND LEFT HER WITH DAMAGE, I THINK SHE HAD TO HAVE SURGERY. THERE IS ALWAYS A RISK OF INFECTION. IN THE OLD TESTAMENT, GOD SAID THAT " THE AMALIKITES WERE HIS ENEMIES BECAUSE THEY WORE EARRINGS IN THEIR EARS.
THE MEN DID.

I do not believe piercings are bad..Man looks at the outside, but God judges the heart
1 Samuel 16:7

New International Version (NIV)

7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
I have myself some body modification..not much..piercings now. Ink yes. I would have probably gotten more at a younger age had my mother not stopped me. I am glad she did. But I mean, you can have someone who looks right, is clean cut, tattoo and piercing free and on the inside, they're corrupt, proud, sinfull..arrogant..unloving. And many the girl with the nose ring and purple hair and 3 tattoos actually is sweet, loving, doesn't judge others..a good listener..forgiving..longsuffering.
Appearances can deceive. I also believe in my honest opinion one can get a bit too legalistic regarding some scriptures. I feel if you are convicted about something then by all means, follow your convictions. I met a guy the other day with several forearm tattoos who i know has a relationship with God, is actually a former missionary to the middle east! That said, yeah, you gotta follow your convictions. But we should be like God..look at the heart, not the outside superficiality of someone.

But shouldnt temples be made beautiful, and if beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then it reasons that one should be allowed to pierce or tattoo themselves if they feel it is so appropriate. And let's be completely honest here...is little tommy's lip ring or suzie's nose ring going to make Jesus turn around and say "nope, you aren't getting in here with that?"

Hey! I'm 21 years old and I have my lip pierced, my nose is pierced, my ears area actually gauged and my hair is bright blue... and I'm looking into getting my first tattoo soon.. I honestly dont feel like its a sin, I've never felt convicted for it.. I feel like my tattoos and piercings are okay, I think some tattoos can be very glorifying to God! so it really depends on where your heart is.. I want non-believers to be able to relate to me, Christianity isn't all about rules! its a relationship with God and yea, you wanna obey God, and listen to his commandments because he's commandments are there to protect us. like a parent sets rules for there babies.. to keep them safe.. this might sound weird but I think its okay for some people and I think its not for others... it depends on who you are glorifying... God doesn't care about your piercings or tattoos, but he cares for your heart. Your body & piercings will pass away, but not your spirit. God does not judge us by our appearance, but by our hearts :)

actually it does make sense and while I don't like them, you did make a good point about unbelievers needing to relate. God will use it. Christians need to be in all walks of life and in places ready to engage all.

About Christians being in all places and needing to relate, My question is where do we draw the line? If the church changes so much that it has to conform to the standards of the world so that they can relate to Christians, then isn't there a risk of losing yourself or identity? How can one tell a christian apart from the next person? I know there are some things that Christians shouldn't just do but clearly what we think is right and wrong is already so different chances are we're vulnerable to losing ourselves to the things of this world.

Don't get me wrong, i have nothing against piercings, not too sure about tattoos though. . . Just wondering where do we draw the line

Be Blessed all

Adhis: I don'r see how one could say piercings are OK but tattoos are not, to me they represent the same:

1: Decoration
2: Pleasure (through pain)

a) they are both bad or b) they are both OK. One being OK and the other wrong seems impossible to me.

Right? :)

The bible does say not to mark our bodies, but in the context it is used, it has to do with cutting oneself to mourn the dead, so not sure if it is a general thing.

wwjd: Granted they're both decorations for the body. Still think as Christians with all our different denominations, we have different standards or what is right and wrong (acceptable or unacceptable) . And this is why we may not be able to agree on standards of wrong or right with regards to different worldly things

yes, but I dont see how one could think tattoos are wrong if one thinks piercings are ok? Do they not serve the same purpose?
Is it because tattoos are permanent? (I just ask because I am curious how you view it, I don't mind people doing either, it is their body)

I think when the Bible talks about our body being a temple, it means not to destroy yourself.
When someone gets a piercing, then intended result is a healed body part with a piece of jewelry in it, however, when someone shoots him/herself, the intended result is death. This goes for lust also since the sin is against our own bodies, which is a temple. That's why I don't think Jesus is against piercing.
Body piercing saved my life. 3 nails and a crown of thorns.

Body piercings aren’t only dumb, in my opinion, but don’t they leave permanent scars?
