Let’s analyze this. We are to live within the Kingdom of God, and God shows us this Kingdom in scripture. Also, after Christ lived with us we are given the Holy Spirit to help us discern what is of the kingdom and what is not.

God wants us to worship Him, and not take on any of the ways of the pagans. We do that a lot in our modern church, saying that we change the pagan practice to God worship. God says no to that, just don’t do it. Is dancing from the pagans?

It doesn’t seem to be copied from pagan worship, because there are examples in the bible of dancing to express devotion to God and joy.

There are ways of dancing that pagans have taken over to express unbiblical sex and things that are not within the Kingdom. These have no place in our worship.

Paul explained that in worship service, we are not to disrupt but be quiet. He said there was a group of women in one church who were doing this, they were to stop. So dancing to disrupt is out.

From this analysis couldn’t we determine that dance of a group to worship God is good, but show off dancing to draw attention to self,or dancing from the pagans is not?

You know i have danced around my room in worship to the lord before-or if you would even call it dancing LOL now in church many people will believe it would be the wrong place and time to be dancing, like in the sermon or worship music. People will certainly judge you for it because we are human. But if we were to be dancing with the lord while the worship music or sermon goes on perhaps people would not understand but you and god would

When I, all of us believers, get to heaven we'll be singing and dancing to worship Him all over the place....Lord, please give me a little bot of coordination so I don't embarrass you too much...

I always laugh when I see the reaction to Elaine dancing on Seinfeld...Ha Ha

I simply do not dance due to health reasons of my own and others. I would simply die of embarrasment and others would die laughing...

I agree with you. My reference was mostly to dancing. The more "weird" things I witnessed were things like being slain in the spirit, uncontrollable laughter for no apparent reason, and running laps around the sanctuary.

There's a line between worship and causing a show that shouldn't be crossed, and I've attended plenty of services where emotions were so high people would get involved in a lot of dancing and getting crazy, just because it was in the moment.

What I was really referring to was people who genuinely worship by dancing. Not by all the high emotion, wild stuff that people easily get caught up in.
Sadly I have seen so many abuses by those of the 'gifts oriented' emphasis..and those who believe in revival..and being 'free' that I have chosen to run the other way as far as possible from such madness..it has also been a catalyst in the choice of christian emphasis that i have decided to focus on.

I don't know if the rules allow us to say our denomination. Let's just say my church is in the south and dancing is not supposedly permitted.

The church did a fantastic Christmas play with lots of dancing. The pastor even referred to it in his closing speech. It was very funny.

My opinion is if it's from Satan, you'll know. King David rebuked his wife--I think for making fun of his dancing for The Lord, and even Jesus danced at a wedding. So if it is of God, it's proper and a way to celebrate your love for Him.

Why wouldn't people be allowed to disclose their denomination (if they have one?)

Dance for God!!!If that is something you feel released to do.I am part of a Christian dance team,we do messianic dance, choreographed dances, and also some techniques that bring spontaneous worship dance, together in a pleasing way.My advice to anyone dancing in a church,is to keep moves appropriate, and to dress ultra conservitive.Ie...pants under skirt, high neck,no bra strap peeking out,no belly showing when lifting arms! It is important to not be a distraction,as dance is to honor God!...Just my thoughts!

High neck? That's going a bit far and would be impractical if you're dancing.

I apologize. You see, I go to school online, and one has to be very cautious of what they say in forums.

Wow, it's surprising to see fellow ex-Pentecostals/Charismatics responding. I have no problem with people dancing in the church service. Although I'd imagine you'll have a bit of trouble finding a place to dance if it's more than just hopping and spinning in place. ;)

I'm in the exact same boat you are dude. The reason I left my old church was because they forgot about their mission and ministry to be an outreach, and began to focus on spiritual gifts instead, more particularly the gift of healing which they believed in so heartily they began pushing everyone to pursue it. This was also the same church that told people they weren't worshiping properly if they weren't clapping and getting excited and jumping around.

Unfortunately many other churches in my area are to far on the opposite end, very bible focused and questioning and scrutinizing of anything spiritual related what so ever, almost kind of like they're looking down on anything relating to the spirit, but the Holy Spirit is just as much a part of the trinity as Jesus. The gifts of the spirit are greatly abused yes, but that doesn't mean that everything spiritually related needs to come under the microscope.

And any other church I've been to is just plain boring and seems to have no real direction, is kind of a sad state the church is in.

The word Hallelujah is an all entailingword for all the words that were used for praise of which are over twenty words for praise each one isdifferent some are accompanied by body movements waving with verbal singing somespinning some running etc. so hallelujah is spoken to communicate desire for all the ways of praise at one time which is notpossible so hallelujah was used to for the Highest praise that desired toexpress praise with every conceivable action movement and voice to God. OurHebrew brothers express their-self in many forms motions dance and song, whenthe Holy Spirit comes upon someone they are free to move and express their-selfbecause they cannot contain their experience with God, if one is offended whenthe genuine Holy Spirit is upon someone then block it out focus on Him if you arebothered then you need to take it to the Lord. What about if you do not believeit is the Holy Spirit upon that person that is the problem to despise someonethat has acquired an emotionally habit instead of the Holy Spirit, order goingto the brother or sister privately etc.. When some people are set free to Lovetheir Lord their emotions are involved are we not human and mature enough toknow this and sensitive to feel and know whether it is the Holy Spirit or not?If not chose Love and exercise control of your-self focus on the Lord or as others have said gowhere they do not allow their-self to express what they experience whether itwas their own emotions or the Holy Spirit. These are some of the encounters ihave had and reached for on how to respond.

Sadly the state of the church is in a bad state..some churches have found truth, but camp around a certain revelation or truth, and will not budge from the traditions one inch(now do not get me wrong,i like tradition). And many churches simply have no clue as to how to reach the lost, you get tattooe guy or gal with piercings and a metal band shirt coming into the place, they may feel very uncomfortable(should not be this way,but it sadly is) I have seen how some clean cut christians look down upon those who are in the gothic scene,or metal scene..etc, and do not grasp that anyone would like this kind of music,style..etc. Even some in the tradition of church I go to would have a hard time understanding this. I do not..but then again, I am younger.

I also do totally get why some do not church because the lack or order, love and community is a huge turnoff..and lack of vision..totally true.

Btw, Zao=bueno/good band.

Nothing wrong in dancing for the lord. People dance for the devil. How much more shall we dance for our God? Our God is awesome! Worthy to be praise let everything that has breath praise him.

The word of God says rejoice in lord, it means be happy always. Dancing can be a way to show your happiness. A testimony that lord has given you healing, you are walking, dancing, laughing.. Dancing is good. So dance whenever you can (not when your pastor is preaching) dance when you are praising God in worship. I always dance when i sing praising song in worship. Its fun!!

There is nothing in the New Testament that instructs believers who gather together consistently (ie go to church) to dance during said gathering. Dancing does not appear to be instructed as a NT Biblical thing to do when gathering.

Church/gathering together appears to have other purposes that do not include dancing.

That doesn't mean it's wrong, but it does indicate it's not expected to be done.
