Hmm.. I think that devil can put negative thoughts in our head :D

Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats? And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man. (Mark 7:19-23 KJV)

Negative thoughts can come to us by the devil, but we can choose what we think upon.

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." Philippians 4:8

I do indeed think he can, but like the person above me said, we have the power to think of other things.

I've sometimes managed to stop a potential trail of negative thought by saying "hey! I know what you're up to, get lost!".
Worship music or reading the bible can help too. Or simply thanking God for something :)

I'm trying to be positive and have a better relationship with with God but I feel the negative thoughts in my head are getting in the way. When I pray and ask God to remove these negative thoughts, they're still there. I thought God answers all prayers???? I think that why I think I'm confused

well, God is not a magic- man who always does things the way we expect or want.

Maybe He is telling YOU to stop thinking negatively. Trust me, it is something you have to actively do :)

He can, but if you're saved you do not have to follow them. Just tell him to go where he belongs.

Since it's impossible to stop thinking, we have to be careful with the things we hear and see, as these will all contribute to the things we think on. Fill your mind with things that are positive and full of life, as in scripture. Jesus says John 6:63 that his words are spirit and life! Meditate on his words then so you can be spiritually minded and have life and peace (Romans 8:6)=] It's important to guard your heart/mind and stay away from things that are evil that can cause corruption and negative thoughts. Like it says in 1 Corinthians 15:33, evil communications corrupt good manners. So again, be careful with what and who you see and hear and who or what you're around. It's a daily thing we have to do -- renew our minds with the things of God. God answers prayers that are aligned with his will (meaning he's not going to do something evil you pray for), but he told us to stay away from things that are evil. Resist the devil and he will leave (James 4:7) is what he said for us to do. When Jesus was tempted by the devil in Matthew 4, those were evil thoughts also. But Jesus responded back with the word of God that was in him. This is how we should be so we can respond the same way when things come against us. Plant God's word in you like a seed and it will surely grow in you over time and bring good fruit in your life. The closer you come to God and know him and his word, the further away those negative thoughts will impact and affect you.
