Fen,

make sure that you use the oils of oregano and cedar also, just a few drops -
hubby and I can be sitting with friends out in the yard and they will be getting eaten-up
by whatever, and we both will mostly not be bothered, and this is with nothing on us -
we believe our diet has a lot to do with this...
also we barely feel stinging nettle or ant bites...last year I got stung
two different times, once by yellow-jackets and once by some kind of what appeared
to be hornets, the yj I handled ok, but the hornets were severely painful for hours -
the key is to keep your cool and RUN out of their territory...guess I got two different
kinds of inoculations...

I will try those for sure. Thank you! Bee stings are the pits. I'm allergic so I try to avoid them. I don't stop breathing thankfully, I just swell badly where I'm stung and feel icky for a couple days. I'm thankful it's not worse. When I was a kid I would walk outside barefoot pretty much all the time. I'd step on them a lot. I guess I was to dumb to think about actually stepping on them. I still do the barefoot thing a lot, it's just habit.

Another option....Thermacell <---this may allow you to camp again....I use this early season bow hunting.....It contains small pads of a high caliber bug repellent that gets heated by a small butane cartridge....when it warms up it provides about a 5 foot diameter circle that bugs will not enter...nothing on the body, no smell and you can watch the gnats, mosquitos etc. fly all around about 5 foot away and if they get too close the fall out of the sky like a Jap Zero at the Great Marianas Turkey Shoot in WW2......

google Thermacell Sportsman Guide or Bass Pro........really does work.......good for a location where you will sit.....
 I wish I knew about that thingy while I lived in Scotland.... man they have some annoying gnats

one of the things that we kids would do when were young, was to stop on
honey bees and let them sting us, as our 'bare-feet' were so callused and
it never bothered us...oy, what things we do as children...

brother and I would go a-hunting for wasps nests and see how brave each
of us were to find a way to run them off of their nests and then take their
nests, with the babies inside, and we thought that this was great 'fun' -
if only we knew, or were taught what we were really doing! it is sad, but
we have to learn through our faulty experiences as well as our success in
other ways of doing something good...

it's odd, how different family members react differently to different things -
if my mother was bitten by even a 'black ant', she would have to go to
the hospital and eventually began to carry an anti-venom with her at
all times...

It is funny, none of my siblings or my parents have an allergy to bee stings. The first time I got stung, my parents just assumed I'd be fine, then my foot swelled really bad. Unless they run those allergy tests on you, it's hard to say what you're allergic too, sometimes you're u find out the hard way.
